New Ship Related Releases
AntPhillips replied to Chris Hewitt's topic in General Maritime modelling chat
Supposed to say pics, the joys of posting from a mobile with predictive text. I saw Cornwall from the Park & Ride bus today, now I know just where she is berthed I might see how close I can get for some photos before they strip her out. Ant -

It does look stunning, coincidentally I've just seen HMS Cornwall parked up in Swansea docks awaiting the breakers torches. Orange Hobby really are producing some excellent stuff, just need them to think about some modern RN in 1/350 scale now. Thanks for posting the books John & Chris both. Ant -

!There already is a wish list of 1/350 subjects here on Britmodeller: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234938365-airfix-1350-wish-list/page-4#entry1384675 The list was intended for Airfix but would apply equally well to any other manufacturers that may be interested, IIRC the Type 22 figured quite prominently. Glad to see it but wrong scale for me, the earlier rumour ( a couple of pages back) was it was 1/350 and that sort of fitted with the recent release of the Knox class frigates, hope they are planning to upscale it too :-D -
Vanguard completes the trio

I picked mine up from Creative Models eBay site, think it was 14.99 including P & P. I looked at buying it direct from China but it wasn't really any cheaper. -

Nice build, I recently picked up one of these, but have promised myself that I must finish my Trafalgar and Astute before I even open the bags ;-) Did you use many different shades of black ? Happy modelling Ant -
All you need now is a 1/144 LPD or LHA to go with it lol

Simply stunning build so far.

Impressive start. Is the Wildcat intended to equip both Army and FAA units?
-
I'll second that, the only thing they could have included to improve it is a folded blade option, it does take up a lot of space. Ant

I'd drop Peter an e-mail, I know he was talking about making the gun mounts and other bits and pieces available for those wanting to model early Counties, I'm sure he could also do the same with the ships boats. A delightful piece of modelling by the way, I look forward to every update. Happy modelling. Ant

ex Russian carrier finally handed over to India
AntPhillips replied to bootneck's topic in General Maritime modelling chat
But she does have a special place in the UK's history, perhaps, we should bring her back to the UK, rename her Hermes and moor her in Portsmouth or on the Thames maybe, as a UK equivalent to the Intrepid, a real life carrier exihibit for the FAA Museum. Oh I forgot, that can only happen in my dreams. Ant -
Love these Hobbyboss sub kits, I've just bought one of their Astute class and it's a perfect quick build project, this one looks to be a very similar style kit. Great review. Ant

Any recommendations for a Liberty class freighter kit?
AntPhillips replied to Decoman's topic in Maritime WWII
L'Arsenal also do a detail set for the Trumpeter 1/350 kit, I was lucky to pick up a Trumpy kit with the L'Arsenal set on eBay for about £40 recently, it will be built as the SS Samoa, one of my Dad's ships from his Merchant Navy days in WW2. -
It really is coming on and I echo your earlier comment, a bit of photo-etch really does bring out the detail and change the character of a kit, Happy modelling Ant

1/24 scale..... What more can Airfix offer ?

I'd second the Sea Fury suggestion. -
Waiting times - not the NHS!

Yes, much as I love their products, they really could do with a real time stock level indicator, I use PayPal when ordering and they will hold the funds for 30 days or so but if the order is not fulfilled it gets credited back into the account and I have to re-order. I ordered some items last week and I have received an e-mail acknowledgment and a message saying some items are out of stock, but it's pure guess work which ones are in stock and which are not. Nevertheless I love their stuff and will persevere. Ant -
Hi Dave, I have seen online a Russian website that has scanned copies of the drawings available for download. I do have the book, it is worth every penny IMHO but if you can't find one at a decent price, I might be able to photocopy the drawings. I have a long stalled project to convert the Airfix 1/600 kit into her final configuration with the 'Alaskan Highway' outboard of the island and most of her AA guns removed. I'd love to see a 1/350 kit of any one of the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers from that era, but Victorious would be my preferred candidate. Happy modelling. Ant

That's a fairly massive conversion, she was rebuilt from the hangar deck up, but if you want to give it a go, the best reference in my opinion is the Anatomy of the Ship series book on Victorious, lots of drawings of both the ship as a whole and detail drawings. Happy modelling Ant

The announce The announcement is set for 10:30 AM according to the Airfix website

Fabulous build Chris, I'm reckon this is the kit and WEM set that you picked up from me on eBay, it's lovely to see it built up rather than sitting in a box in the shed. And you've made a far better effort of it than i would have, great save after the paint accident too.

Hi Jake, I'm on a break from the F1 cars, I think my general disappointment with the state of F1 itself killed my enthusiasm for building the cars, and I'm currently on a bit of a ship building stint working on an Airfix HMS Illustrious. Take care Ant
