Storage in room temperature, like all the others. No biscuits consumed nearby, no Alcladdy bits I think the ones that have done it are some of the older ones, maybe as much as three years since purchase but it's hard to recall. I have to go up to the Med Centre now, I will take a photo when I get back, to try and show you what I mean. Jen.

Has anyone else had this? I was painting the bare metal sections of an F-15 yesterday and was rifling through my Alclads to find my trusty Jet Exhaust shade. WHen I found it and shook it up, I discovered that it had gone all bitty, the pigment wasn't mixing in and had a nasty gritty look to it. On searching through the rest of my Alclads I found that four others had done the same, is it a shelf life thing? Jen.

Sea King HC.4 Finally Finished

I did wonder if the rotor blades should be different, but I think my model is depicting an earlier variant that wouldn't had had the funky blades fitted. I'm not surprised the Lynx goes faster Haggis, it's a bit of a sports car in comparison really isn't it! Now wouldn't it be nice if there was an easily available, good quality 1/48 Lynx model out there Jen. -
I have one that I built as a kid. It lived at my grandads house for donkeys years, he served aboard K134 HMS Clover for most of the war. I brought it home for restoration the summer he died. I would dearly love to find some more information on HMS Clover, especially photos, so that I can rebuild the model to more accurately represent her. Jen.

World Motorsport Group Build Voting Time!

Are we going to have any more votes here please? If not I think we'll wrap this up Jen. -
Marching on with this, I now have the main construction essentially done. No real problems to report, I trimmed the wings a little to get smaller gaps. The intakes are a good example of how to do it right, Italeri and Airfix take note! I had a bit of rescribing to do on the wings which I did before I fitted them because a lot of the panel lines on this kit are raised. I basically rescribed the ones I knew would get damaged and left the rest alone. The undercarriage is one of the fiddliest things I've ever seen, which is why I fitted it all before paint, using plastic cement for strength. I seriously doubt that superglued painted joints would hold up. I will bang a coat of Mr Base White on there tomorrow to see how much more work I need to do on the seams. I'm not too sure on the underside colour either because the instructions say it is H316 (White) in one place and H57 (Grey) in another Does anyone know which it should be? Jen.

Sea King HC.4 Finally Finished

Again, thankyou to everyone for all the great responses to this model. I have had the pleasure today of handing the model over to it's new owner, an ex Sea King pilot who is now training to become an instructor at Cranwell. She was absolutely chuffed to bits with the model and also gave me chocolates As sad as I am to see it go, it was lovely to see her reaction and I am sure it will be cherished in it's new home. Yeah, and for heavens sake someone vote for me! Or no prizes! Jen. -
I was thinking more of the two main instigators of this GB, but it seems that they are beavering away in the background so all is well Jen.

Why is it that only me and Nev are building here then? Jen.

I can only imagine that the person who advised you of that was a Lifecolour salesman, since Tamiya acrylic is pretty much the best acrylic around for spraying with I can't find anything for cross referencing AS numbers to Lifecolour, do the instructions have the FS number on them at all? This is about the best paint crossreference chart going, and may be of some help. Jen.

Turner dude, that looks awesome. Put me down for one too please Jen. -
Bit more on this, I now have the fuselage together, filled and sanded. The fit was basically very sound, most of the problems I did have being down to me not watching where I was holding it when the glue was setting! The supermassivegreatbig fin is fitted too. It had a small gap along the bottom but that was easily sorted. The new cockpit tub was extended upwards at the back and then a parcel shelf made from plastic card was added. I also extended the coaming past the top of the dashboard and made a pretend HUD to sit on it. It's lower than I would have liked but that is necessary to allow it to clear the windscreen (I actually remembered to check!) You can also see the new stick in the top picture, it's robbed from an F-18 kit and extended to suit with a bit of plastic rod. The new seat which is much, much, much, much better than the original is just placed in the cockpit for effect right now I'll take a closer pic of the cockpit in the daylight tomorrow, the flash just over exposed everything Jen.

Tap water is fine for all of the colours, some of them will accept a little IPA too, some won't. The ones that will take it I thin with IPA. The first few coats will be very thin and rubbish looking, stick with it, spray light coats and blow them dry with the airbrush. Once you have a semi solid coat of paint it will happily take much heavier coats and will always dry to a lovely smooth matt finish. A very important point with using these paints is that they are unbelievably fragile. I always overcoat them with Klear (sprayed) as soon as they are dry enough. This helps to stop it rubbing off. HTH, Jen.

What they said, lovely job Steve. The smoke ring decals look very convincing and must be a load easier than spraying them! Jen. -

Blimey, I come back from watching Moto GP and all these nice comments are here Thanks everyone, thankyou very much Jen. -
I finally finished it! This kit has been hard work, I feel like I've been on it forever. I think I started in late May ish and have been working on it on and off since then. The kit I used is the Revell re boxing of the Hasegawa 1/48 kit in conjunction with the Airwaves conversion kit, both supplied second hand from Ed Grantham. The kit itself is very nice, apart from the white plastic, I hate working with white plastic! No major fit problems anywhere, the only slightly shifty bit was the canopy but I succesfully fitted it by first gluing one side, letting it dry and then squeezing it into place to glue the other side. Most of my problems and frustrations stemmed from the conversion set. Picture this, you pay £31.99 (!) for a resin conversion set. I don't know about you but I think that's pretty expensive. What do you get for the money then? A lot of small lumps of resin, a couple of bigger ones and a small etched fret, most of which is not covered in the small instruction drawing. I appealed for help here on Britmodeller and was directed to a good set of walkaround photos which covered most of my questions. It's annoying because it turns out that the conversion has pretty much everything you need in it, it just doesn't tell you where to put any of it Eventually I got some paint on things, I used Xtracolour RN Olive Green which looks spot on to me. Some pre shading was used but the Xtracolour is pretty dense stuff and mostly obliterated it. Decals are by Model Alliance, Modeldecal and Dswoofie who came up trumps making up Union flags and the RN flags for me. I put an initial matt coat on things and that's where another problem surfaced, I realised just how many aerials and sticky out bits needed to be fitted By this time my little box of resin chunks only contained a Jimpy and a couple of triangles Oh well, out with the plasticard and several evenings later I had a fairly complete set of aerials etc. At this point I made up the main rotors and spent quite a while cleaning flash off the resin tail rotor, which by the way comes all bent and warped. They were painted in several shades of black, nearly black, slightly less black and red Modeldecal serials were made up and added, along with a little weathering. Very little wash has been used but what was used was all MIG Productions dark enamel wash. After touching up all the aerials and tyres etc a final flat coat was added. I used Xtracolour XDFF as my Klear/Flat base mix was tipping the colour off too much, it does come out very flat but looks ok in the end. Weathering over the top of the flat coat consists of the generous exhaust staining and then the aerial wire and winch were added. Base is another Dswoofie special with a nice groove machined in to enable a glass case to be added at a later date (he is available for commissions guys ) I know that there are several areas where more detailing should be done, for example, in most of my photos there seems to be a slung load type hook with a load of cables underneath. Without better references and running short of patience I have carefully ignored such things and got to a point where I think it will do I am quite likely to do another one as this one is for a customer and will be leaving soon. It's a really impressive size and looks pretty cool all green and mucky. If I do do another though I think I might give the Flightpath conversion a go as I really wasn't impressed by the Airwaves one. Jen.

Hey Doc, you got any plans/intentions to scrub the plating detail down a bit? I know it was made of thick metal but that plating detail is HUGE!!!! Jen.
