  1. Aye, cracking wee model and nicely done. Never tried anything other than Tamiya and Revell plastic kits but am keen to give one of those metal ones a go after seeing this
  2. You can probably tell I'm still new to this as I'm still reading the instructions in the kits..... "The 2009 F60 features a specifically formulated red which appears metallic when under strong lighting." Apparantly the red Ferrari uses moves with the times so there's probably loads of different variants for loads of different cars. I've just been painting them red up until now It says to use Tamiya TS-85 Bright Mica Red but I don't have any of that and the shop says the TS paints were discontinued (in the UK?) a few years ago so I made up the paint. My first time mixing paints Hadn't thought about the engine being out of scale but as I plan on sticking the body work on it won't be seen anyway. So long as I can get the exhasts poking out the right place I'll work for me. Am still trying to paint and build it all neatly even although it won't be seen.....as you do.....
  3. That'll be a couple of finishing touches to do tomorrow night now then Cracking job on this on Claire.....stands out on the shelf Gonny have to get you your own shelf so my ones get noticed
  4. OK, so it turned out there is quite a lot more to this one than I first thought! I eventually got the paints for the red on the outside sorted - the blurb says it's red that has a metallic sheen in strong light so I set about trying to recreate that by mixing some Tamiya red with titanium silver for the base coat (was a kind of pink with a hint of purple metalic red) and then spraying some well thinned red with a hint of clear over the top. It seems to have turned out pretty well...looks red but looks a bit metallic red in strong light. I'll need to try and get some decent pics to show it in brighter light but I'll worry about that when I've got more of it together. Lots of the bits I painted red needed painted black on the underside so I've just been doing that by brush rather than making a mess of the red with masking tape again. I did do some masking on the floorpan and that turned out fine so hopefully am getting over that problem. Anyway, some pics.... Most of the bits were just sitting in place for a test fit but one thing that has stood out to me on this build is just how compact the engine is. Seems rather small for such an impressive and important component but no doubt well suited to it's purpose. It was just the cockpit really that was done... Just putting the rear suspension together before fitting the engine on. Lots of tricky bits to come with painting, trying to get the rear wing together and then all the little fiddly bits of wings that get stuck on. And there's a stainless steel aerial I need to cut and get glue for.....and the tyres to paint with a stencil which I've never done before.... Rather enjoying this one
  5. Cheers Progress report: Still sanding and trying to get the paint right. Much of this one seems to be paint loads of bits red, paint loads of other bits black and paint a few bits silver then put it together. There's a couple of interesting bits like the steering wheel and engine that will hopefully take a bit more doing though.
  6. Thanks folks - it was a nice model to build and the kits seem pretty common in the shops. I might do a blue one like they raced against the plane on Top Gear so I get to build a plane too (although it's unlikely to get done in group build timescales so feel to nick the "idea" if you want ) I think the exterior was all Tamiya paints - Gloss black (X-1) and coated in clear (X-22) for the body, the wheels were (lightly thinned) semi-gloss black (X-18) over the chrome and fitted carefully to avoid scratching it off. I've still to find a way of getting the chrome off (tried coke and bleach but no joy) to do it properly. Thanks for the link......I spent ages on there finding tons of stuff I want The interior was mostly Revell aqua blacks. It looked pretty good.....probably should have photographed it Had been reading up on here about thinning paints and various other things like sanding and multiple coats. I think I need to get some polish aswell as those sanding sticks.....and the extra stickers for the F60 with the barcode bit as that's what I'm building now.
  7. I kept seeing this rather pricey kit in Wonderland but finally decided to give it a go. The parts are lovely so am looking forward to this one. Just trying to get the red paint mixed and fill a seam down the nose cone at the moment.
  8. Apologies for the lack of progress pics in this one..... I went together nicely apart from marking the body with tape while trying to get it to stick down Thanks for looking. Next Ferrari is already on the work bench
  9. Well I tried to get rid of the seam by doing some sanding and filling but don't quite manage it this time. Doesn't fit very well was putting it midly but it was worth the effort trying to smooth the join out for the learning experience. I didn't find any Klear (yet) but got some Tamiya gloss to try and get it shiny. Thanks guys I added the mesh in the vents and put the race exhaust on rather than the long exhaust and tail pipes. Presumably it makes more noise that way Andy
  10. Next Enzo I do is gonny be black like Jay Kay's. Doing all the broken glass could be tricky though Clicky Nice job on the California.....almost as shiny as a real one Looks better in daylight though
  11. I hear starting a F1 car is no easy task. Pumping all that hot oil round it to warm it up and stuff takes time. It seems only right and proper that you should take your time starting a model F1 car too.
  12. No but I am now after a quick google...ta I saw a mention of using Klear on the clear bits too - should I be using it on the windows before I do anything with them?
  13. Filler. What's that I did use some sandpaper on it before painting though....hopefully won't be too bad! I guessed I wouldn't be able to get the body over the chassis with the lower half of the front bit on so I'm expecting there to be a seam that probably shouldn't be there. I've probably been lucky with my previous kits fitting together nicely and not getting bitten by not planning ahead or test fitting stuff. Fingers crossed eh
