  1. Its 59 actually looks like 65 upside down. You can tell it's a Forrestal class as there is one elevator forward and two elevators aft of the island, this proved to have limitations when it came to aircraft handling during operations so all subsequent designs have two forward and one aft.
  2. Thats exactly what I did, I have a kit that I dig out every now and again and add a little more to, ticking them off the list to keep tabs on my progress, IIRC I've done most of the turret stuff, still got the hull stuff to do.
  3. Here is the link: Chieftain Tweaks List If you are a fan of the Chieftain, it's one of those posts that you need to print off and keep. Happy modelling Ant
  4. Hi Nick, I've bought a couple of items off them over the years, but be warned they can be very, very slow. I received one order a long time after I'd forgotten about it, they hadn't charged my CC initially, so I just assumed it was out of stock, then months later (and I mean like 6 months) a package turns up and the CC is charged. I've heard of similar stories elsewhere, but this was a few years back, I wouldn't not use them again, but I would maybe contact them first to check stock before ordering on-line. Hope this helps Ant
  5. Got both of these in my toolbox, they were originally given away with SAM many moons ago, have proved to be a very useful tool over the years.
  6. An absolutely stunning build as usual, just how big is your display cabinet :worthy:
  7. The annoying thing is Ivo at Braz, realises this, there is a specific comment on his website that he will not supply the engines, wings etc. as seperates, you either have to buy the full kit or go it alone. Personally I think it would be worth his while to make the wings and engines available at a reduced cost, he's likely to sell more that way.
  8. I'm up for this, the main build will be a Heller 1/72 L-749 Constellation, its the KLM boxing, but I'll be using S&M decals for G-ANNT (nice touch I thought), of BOAC. It's a kit I picked up quite a few years ago, pulled it out of the stash a couple of days ago, the only thing is the cockpit canopy transparency is missing, so I either need to get a replacement or have a go at scratchbuilding one. I tried contacting Heller a couple of days ago but the website contact function doesn't work anymore. Now will it be a spray NMF or shall I look at the Bare Metal Foil route... decisions, decisions
  9. Hi Tony, is that the Magnum PI kit I sold you, it looks bloody fantastic
  10. Taking on board some of the more recent posts above, particularly Dan's comment about sparse groups, would you need to differentiate between Cold War and Modern, after all a lot of stuff developed and produced in the Cold War period is still in common usage, maybe just a post WW2 group would do.
  11. Because the wing is substantially different, both in area, chord and sweepback angle, I'm not sure but I think the fuselage wing box is bulkier too, from the Airbus website: Variant A340-300 A340-600 Overall length 63.6 m. 75.3 m. Height 16.85 m. 17.3 m. Fuselage Ø 5.64 m. 5.64 m. Max. cabin width 5.28 m. 5.28 m. Cabin length 50.35 m. 60.98 m. Wingspan (geometric) 60.3 m. 63.45 m. Wing area (reference) 361.6 m2 439.4 m2 Wing sweep (25% chord) 30 degrees 31.1 degrees Wheelbase 25.60 m. 32.89 m. Wheel track 10.69 m. 10.69 m. Engines 4 x CFM56-5C4/P 4 x RR Trent 500 I seem to remember reading that you would need to split the wing spanwise and insert a triangular fillet in the region of the main spar to get the increased area, the wing chord is longer at the root, maybe Braz should have just done the engines, wings and wing box and left it to the modeller to use 2 kits to stretch the fuselage. I suppose it's stretching the limitations of resin casting to produce such big sections. Happy modelling Ant
  12. Great bit of cut and shutting so far, shame about those Braz parts, with regards to your idea, I would think that the plastic from the Revell kit would be a little too thick, but you might just try skinning it with thinner plastic card. Kev1n's idea about 2 kits could work using just the lower fuselage and wing box from the Braz kit, but then you're almost back to square one. Let us know how it works out. Ant
  13. You could probably combine the WW1 and inter war years into one, other than the Emhar range of tanks there is little available in kit form anyway for this era.
  14. Love that scheme, and a great build to boot.
  15. And thats exactly what I did too, and the green would sure stand out amongst the others on the shelf.
  16. Love those Qatar schemes, keep those pics coming. Ant
  17. I will add the Minicraft 737 and MD-80 to the nice easy kits for a first time build, they go together nicely and need very little filler. However under no circumstance should you get a Minicraft 757, I've recently picked up one I started a couple of years back, and it's coming along nicely now, but it has been a hell of a trip, even had to cut the tailfin off to get it square with everything else.
  18. If it's Hasegawa and is 1/144 then it will be the Revell plastic as they had a marketing agreement with Revell Monogram, I had the 1/48 scale Century Series and A-6 Intruder that were issued by Hasegawa under the same agreement.
  19. Ooh!! Turned out nice again. Another great build Neil, and goes to show you can make a nice model out of the old Airfix kit. BTW your LGW 1-11-500 kit is on the way. Ant
  20. You can find the Airfix kit in MPC boxings almost as often as the Airfix ones, don't forget to try that in the search, and I think the Revell kit's were also boxed by Lodela, someone may be able to confirm or correct that.
  21. Come on Chris, we're getting a little impatient here
  22. Ooooh, that has come out well !! I love to see photo's of the finished kits that previously sat in the garage, and that scheme is a particular favourite of mine. Nice one Neil. Ant
  23. I had similar thoughts awhile back, I cocked up a F.2A model and rather than binning it decided to have a play with some ideas, never got round to finishing it unfortunately but hre are some of my thoughts: Extend the forward fuselage by a foot or so just behind the cockpit, this will allow a similarly longer extension to the underfuselage slipper fuel tank, increasing range. The fuselage extension would also allow a 2 seater version with a tandem arrangement, reducing the pilots workload, let the WSO do the tech stuff. Definitely change the AAM fit, Sidewinders definitely, -9D's initially, then -9L's later, maybe an overwing mounting like the Jaguar too with a dual mounting like the SHar, with 4 Sidewinders over the wing you could then put 2 Sparrow/Skyflash on the fuselage weapons points., keep the gun but maybe just a single one possibly a 20 mm Vulcan instead of the 30 mm ADEN, this might make more space for fuel in the slipper tank. Just a couple of thoughts, hope they help, would be interested in hearing any other ideas.
  24. Thanks for those Jennings, well up to your usual standard, I have to admit the 787 has left me cold, but your artwork as usual is somewhat inspirational. Cheers & Happy Christmas to you and yours. Ant
