He told this story about being picked for England:
Charlton had turned 29 when he made his England debut in a 2-2 draw with Scotland at Wembley in April 1965.
He was so surprised at his call-up he subsequently asked manager Sir Alf Ramsey why he had picked him. Charlton revealed Ramsey's deadpan response was: "I pick the best team for my pattern of play, Jack - I don't always pick the best players."
A modest man who will be missed.

As I recall, the pilot's ejection seat was generally the latest version in production, and was changed pretty regularly. Might I suggest you go to here , and ask Martin Baker directly?

I have used Berna decals and have had no problem with them. Just my observation.

We have a problem in this hobby as most modellers are either middle aged or older, and we need to encourage younger modellers into the hobby. To this end I would like to see at least one model build per article that is built to the instructions, brush painted, uses just readily available Humbrol/Revell/Tamiya glue, no aftermarket resin or decals and readily available paint like Humbrol ot Tamiya. I.e items that can be picked up from somewhere like Hobbycraft which, like it or not, is the only country wide chainnow selling kits. Anyone coming into the hobby will start with the basics, and will not be buying their first kit along with an airbrush, weathering kit, resin updates and all the other paraphernalia. Too many builds use paints glues or extras only available from (one of the few) well stocked model shops or mail order.
Just my views.

Years ago, when I worked for a lighting company, I had on occasions to accompany a photographer who would photograph any particularly good or prestegious lighting scheme that had been installed. As most of the installations were fluorescent, he would look at the tube colour (warm white, cool white and a host of others, including other light sources) then consult a chart and apply filters to give a true colour rendering. He gave me a photocopy of that chart (it was 40 years ago and has long since disappeared), but it really was the only way to get true colour rendering. I remember that every time somebody says they think a photograph of a model is not quite right or has a colour cast.

They're being sold on eBay for £59, and as they're coming from Japan
I'm waiting for the Eduard 'Weekend Edition' kit, which will hopefully be cheaper and have aftermarket items, like teriyake sauce.

My guess (and it is a guess based on the outline) is a Spitfire XIV.

I need to see if this is even something I can build to an acceptable level.
You should be able to build it. Just be aware that it is not a kit that is straightforward. I suggest you type "Airfix 1/72 Concorde Britmodeller" into your search engine of choice and it should bring up several builds of this kit which will be of help to you.

Can we get a Israeli A-4?
The A-4M kit could form the basis of an Israeli A-4N but you'll need a tailpipe extension for it. Plus the OA-4M has the bits to build an A-4M.

Rather than messing about with decal sheets, downoad RAF_PW_ATH font (look it up in a search engine - there are free downlaods), buy some clear decal sheet, a pot of Microscale Liquid Decal film (to seal the printed letters) and you can have literally any size serial numbers you want.
It's how I printed these, which were 28.5mm tall (try finding a sheet with letters that size):

Any modeller who wants to build decent kits of the Top Gun subjects will research what was portrayed in the film, source decent and appropriate kits, and source aftermarket decal
If it's like when the first movie was released, licencing agreements meant that no aftermarket decals were released. I expect the 'Paramount' (or whoever) lawyers will have their beady eyes on the aftermarket producers, along with those at Boeing and Northrop Grumman.

Hello Bruno
I suggest you take a look here . Kev 67 built a very nice VC10 from the old Airways vacform kit and I'm sure a lot of the modifications he did will be applicable to the Mach 2 kit.
Good luck

One small teeny criticism though - shouldn't it have black and yellow zig zag lightning flashes on it a la 111?
Ah, if only. Regrettably printing your own decals has certain limitations so you need markings that can be printed on white decal paper to get the depth of colour. 29 Squadron was one of the few squadrons that was practical to make the markings of.

WEll for those who have been following my sporadic efforts in Work In Progress, here is my 1/32 Phantom. This started as an F-4F and got converted. Apologies for any omissions.
WIP here .

And here it is finished. Roundels are Modeldecal, serials are home made using Word and RAF_PW_ATH font, stencils are from Modeldecal and scaled up and Squuadron markings are from Xtradecal, scaled up again.
More pictures in RFI here .

I have hunted extensively for an aftermarket 1/32 Phantom canopy and have been unable to find one. The only options would be either to check on eBay where some people break kits and sell them by the sprue, or to mould your own.

Well here's my guess ( and it's only a guess).
F-14A Tomcat - ancient Airfix F-14A
A-4 Skyhawk - newish Airfix A-4B
Mig 28 - elderly Airfix F-5E
F/A-18E - old Airfix F/A-18A (and I bet if somebody at Hornby Railways had suggested badging a GWR Castle as a GWR King you'd have heard the screams all over this island. But it's only an Airfix kit).
P-51 Mustang - newish Airfix P-51 Mustang
And who at Airfix cares if they match the ones seen on the big screen?

Dragging this topic back to the question asked, I have used Halfords Broom Yellow which gave a reasonable rebdition of Golden Yellow to my eyes.
Airfix 2021...

Whatever Airfix make, I'd like to see a better layout on the runners to allow for other versions of kits. For example, their 1/72 A-4 Skyhawk is a lovely kit but if they'd put two fuselage halves and two intakes on a single runner, they would only have had to replace this runner to be able to kit any single seat variant (except the A-4M series). And don't get me started about the lack of interchangability on their 1/72 Spitfire kits.
