Universal Carrier
Robert Stuart replied to Robert Stuart's topic in TLC - Transports, Loaders and Carriers
Some progress to report on the carrier; the lower hull assembly has started, including some of the driver's controls. The engine cover (name?) shows some developments too. This will be a very tight fit around the engine, tight enough that I'm debating whether to add the motor - I probably will, just enough will be visible. -
RAAF C-27J Spartan *Finished*

Sorry to hear the kit is being less than co-operative. Solving that prop issue would have been harder for me than the tailplane, but you managed that. -

A belated welcome to @DaveJL, and to @Wings unlevel Looks like we have 14 signed up so far. -
Excellent, all three themes! Looks like a good selection of vehicles. (OT: wonder why the Luftwaffe wanted an amphibious car?)

Loyd Carrier
Robert Stuart replied to Robert Stuart's topic in TLC - Transports, Loaders and Carriers
Away last weekend, I didn't want to risk the Loyd Carrier, so I took the luggage: The brass was, surprisingly, pleasant to work with; I recently invested in a Mini Hold and Fold tool and that makes a huge difference. -
Universal Carrier
Robert Stuart replied to Robert Stuart's topic in TLC - Transports, Loaders and Carriers
The carrier parts have been given a black base coat: I decided to get some AM parts, some ammo that is on its way, and some crew: The kit does have crew, but they are dressed for Italy, and I plan to make this a NW Europe model. The new parts Work has started on them. Three figures, though I suspect I'll only use two. -

Those both look eligible, so ... build either or both. As to threads; there are two models in one kit. It is your build, so, it is up to you whether you use one or two threads. Sorry Pete, that decision is back on you ... you have the go-ahead. -

I knew somebody who advised during the Sarawak campaign; one of the few guerilla wars where the guerillas clearly lost. -

Looks good Pete, saw your post in the gallery. Interesting to read about their use in Malaya and Indonesia. -
Loyd Carrier
Robert Stuart replied to Robert Stuart's topic in TLC - Transports, Loaders and Carriers
And a start. So far as I can tell, the Loyd carrier was a truck with tracks. The engine Most of this will be black, and hidden. For those watching my universal carrier build, both the Loyd and Universal carriers used a Ford 85hp engine. There are differences between the additional components on the two models, but the basic design is very similar. They clearly thought about airflow when designing this thing: the upper crew compartment and a start on the engine bay. I found some reference photos for this build: https://picryl.com/topics/irish+guards+during+world+war+ii These are the Irish Guards, taken at Aalst while they were headed for Eindhoven. -
Universal Carrier

Yes, I generally try to feel for the end of the sprue gate with my snips ... doesn't always work well. And, the carpet monster has had a nibble. Hope I can replace the part with plasticard. Progress, I've started on the brass: The engine - most of which will be black and hidden in its own compartment. And the lower hull These channels will support the exhaust. Hiding the exhaust under the hull left it vulnerable to crushing as the carrier ran over bumpy ground. -
Looks like 1960's Airfix instructions; maybe lacking the detail?

Looks like an interesting, if complex, project - just changing that radiator grill, and the exposed pipe-work would worry me. -
