  1. all finished, just posted it here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...mp;#entry600774 Thanks for all the help over the past few months Dave
  2. Hi, Finally got this finished after three months of what was a really interesting and enjoyable build.Working in 1/144 scale wasnt quite as difficult as I first imagined, the most troublesome parts of the build were the wing antennas which were re-made about 5 times and getting the canopy the right proportions:
  3. repainted the plane, then painted on the roundels, tried to make them look faded: I then gave it a coat of Klear and a satin clear coat before applying a Mig grey filter, then medium wash, then pin washes with oils and finally added some more fading to the pannels with faded grey and green pigments: I remade some of the canopy parts, added the crew and did some paint chipping around the wingroots and leading edges of the wings,Its slowly comming together: scratch built some palm trees for the diorama and found a Preisser 1/160 elephant on ebay:
  4. great looking dio.very well composed and executed
  5. Wow that is really something.Looking forward to seeing your progress
  6. Hello again, before I take the plunge I just wanted to double check the camo colours.these are the closest tamiya colours I can find they look pretty close to me? Dark slate grey XF27: http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=34096 Extra dark sea Grey XF24: http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=36118 the underside would be XF21 thanks Dave
  7. cheers Graham, had a feeling I was going to have to paint it twice! thanks for your help Dave
  8. Hi Graham, I used tamiya xf 23 for the underside xf 54 and xf 13 for the camo. Not having any colour pictures of the subject this was my best guess unfortunatly. If you or anyone has the correct paint codes can you please let me know.this is is the reference i used: http://www.alternatewars.com/BBOW/Colors/F...Colors_WWII.htm thanks
  9. things are moving on with build: painted the crew: The wheels: finally managed to make another spinner from the end of a LAU pod cover: Applied primmer then painted the underside, I had to thin down some paint for the pannel lines as they were a little to dark after the preshading: then painted the uppersurface dark sea grey and applied the camo masks: then sprayed the green and did a little post shading: I think the camo looks a little light at the moment, I wanted to try and get a sun bleached look, hopefully with a filter and wash it will become a bit darker. thanks Dave
  10. Great Work! the paint chipping is especialy good, understated and effective
  11. Thanks Martin/Rob.As you mentioned Martin, the spinner isnt the right shape, it should be flush with the nose of the aircraft and a bit more blunt.Im trying to make a replacement, trouble is all my efforts so far either look worse or disintigrate on the dremel! Dave
  12. thanks Luis, you could probably buy me a real one if you sold your stash
  13. Thanks Steve. From what I can make out on my reference illustration, the legs look aluminium and the actual door, interior green thanks for the info. Hi John, Sent you a PM
  14. Thanks Fred, It took a while to orientate myself! but its a very useful picture. gear bays and the cockpit are both interior green. Thankyou for clearing that up . Dave
  15. Hello Im pretty close to painting my Barracuda and just wanted to clear up afew issues with the paint. 1)could anybody tell me the correct interior colour, would it be the standard interior green used in most other RAF aircraft or something different ? 2)would the wheel bays be painted medium sea grey, the same as the underside of the aircraft ? 3)the aircraft I am making served on HMS Illustrious in the Indian and subsequently pacific theatres in 1944.My reference Pics seem to show the aircraft in ocean grey and dark green camo ( tamiya xf-82 and xf-81) and medium sea grey on the underside (xf-83) is this correct? 4) and finaly! some of the tropical RAF uniform reference pics seems to consist of blue flying tunic with a khaki flying helmet is this correct for the theatre? thanks in advance Dave
  16. progressed a bit more with the build: Finished the canopy frames and test fitted the pilot and crew: Replaced the damaged leeboards on the wings with clear plastic: Made the wing antennas and carved out the landing light: scratch built the bombs/rails: and finally had a go at carving my own Elefant for the diorama, dont think he's quite there yet: thanks for looking
