  1. As far as I was aware, the Revell kit was going to be a re-pop of the Frog kit...

Don't know much about the Frog kit, but that one resembles the Hasegawa one. The undercarriage parts definitely look like it and it also has the same number of parts, 47...

    Hi Karl,

That would make sense as Frog and Hasegawa had a mould sharing agreement in the late '60's early '70's and the Hasegawa Lightning is essentially the Frog kit, with a few updated parts.

I didn't think it was a new mould, and I also thought it didn't look like the Matchbox one.

  2. The legend is that the Army stores in Aden had no Light Stone paint, so in a ad hoc attempt at camouflage they mixed red oxide primer with white and got the pinkish hue that actually blended in well with the red dust terrain they were operating in.

Probably an urban myth but sounds feasible.

  3. The Italeri, Matchbox and Revell kits are all the same basic mould with mods to suit the specific boxings.

I can recommend the AFV Club individual track links, really make a difference to the appearance of the finished model.

I think I have a Matchbox one in the stash that includes UK decals.

    Let me know if interested.

    Cheers

  4. Yup, Northaptonshire.

I remember driving past the base last year and seeing the F-105 and F-100 and not knowing what the place was called.

I wonder why those aircraft are on the gate when neither were based there?

I believe that it was an administration base for USAFE back in the heyday.

  5. I realize it was an isolated case but how do you store a resin kit to ensure the parts don't deform/shrink?

I know where your coming from Matt, I built a Magna Models 1/72 Attacker a few years back, it was displayed on a shelf, out of direct sunlight and every couple of months I'd have to give the wings the hot water treatment to cure a severe case of "brewers droop" in the wings  .

I have to admit it put me right off resin as a medium for a complete aircraft, I do still buy resin conversion sets but I wont buy a complete kit now.

  6. Hi Tam and :welcome: I'm in the same boat as you, currently building a Mossie NF MkII OOB, the only trouble is belonging to this forum soon gets you in to the dark side of the force, already started on a Spit MkIX with dropped door, open canopy etc. etc., next up is a gulf Jag with Neils (Mr. Paragon Designs) add on goodies, you see how you are sucked in to this black hole, with no escape, your doomed laddie, dooooooooooomed. :suicide:

And before you know it you've got more kits stashed than you'll ever have time to build, you spend so much time looking at other people's models on wondersites like Britmodeller and you realise you haven't actually glued any plastic in months

Now why does that sound so familiar.

  7. Thats a new one to me :D notice I said the EF3 fit was the only time I've *personally* seen anything carried on the outboard pylons! Always someone waiting to prove me wrong though ;)

Am guessing since its a SAOEU jet that it was involved in missile trials (not sure which, ASRAAM or AMRAAM, probably the former though since the Hindenburgers would surely obscure the view of the fuselage stations?), and its a Skyshadow pod converted to hold high speed cameras to video the separation of the missile on launch?

I'll go along with that, definitely a SkyShadow pod converted as a camera pod, easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

  8. Its not 43 sqn on the box art ,its the co's bird, 111 Sqn.

Your right, I'm easily confused and the memory doesn't work properly this early on a Saturday morning.

Early Hasegawa F4J's had raised panel lines. its the one with it coming into land on the carrier.

I couldn't remember if the J had been released with both raised and recessed lines, and IIRC Hasegawa confused the issue further by using the same artwork on a limited re-release of the newer recessed line kit, but it was in one of the new style boxes with the white surround so it should be easy to tell apart.

  9. I have just got hold of Hasegawa's F4J and Revell's FGR2 Phantoms, these will go into my stash. I would also like to get hold of Hasegawa's FG1 Phantom. The F4J that I have is not the high grade edition but it does have the recessed panel lines. The Revell FGR2 is I believe the reboxed Hasegawa kit and also has recessed panel lines.

Could somebody tell me what the kit number or what the box art is for the FG1 with recessed panel lines as I don't want to end up having to do a rescribe job if I get hold of the wrong one.

    TIA

    Chris

    :bouncy:

All of the Hasegawa British Phantoms have recessed panel lines.

IIRC it is only the F-4B/N and F-4C/D boxings that were originally made as raised panel line kits.

The original RN marked FG.1 kit can be difficult to find and is usually pretty darned expensive, look for the RAF version of the FG.1, with the 43 Sqdn aircraft on the boxtop, and if you want RN markings both Aeromaster and Model Alliance have released sets.

  10. F3's do not, or will not carry BOZ pods.

F3's do however carry PHIMAT pods from time to time, and these are roughly BOZ pod size and shape.

TRD is not a regular fit, more of a special fit. I was again involved with TRD trials on the F3, but the majority of the results for this seem to have found their way to the Typhoon and the TRD fit on there.

    Flipflopman

    Hi Flipflopman,

Thanks for the info, maybe it was the trials of the TRD with the F.3 that I read about.

I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, but I'm sure there was pics of the F.3 with the outer wing pylons fitted.

    Cheers

  11. I was under the impression that a lot of BOZ-107 pods had been converted to hold a pair of TRD's? So now you generally see one BOZ-107 and one TRD pod on the outboards?

I'm sure I read that somewhere too Drewe, but I also seem to remember that F.3 Tornados were also going to start to carry the BOZ pod with the TRD, so maybe I'm getting confused.

  12. There was also talk a while back that Flightpath were looking at "doing" a 1/32nd scale conversion. I think that they dropped this when Rob Clement announced his conversion. It was a great shame that Rob disppaerared into th eether - not for the first time!!!!

I was on Rob's mailing list Bill, thankfully I didn't put any money down, I was reluctant too after hearing about the Aerodynamix saga, its a pity it went tits up as the pics he put up on LSP looked really promising.

BTW I had a communication awhile back from David Parkins concerning the Flightpath set, he told me they still hope to do it but its way down the line and not even on the backburner yet.

I have a Revell F2 (NOT F3) and it will need an awful lot of work to turn it into an F3!!! Probably better off cross kitting the front half of the F2 with the RoG GR1/IDS - and a rear fuselage plug to extend the length.

I have a similar project in mind Bill, even got some F.3 decals from Flightpath, will be some time before I get any where near this one though.

    Cheers

  13. Is there a difference between Ebay US and Ebay UK then selecting worldwide in your search?

    Hi Gary,

It is worth going to the various Ebay sites as they all seem to use diferent listing parameters, for instance Ebay.com doesn't use a scale search so if you do a worldwide search by scale on Ebay.co.uk you don't necessarily pick up everything.

I also look at other Ebay sites like Ebay.de (especially good for OOP Revell Germany kits), Ebay.fr and Ebay.nl too.

Try it you'll be surprised what you can find.

    Cheers
