Thank you, John. I had a feeling that it was a good luck symbol or such. A shame that it was hijacked by Mr Hitler and his cronies … Regards Roger

Many thanks, John. That is certainly a very interesting image of the TT installation on a Westland Wapiti. I wholeheartedly agree regarding the lack of definitive information on these early TT installations and the paucity of information in Don Evans "The Long Drag". There must be information out there somewhere; as they say in the classics "it is just a matter of finding it". The quest continues. As an aside, do we know what the significance is of the swastikas on the surfaces of the lower wings? I appreciate that they are not German related per se but would be interested to know what the symbols represent ... Thank you again for your response. RAL (aka Roger) Sydney, Australia

Thank you, Magpie 22. I'll email you separately shortly. RAL

I'm seeking information on the type and installation of TT equipment employed on RAF Westland Wapiti target towing aircraft. I'm planning on modelling a 1/48 RAAF Wapiti TT. Just as the RAAF adopted the RAF instructions for C&M in the interwar years, I'm assuming (yes, I know that one should never do that) that the RAAF utilised the same TT set-up as the RAF. Any and all assistance would be appreciated. RAF Sydney, Australia

Many thanks, Dave, Troy and Tony. Exactly what I needed re the camouflage scheme. As I model in 1/48 scale, I didn't think o go looking for 1/72 scale information. Cheers Roger

We know that the 100 Group Boeing B-17s were finished in the RAF standard bomber colours of Dark Earth, Dark Green and Night with red codes but what was the camouflage pattern for the upper surfaces? Did the pattern follow the standard RAF scheme for four engine aircraft e.g. Avro Lancaster or was a different scheme adopted for these aircraft? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom. I was aware of the Red Roo Beaufighter conversion. It's the same Type B Winch but the $$$$$ ...

Would any members know a source for the 1/48 Aeroclub ML Target Tug Winch (Product No V195)? Google searches with hits state no longer available or simply OOP. I'm aware that John Adams closed Aeroclub as a trading entity some years ago but I was hoping that there may be a retailer with stocks still remaining. Any leads would be appreciated.CheersRoger (Downunder in the Antipodes)

Thank you Scimitar. Navy Bird did indeed do an excellent job on his TT.4. And thank you, Steve, for the manual diagrams and the images of VX388 and her wing fold. The article, diagrams and images will be of tremendous assistance in my 1/48 build of VX388 at the Camden Museum of Aviation. RAL Downunder

I have the 1/48 Flightpath Fairey Firefly Mk4/5 which I intend to build as a Royal Australian Navy target tug. I have the decals to do the job but I would like to display the model with the wings folded. My aim is to modify the Airwaves wing fold set for the Firefly Mk 1 to suit the Mk4/5. To assist my build, would any members have clear diagrams of the wing fold of the Mk4/5? I've scoured the Net but without success. Any and all assistance would be appreciated. RAL Downunder

I'm with Harvs73, 1/48 Bristol/DAP Beaufort would be an absolute winner for Airfix. I live in hope.

No worries, John. I now have them courtesy of XVTonker and 71chally. Cheers. Roger

Many thanks to everyone who provided information on the Rushton Winch and Target. Such assistance is what makes Britmodeller such a great web site. Cheers Roger in Oz

Many thanks for those diagrams, John. If you can locate the dimensions of the winch, that would be the icing on the cake so to speak. I'd also appreciate an image of the cutaway if and when you can locate same for James. Cheers Roger

Many thanks, Troy. All sorted. Cheers Roger Hi Steve. PM sent. Cheers Roger

Many thanks, Steve, John, Chris and James for your responses. John and James. Those links you posted are most helpful. John. Are you able to post the drawings from the Air Publications? Chris. Your generous offer will be gratefully received. Dumb question, but as I'm less than familiar with the operation of this site, is there a Private Message function I can use to provide you with my postal address? Again, thank you everyone for your responses and advice. Cheers Roger (aka RAL in the Antipodes)

Does any manufacturer make a Rushton winch as used on the Canberra TT.18 in 1/48 and 1/72 scale? In case I have to scratch-build, does anyone have good close up images of the winch and dimensions of the winch and target? TIA. RAL Downunder

I'm seeking a copy of an article in the "FlyPast" October 1982 issue on the Vultee Vengeance. It was part of a series on Dive Bombers. My magazine copy has gone AWOL. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Please PM me if you are able to help me out. RAL

G'day Steve Have you had the opportunity to check EZ999 for her possible antennae layout. As I said originally, there's no rush given other tasks that you may be undertaking at the Museum. I'm still unable to find specific information on the antennae wires for the Vengeance that I suspect differed between radio fitments. BTW, I see that Dannielle is still as feisty as ever ... Cheers RAL

RAAF Spitfire Vc A58-141 and "Westland" cannon blister questions
RAL replied to Procopius's topic in Aircraft WWII
Ascoteer Just for the record, Magpie 22 is a highly respected Australian author and RAAF aviation historian. What he doesn't know about RAAF Spitfires and their pilots is not worth knowing. He is a gentleman and a scholar and is not in the business of insulting people but rather assisting modellers to enable them to build accurate representations of their RAAF models. As Brenden says "he is no random Internet person". RAL -
Thanks, Finn. And thank you, Steve. There's no rush so next time your at the museum is fine. Cheers Roger
-
Thanks, Mike. I'd checked those images on Aussie Modeller. As you say, other than Smith's book, Vengeance reference material is thin on the ground let alone details of radio antennae. RAL

Would someone have a diagram of the antenna wires of the Vultee Vengeance V-72 and V-88 models? The layout was probably the same depending upon the radio equipment installed - UHF or UHF and VHF. It's difficult to discern from images but I believe that one wire went from just below the top of the fin to the canopy aerial that also hadan offshoot to the insulator on the right side of the fuselage just behind the pilot and one wire went from the fin to the right wing and another to the left wing? Any assistance in helping me to clarify the layout would be appreciated. RAL
