  1. Tonight's update: It's together! But it wasn't easy, and there's a lot of seam work to do...it wouldn't go together on the nose just in front of the bomb bay, and as you can see, the turret is also in need of super-glue-aligning. THe wings have been dry-fitted, and just as well - the port wing seam sprang open. So resorted to super glue (normal airfix glue used first time). And to top it all off, the top turrent appears to have got glue in it, because it's now solid; just as well it was on straight! I took the opportunity to re-spray the bomb bay, in case you're wondering why the fuselage looks a bit sprayed. Bombs themselves are still being painted...like slow-cooking sausages
  2. I've already started mine (yesterday!) before I was even aware this was on! (Thanks for pointing it out Antony). Can I join? And do I need to get my WIP thread (here) moved to the GB one?
  3. FYI - that's an awesome job you've done there...I thought it was the 1:1 for a good few seconds, and only the it was the background, not a fault with the model!
  4. ooh I hadn't considered it. TBH - lemme go check it out. Can I just run with the WIP thread as is, and most to the GB at the end?
  5. Rattling on... Pit done. No great shakes - dash is not my finest effort, but it'll do. Far better than the decal anyway! Took a bit of a liberty with the radio shack, and I think I got the red/yellow/blue dials wrong (and smudged). Hey ho... Side walls done. The 100% black will dull down under some matt laquer. Bombs (all 16 + 1 of them!) started...it's a bit repetitive!
  6. Ok, after being scared witless by a 1:48 Ju52, I threw the Ju52 back, and pulled this out instead...I figure it'll go nice with my rapidly growing 1:72 collection of in-flight WWII bombers and escorts. Will be totally OOB, but will be inflight (again, as all my 1:72 seem to be for some reason), and bomb doors open, as if over target. Won't be heavily weathered, but would like to make a nice job of it...a better job than my yank B17, for purely patriotic reasons I know there's a lot of knowledge experts here, so will try to do the best I can with the standard kit - I'm not seeking perfection. And we're off! Green is a bit bluer than this in real life - as usual my WIP camera/light combination seems to blow colours to bits.
  7. Ok, this started off with the best of intentions...a straight copy of the "Where eagles dare"...in 1:72 Except there's a wee snag. Or two. - This is a 1:48... - This is a civilian edition...double Any tips of converting to a military edition would be great... But by far the biggest thing I need help with is....WHERE THE &^*% DO I STORE THIS THING??? Just look at the size of it...I'm normally a 1:32 guy, but even I'm stunned....and this is only 1:48! That's an iPad, a 1:32 tornado and a 1:72 mustang in the picture to give you an idea of the size I think I might just return it to the stash for now...I'm scared.
  8. Hi again all, Wee update - a wee problem with the paint! Managed to get a huge black finger print on the tailfin...so I'll need to sand and repaint the white in that area again...and I might redo some red too, as it's a bit weak, and I've seen some peelage on the nose too. grrr.... I've gone for the black canopy edition of the T2, simply because I think it looks nicer Note: the black line is actually straight - that's a bit of blue tac in the middle holding the canopy in place. I've also got to do the nose tip black, but all in good time...
  9. It should be ok, I've got a hanging wall for all my 1:32 stuff, and there' plenty room yet, even for one of these. What will be interesting is the B17 when that comes out...I really might struggle with finding a space for that!
  10. Ok, my pre-order is in for one of these babies, from the Sprue brothers stateside...sorry Hannants - you weren't offering the pre-order, so.... Going for the gunship edition. Consider this topic a place-holder and discussion thread until it arrives. I'll probably do it totally OOB for your benefits, so you can see what's involved.
  11. Very nice...and just the right amount of pointy boom sticks...ie lots of them!
  12. Thanks guys! Well, this one continues to fight...though it's not entirely the kits fault! I started spraying white primer this evening, and the nose sprung open! So fixed that, re-primed, and moved onto white tamiya paint (rattle), and this is where the problems began...Basically, it's so thin it barely covers or sticks to anything, so I had to run one coat, then another...except I had some running on the 2nd coat, and I've now noticed the nose needs some extra sanding - both to remove some imperfections, and to fix the paint running! So back to the drawing board tomorrow! Once on, the paint actually looks very good - nice and shiny too if left unmatted. Anyway, here we go - not much to look at - another long wait for the white to dry. I recon I'll need 3 coats for good coverage.
  13. Ok, I'm calling this done, primarily because I've managed to lose the sprue with both remaining breakables (the radio and the mirror). As I said - all a bit of fun, not really meant to be realistic. I only did it to provide an escort for my B17. The white paint held me up somewhat, so didn't make the 3 hours I had planned, but I'm calling this four hours instead. I ran into a snag in that my black lines are a bit wobbly, but I'm not looking for perfection. Not gonna RFI this either - I didn't do this to improve my skills, merely to build a fun little kit. Plus I've not got a proper photo booth or anything. Though I might roll it out when I get the booth for the B17 - I might even add a port-side escort too (with different markings of course), for the full effect. That'll look good on my roof! Enjoy. And on escort duty (note: prop has fallen off in the pic - now glued permanently on):
  14. 20! I thought I was bad, when I lined 9 up my thought project. Reminds me...while I'm in "1:72 mode", I could probably get started on this... Anyway, ood luck to you! That's a fair ol' squadron you'll have at the end. Have you got a montage, or diorama in mind for when it's all done?
  15. Probably a basking shark? That's what I see...
  16. I built the old 1:144 (barely even looked like a typhoon) - this looks much better... But how do you do the painting so well at such a small scale ????
  17. Not a bad as expected, but you cant asked for miracles from a 1987 kit. Wings and gear doors went together very well - fuselage less so - bit of sanding and filling required as mentioned. Intakes and exhausts also ok, and only the tiniest of sanding to smooth out the fuselage join. Biggest fault is the front bay doors - they're easily 1-2mm too short front and back, an the curvature is nowhere near correct. There is zero detail in the pit. Zero. Nada. Zip. A scratch builders heaven, but I like to have something in - my mustang in 1:72 was surpringly good for pit detail. Truth told - I like the looks of this wee kit too - something about the shape appeals, and it's a bit different from the usual stuff. I wish we had as much variety of stuff in 1:32 (my 'native' scale).
  18. Nah, not really - I was making to reference the main purpose ER5's are bought for. Though they are complete sheds to ride, it has to be said. I got one as a loaner when my real bike was in, and was mortified I never noticed how bad these things were when I was learning... Yay, we have a winner! Go to top of the class...
  19. Ah well then, you probably won't want to see this then: My < 3hr build appears to have ground to a halt - the white is taking forever to dry, and it was dead runny! Peeled off some tape to check for leakage, but looks ok for now. Still, should be ready for black strips and decals tomorrow night.
  20. Hi again all, My rampage into 1:72 continues, with this cheeky wee scamp...can you tell what it is? I almost can't, the kit is so old and detail-less...anyway, through no conscious decision this appears to be a flying model again. Why do I make all my 1:72 flying, and my normal 1:32's grounded? Bizzare. Clues to 1:1: - These are the US equivalent of a ER5 motorbike...or were, since these are now retired - The engines are so small you could probably take them as hand luggage on a normal plane, and custard skins need not fear for being removed from the underlying custard - No guns - Any pointy boom sticks are anything but pointy or boomy - Sturdy landing gear - brown trouser moments in *both* seats not uncommon Anyway, here we are after 1 HOUR! Ready for painting. Bit of a fighter this one, especially around the nose gear - the bay doors don't even come close to fitting - and the fuselage join at the rear. Putty and sanding ahoy.
  21. Ah, it's good to see it's not just me then! Got an interview to prepare for tonight, so Wednesday night's hour will involve doing some D-day stripes, the chin white and the decals. Did "Double" do D-day? Who cares, it's just a fun build...
  22. Hi all, This one turned a wee bit mental by accident...I decided my Flying Fortress needed a escort fighter, so I got this: I started (as in unpacked the box) it at 19:15 tonight, and at 21:30 (when I stopped for the evening) this was the status. No steps skipped, and even had to do a bit of filling and sanding. No real WIP pics, since I was "in the zone"! Here one of the pit, in case anyone thinks I skipped on it. In fact, given I barely work in 1:72 it's one of my best! Basically, everything done, bar the breakables and the decals (which I will brush down). I'm almost temped to do some d-day stripes to make sure I actually hit the 3 hours mark... It'll go in RFI once I get my photography organised...there's a even a queue forming!
  23. Ok, it's done. I've decided to miss out the bullets, and leave it as is - it's simply had a prop failure, and the featherer failed, blowing the engine. Or that's what I'm pretending...LMM never did in 1:1. it's all just a bit of fun. Will move to RFI, once I get a proper picture-taking environment setup. Meanwhile, here are the final pics. Annoyingly the underbelly one is glared out, or you'd see the oily slick I'm proud. Apart from that - enjoy:
  24. Hi Simon, Yep, that's the one, but Andy's already beaten you to it - thanks for the offer though! Euan Only from Flightpath I'm afraid!
  25. Impressive work - I doubt I could even get a 1:32 looking as sharp as this. It's only 1:72!
