  1. Hells ringing bells! Were Trumpeter listening at my door when I whined ..... uh ... asked for a main stream manufacturer to make a new 1/48 scale one? Lets see if it'll replace the Coopers Models and the Classic Airframes ones!???
  2. Hi Guys thanks for the compliments. Yes when I first highlighted the panels lines the contrast was very sharp but I found with a little diluted black sprayed directly onto the panel line it toned everything down and made the panel line pop out from the back ground. Overall I'm really pleased at how it came together.
  3. So after repairs i realised that I still hadn't painted the spinners so i went a head and painted them and the machine guns. Attached the horn balances to the ailerons, the underside aerial and the crew ladder. And Viola one finished Bf110! The build wasn't with out its issues but the issues encountered were of my own doing and not the kits. I think with a resin detail set this kit could well be a stunner. Enjoy the pics!
  4. Hi Ivan Thanks for the praise Ivan! I was just sorting out the finishing touches when the seat I was sitting on collapsed and I unceremoniously dumped the poor old Bf 110 on the ground where upon the undercarriage proceeded to exploded across the man caves (garage) floor. I've got it back together after spending a couple of hours tidying up the garage while I looked for the missing pieces, found them all but one very small piece which I'll easily scratch build. Just need to add the mgs in the nose and unmask the canopy and we're done! Pics to follow.
  5. Okay I've added a little extra colour to the kit working on the exhaust stains and the highlighting that was just a little too "light" toning everything down with a weak black wash and some brown for the exhaust just to bring out the previous wash and tone them down. So here are a couple of pics which say more than I can ever hope to write.
  6. Hey Chris thanks for the encouragement and welcome! I've got the Bf110 dull coated now and weathered it from there as I find weathering over gloss tends to lead to a patchy uneven finish. I do think however that the panel line weathering wasn't diluted enough and that it's just a few shades to light. I'll tone it down with a very thin black wash over the lines just to reduce the starkness of it all and mute the effect some. I've done a little detailing in the wheel well by the simple expedient of plunge forming some wheel arches a word of caution however use resin wheels as I used the kits and I got a nicely deformed wheel as well! However a little plastic card and some sanding later I got a weighted wheel to put on the kit! I'll also apply a little thin coat of dark brown over the exhaust staining on the wings just through the middle as it tended to be lighter at the very edges. I finish attaching the under cart doors and the various pitot tubes and balance horn as well. Then a very thin application of mud and I can unmask the canopy and we're done! The most disappointing thing about this build was I was going to use the Owl resin conversion to turn it into a 30mm canon armed Bf110C-6 but the exquisite conversion kit was actually for the Eduard kit so I've left it till I can actually get one of these coveted items. (Well at least by me!) This was the set I planned to use but have decided to leave for the Eduard kit. I've also got to paint the spinners white and weather them appropriately.
  7. So anyway some three hours later (it was a late night ... uh ... early morning!) I ended up with this! The fit was great very little needed filing or filling and it all pretty much fell together! I really do like the fit and ease of building of this kit. The only real issue I had was getting the incidence of the tail planes right. But I got it pretty much sorted by the simple expedient of attaching the wings and undercart then rigging up a simple jig with some paint jars and some scrap card. Et viola! Airframe pretty much together! From there it was onto attaching the canopy and masking it off. Would you believe four hours later I got this? Then it was on with the first coat of paint in this case it was NATO black, which was wayyyyyy to green! So I sprayed a lightish coat of tyre black and then it was much better. Well at least in my opinion! And then decals were applied and they were a disaster! Brittle and prone to shattering so it was out with the trusty decal film to hold it all together! Which worked reasonably well but the decals only with stood a certain amount of moving.
  8. Hi Guys I've just had it pointed out to me that I've only got two (yes only two) posts to my name so I thought it best that I actually participate in this community after all I've actually been a member since 2009! I'm usually ...uh ..on another website (or three) and thought you might like to see what I've been up too lately. We've all read the reviews of this kit how there is little in the way of detail in the front office and the wheel wells are just as devoid of detail. And that the fuselage is to narrow in cross section, fortunately I believe that as long as it looks like a Bf110 that's pretty much good enough for me. But despite all that it's a great kit with recessed panel lines a canopy that can be displayed open (as long as you're using a detail set so you can show off your handy work!) and the fit is excellent. It's a relatively simple kit with a modest parts count that builds quite quickly into a recognizable Bf110. I must admit to liking the kit greatly and I've got another couple to build and I've got detail sets to use with them so I'll post those later on. So here are the first of the pics of my build.
  9. Hi Guys I was wondering if anyone has a spare set of Paragon designs 1/32 scale Revell Mosquito detail set? (Now stop laughing!) I know that Neil has since gone in another direction and is no longer producing these most wanted sets. Has anyone got a set they no longer require ( Okay I said stop laughing!) and may be willing to part with? Or knows of where this holy grail of details sets might be lurking? LOL everyone wish me luck!
  10. All I can say is STUNNING! I've been looking for a build article on this old girl and your build article so far is a total epiphany! I'm dead certain my build will not be as detailed or inspired as your's but I hope to make a damn good fist of it! Many thanks for the inspiring information and detail you've given us!
