If anyone's interested I've got a set of Maintrack resin intakes and the flat bomb bay door, intended for the Matchbox kit but might fit the Airfix kit. PM me in interested.

The tyre fitting shop is definitely worthwile, they even do them in premarked 5, 10, 20 gramme etc. sizes. I've also used conveniently sized bolts and screws.

Hi Mike, Finally found the rest of the 732's, they were in a box masquerading as DC-9's , although there are actually only 2 left, seems like Chris and Neil made off with the rest

I've got more than a few kits in the stash, so count me in, not sure what it will be, depends on whats not been sold to finance the wedding when the GB starts.

That is nice, them Germans do know how to knock out an anniversary scheme don't they.

BAe Harrier FRS Mk.1 XZ457 / 14
AntPhillips replied to dergrunepunkt's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Having built quite a few of these kits over the years I'll second that opinion. BTW a great build of a lovely kit, thanks for showing it Cheers Ant -
But isn't that how Japanese made products were viewed a few years back. Trumpeter, Hobby Boss etc. on the whole continue to improve little by little with each new kit, you do get the odd backward step, but they are generally improving (some of the armour kits being produced are a match for anyone). Part of the problem is in many instances they are trying to run before they can walk, they are taking on subjects that they know will appeal to the modeller, but as Jonathan says they need to increase the depth of their research, to be honest in todays world there are no shortage of images available top work from, so it should be better. Think of the very earliest Hasegawa kits, and compare them to their latest offering and just think what is to come, at least we do know that Trumpeter have taken modeller's feedback very seriously and made subsequent adjustments to moulds, remember the 1/32 Wildcat? Likewise Bronco have done the same, perhaps HobbyBoss could look at the tailplane and canopy issue and correct them, in future releases.

I concur, I have a part started 757 in the to finish pile, it has to be one of the most ill-fitting kits I've ever come across, I've also started a couple of their 733's and 734's and they're fine (just fill in the incorrectly positioned door outlines). I've started the last remaining DC-8 that you left me, but haven't got far with it and I've yet to start any of my MD-80's but they do look sweet in the box, Might be tempted to finish a few of these for the group build if I'm allowed to enter a part built kit.

They would be Royal Navy Wessex, the Royal Navy used the Wessex in many roles, Commando, SAR and Anti Submarine variants being just a few examples. The Commando Squadrons flew in a variety of camouflage schemes, the version depicted by Andy dates from the late 60's into the 70's, they later switched to the overall green scheme that is still used by the squadrons now operating the Sea King HC.4 The dark grey scheme (actually blue-grey) was more often used on the ASW and SAR aircraft, the SAR ones also had huge areas of Dayglo orange paint to make them highly visible. Lovely build BTW Andy, makes me want to finish off my part built one.

Oooh !!, I can't wait to see the Cambrian build.

Hi Chris, Nice job on the cut and shut, hadn't thought about backdating the DACO kit to a -200, are you going to use the BRAZ models engines? Can't wait to see some more. Ant

Hi Jennings, Ithink Heller were thinking that as in those days many of the frontline RAF fighter squadrons had their own trainer, with their Gallic logic they thought it would open up more marking options.

Hi Peter, I believe Brasil Decals (maybe called BD decals now) did a few sets but they were released before the A380 entered servic so may not be fully representative of the final schemes. I think I've got a sheet with Virgin Atlantic markings, but as they haven't entered service with Virgin yet don't know how close it will be. Revell did release an Emirates version with accurate markings, I have one in the stash if your interested. Happy modelling Ant

Looks nice, just might be a bit premature I bet they hope that Boeing don't have to change too much before it enters production.

In the past I've subscribed to many magazines, SAM from the very beginning, SAMI likewise from its first appearance when SAM temporarily disappeared, I've also subscribed to Military Modelling and FSM, plus I've bought other mags as and when, however I stopped subscribing to all of them a couple of years back, as others have said there was too much repetition. Now I go into WHSmith or wherever, browse the magazine, if one magazine has enough articles that interest me to justify the cover cost I buy it, otherwise it stays on the shelf, I do like a magazine that covers a broad spectrum, I used to build just aircraft, dabbled with armour, cars and ships, but these days its mostly armour but I'm still interested in other areas. I will say that on this principle it is mostly Military In Scale and Military Modelling that have been coming home with me, I haven't seen the new mag and I wish Spence all the best with the new venture Does anyone know just how many modelling titles we now have available?

Hi Graham, Welcome to Britmodeller . I've followed your articles on the Modern Canadian Vehicle site and in MIS, in fact, the article on the Grizzly and Cougar inspired me to try a conversion of an Italeri LAV, it's stalled at the moment but I hope to pick it up again soon, also hope to see a few more of your builds here on Britmodeller. Happy modelling Ant

Hi Neil, Great to see the kits built up, never expected to see all 3 together like this though, looking really good. Happy modelling Ant

Hi Neil, Cambrian used a very orange/red colour towards the end of their time as an independent airline, take a look at the photos posted >>>HERE<<< I suspect the decals you have are for the earlier scheme, with the blue tail and red cheatline, not sure if TwoSix or S&M have done the later scheme, I do have a set of JetSet decals for the Orange scheme if your interested. Happy modelling Ant

Hi Rich, Their website isn't the easiest to navigate the distributor list is on the gallery page They list their distributors as Hannants, The Aviation Hobby Shop (TAHS), Airline Hobby Supplies and Airliner-World.de, Ive ordered from the first 3 over the years, but never tried the German site. I've previously bought their stuff directly from them at ScaleModelWorld, they were ther a couple of years back, if you're going to Telford they may be there this year too. Happy modelling Ant

HMS Tenby Type 12 Frigate
AntPhillips replied to The Velociweiler's topic in Maritime Cold War to 1990
That brings back memories, over the years I can remember several RN frigates being tied up alongside the wharf in Briton Ferry awaiting the breakers torch. Now the wharf sits alongside the M4 motorway and you get a real good view as you drive by, but back then the motorway was unfinished and the view from the old A48 was restricted at best, unfortunately these days it tends to be small cargo ships only. Although the port is officialy Briton Ferry, locally the area is known as Giant's Graveyard and I've always wondered if it was because of the breakers yard. -
You can't even buy them through HLJ and the like now, I've still got a few colours put to one side, but have run out of a couple of critical colours, they are sorely missed, as Julien mentioned they were withdrawn for labelling issues and were supposed to be re-released at least a year or so back, makes me think that there was more to it than just a simple labelling issue, especially as they are now difficult to source even in Japan.

Beautiful job Neil, and those resin engines really do make a difference don't they.

Hi Mike, PM inbound, and I love that scheme. The old Airfix kits really do scrub up well with a bit of TLC. Happy modelling Ant

I like to use aerosols too, as I don't have a permanent modelling bench and it takes too long to set it all up just to do a spot of airbrushing, if I want to spray a particular scheme I quite often take a couple of Humbrol tinlets down to my local Halfords and just match them against the can top. Some of their stock paints can be used straight from the can, e.g. Fiat Capri Blue is a very good match for the British Airways World Scheme Blue, with an Appliance White upper fuselage, I've even just seen a build blog of an Op Telic Challenger 2 tank where the guy has used Ford Sahara Beige as a match for Brit Lt Stone, its glossy out of the can so no need to clear coat it before decalling and weathering, just need to flat coat it after.

As the pylon is just outboard of the intake area, if it was swept forward of the leading edge, I guess there would be a possibility (however small) of FOD damage to the engine during weapons release. The Revel 1/32 kit includes this pylon, and a small bomb carrier to go on it. HTH ant
