  1. The Minicraft 737 kits are notoriously soft on detail, so I'm not surprised there is no tail bumper, but it is easy to fabricate from plasticard, just use the -800 one as a template.

I seem to remember a thread along these lines back when the re-release of the 727 & 737 was announced, we even discussed the possibility of Airfix adding additional better moulded engines etc to the kits. I sincerely wish you luck with this Kev, but I suspect the costs would far outweigh any return Airfix might get.
  5. Tamiya Plastic Filler (the silver/grey one) is my filler of choice, I used to use Green & White stuff, but i find the Tamiya less grainy. Mr Surfacer 500 and 1000 are also great
  6. Judging from the pics on the net, you won't be far wrong with either nothing or the centreline tank, the picture below from Wikipedia appears to show the F-15 style centre tank. Hope this helps. Ant
  7. Loving this build, can't believe I've only just found this one. Great job with the engine, can't wait to see more.
  8. Excellent build as usual Madmonk, my next planned build is an MP4/4, not sure yet whether it will be a Prost or Senna car though. If it's any help, only Tamiya make the MP4/5B (the 1990 car) Fujimi do the MP4/5 (1989) or the MP4/6 (1991).

Brave man, the Airfix/Heller kit is a bit of a dog when it comes to parts fit, but it looks fine if you make your own adjustments along the way, I posted a WIP last year, and you mentioned then you had the kit. There are also a few differences between the 1000km race version and the Le Mans car, no headlights, different aero arrangement at the front end etc. If you need any pointers feel free to PM me, the detail in the kit is a little bit soft or completely missing in places, but if you go the curbside route, you can hide the vast empty spaces in the engine bay.   10. Ooh lovely, I could be up for this one, and as my baby daughter will be that much older, I might even have some time to do some modelling. I have a fair stock of Le Mans kits, not sure which I'll be doing yet, but a Kouros Mercedes C9 and maybe a Martini Porsche 936, 2 of my favourite schemes.

  12. With the exception of the original Ark Royal, all of the Ark Royal's have had an association with naval aircraft, that's what makes it special. And as for combat records how can you dismiss the combat history of the Ark Royal during WW2.

  14. I built a Magna Attacker a few years ago, that had warped parts too, they did straighten out in hot water, and I was able to finish the kit. Unfortunately, when left in a moderately warm room the wings had an annoying tendency to sag under gravity, safe to say I didn't bother with many other Magna kits.

  16. I suspect the marking option was chosen for it's historical significance than being a nice colour scheme, as '66' is along with 'Marine 1' arguably the most photographed and filmed Sea King there ever will be. Personally I like the very early overall Engine Grey scheme.

The original Hasegawa release was the SH-3H and it had the long outrigger sponsons housing the MAD bird and sonobouys It was then recently reissued with new parts to represent a FAA Westland Sea King, looks like Hasegawa have used the whole sprue again even though you only need the short sponson from the new sprue for the SH-3D.
  18. Consider this: 1. We are building 2 carriers designed by Thales (a French company) but built by a consortium of British shipyards 2. The carriers are designed to be future proof i.e. to be built with ski-jumps but catapults are retrofittable. 3. The SDSR suggests that one of the carriers could be built with a catapult capability from the outset. 4. The SDSR also proposes that one will be put on extended readiness (mothballed) or sold. 5. France has a requirement for an additional carrier to supplement "Charles de Gaulle" and also considered joining the CVF project a few years ago, but IIRC didn't on cost grounds. 6. France has only catapult compatible aircraft, the Rafale. Maybe it's just me being cynical but I really wouldn't be surprised to find in the next few years that we will announce the sale of the catapult equipped HMS Prince of Wales (at a knock down price of course) to France, who will operate the Rafale from it. Meanwhile the HMS Queen Elizabeth will continue as the worlds largest helicopter carrier as the JSF programme flounders, and the cost of converting her to be catapult equipped escalates dramatically, and she eventually retires prematurely to be sold to the Indian Navy as a Flanker carrier. There we go there's an answer, lets just approach the Russians and buy some really capable fighters, that can use a ski jump.
  19. The full colour 'west' logos at the top of the sheet are for the race car, and the remaining black markings are for the overall orange press launch /test car scheme. Instruction sheet >>>here<<<

If in doubt, why not get them direct from ScaleMotorsport >>>Here<<< I have the sheet, but actually damaged 1 off the full colour 'West' logos, removing it from the envelope for a fondle, the adhesive on the cellophane wrapper is bloody stronger than the adhesive on the decal sheet , luckily the markings for the Orange test car survived intact and I also have 1 of the Japanese GP kits that include the 'West' logos.

That is an understatement, over on the F1M.com (a Formula 1 modelling site) we don't even use their name, they are usually referred to in code "Blue Cow" or similar, mostly because of the licensing issues that have arisen from kits and decals of the F1 car, they seem to pick up and clamp down on virtually every release no matter how limited in numbers it is.

Harvard / Texan - South African AF / Armee De L'Air Sheet 72-009 - Falklands War, Sea Harrier, Lynx, Sea King Sheet 72-010 - William Tell '82 - Michigan ANG F-4D Phantom, F-15A Eagle Sheet 72-011 - H.P.
