  1. Got to be pleased with this one, the finish is just perfect in my view. Pete
  2. Great job Alistair. I do like the Navy scheme too. Pete
  3. Thanks all for taking the time to comment or like this build. It's not a kit without it's faults but most can easily be corrected. The only one that can't be hidden is the flattened canopy that Bruce mentions. I don't think that it detract from the end result though, so happy to ignore it. Better than a cracked one 😂 Pete.
  4. Just got this one across the line after a real battle at the end. I started it for the Corsair/Crusader group build but just run out of time due to a calamity (didn't say that at the time) on the finishing straight. I'd got everything on and ready for some finishing touches when I dropped the canopy on the floor. Roll the chair back to find it and 'CRACK' followed by some choice words. I'd gone too far to bin it so found a bargain one at Creative Models, who were having a good sale on some kits. Leaves me another A-7K sans canopy but I'll work that out down the line. I found the kit to be a pretty straightforward build but full of missing details or errors. To be fair I didn't make too much effort to correct them because this was supposed to be a fun build. I still found the time to add too many extras though: Aires - Undercarriage Bays (a lot of work to fit) Aires - Escapac 1G-2 Ejection Seats (one modified to 1G-4 pilots seat) Wolfpack - Engine Nozzle Set (perfect, easy fit) Quickboost - Position Lights Quickboost - Antennas and Sensors Reskit - Wheel Set Speed Hunter Graphics - USAF SLUFs Here she is though ready for the cabinet. As always, comments and critique welcomed. Pete
  5. Not usually a fan of the Rafale but this one makes me want to buy one. Really looks good 👍. Pete
  6. I'd given up hope on this one but an extra couple of weeks gives me hope. I've been trying to get all the fiddly last bits done before I could start painting which was basically the undercarriage bays: and the wingtip lights. These needed some very careful fettling to get the cut-outs good enough for them to fit well. Once glued in they then needed re-shaping too, which is a bit of a disappointment when they were supposed to made for the Hobbyboss kit. All masked up and ready for the spray barn: And then after priming and with the base colour on: A few other bits with paint on too: Pressing on still and hoping to get it done by the new date, fingers crossed anyway. Pete
  7. Thanks V-P, very happy to be the wiener 😄 of this group build. There's always some great builds in these get togethers and to take part is the thing that gives the most pleasure. To win is just icing on the cake but thanks to all who voted. Well done to Bjorn and Reini too, really did like both builds. Big thanks to Enzo as well, always puts a lot of effort into making the group builds run smoothly. Pete
  8. Great build and the riveting really adds so much to the finish. Pete
  9. Thanks all for taking time to comment or like this build, it's much appreciated. Pete
  10. That is a great build and choice of scheme Jon and, as always, great photography. Pete
  11. Great looking Beaufort, been trying hard to resist buying one and this doesn't help. Pete
  12. Finished this one a few weeks ago but was waiting for my birthday present, a new photo tent, to arrive before I got some pictures done. It's the Eduard boxing of the Hasegawa and it comes with a few nice extras. I also added the following: Quickboost Flaps Quickboost vertical Fin Quickboost Air Scoops Reskit Exhaust Nozzle All in all a pretty easy build, in spite of Eduard's instructions, and glad to finally have one of these in the cabinet. As always comments and critique welcome. Thanks for looking Pete
  13. A little bit more done on this one. The first job was to get the cockpit completed. I also spent a bit of time knocking up some oxygen hoses to add a bit of missing detail. Then the bit I always dread, which is cleaning up the moulding seam on the canopy. When it looks like this it's too late to back out. A few rounds of micromesh and a dip in AK Gauzy soon brings it back though. A bit of time out gluing it together came next. It really is a tight squeeze getting everything in the front end but eventually got it in. Wings together Followed by a session of cleaning up I then looked at the gun bay and realised that Hobbyboss haven't, that I could see, included the gun for this kit. It's quite an empty hole without anything in it so set about knocking something up. It was pretty fiddly and lots of scrap attempts before I got one that I was happy with. Not perfect but, as they say, close enough for government work. Once glued in though...lost forever 😅. Which brought us here Last job for this update was to glue the wings on, which are a pretty good fit to be fair. The clamp is just holding them in place whilst they set up, didn't need any more work than that. Times running out so better crack on. Pete
  14. OK, time to try and get this one running and attempt to make the finish line. I found an Aires Undercarriage Bay set for this one in my stash and foolishly thought that I'd start by fitting it. Now, I've had some difficult times with Aires sets but this one was an absolute dog of a thing to fit, particularly the front bay. I had to sand the top of the resin so thin that I daren't attempt to blow the dust off for fear of blowing the top away. Same for the bottom of the intake. I'm all for accuracy but not at the sacrifice of sucking the fun out of it. Even now it barely fits and I've had to trim some of the location tabs away to fudge it. It was also too wide to fit in the location groove in the kit halves, so they had to be widened too. However it's good to go now. Then got the cockpit together and modified the front resin seat to be an IG-4 and not the IG-2 that the resin seat is. This only involved making some new canopy breakers as the front seat has fixed ones rather than the pop up ones fitted to the rear. Lastly for now, got some colour on the bits that need to be done first. Back soon Pete
  15. Eduard kit with a few extras and a lot of fun. Pete
  16. Great looking Seafire and definitely inspires me to get on with mine. Pete
  17. A couple of good modelling sessions has seen this one over the line and ready for the gallery. One last picture here to show her ready for some better pictures later. Thoroughly enjoyed this one and thanks to all for getting a group build up and running. Pete
  18. Now this I like, looks so good in the silver and the ladies just finish it off perfectly. Great finish and photography too. Pete
  19. A few good nights at the bench has seen the decals added and a sealing coat went on this morning. Really am enjoying this build and may have to get some more 😁 Back soon Pete
  20. Back again with a milestone update. After a few hours of spraying, masking, spraying, masking...oh you get the drift, I've managed to get some colours on. And then three coats of AK Gauzy to give it some shine. Ready to start adding some markings now. Back soon Pete
  21. Great build Neil. This kit has had its share of negativity but I thought it one of the more enjoyable builds in my cabinets. Yours shows that something good can come out of this kit with some simple tlc. Pete
  22. A great build, an equally impressive finish and what's not to love about a Tomcat in flight. Pete
  23. Thanks all for commenting or liking this build, much appreciated. It's not one of Airfix's finest but I've built two now and enjoyed both of them. Pete
  24. Thanks Warwolf. I'm surprised as well but this really is a great kit and don't know what any other manufacturer could add, so not overly in need of one. Just need to get some more in the stash 😁 Cheers stoohoo. Airfix really did hit their peak around this era, I think, and this kit along with Seafire 46/47 still stand the test of time. Pete
  25. That's a lot of nice looking extras and coming together well. Pete
