  1. Hello-the final choice is either an Aviatik D1, or Nieuport 17 then. I'll open up the engine compartment on the D1, got a nice white-metal Austro-Daimler engine spare. Maybe even some spoked wheels as well. I was planning a Bolshevik Fokker DV111 on ski's, but it was only a trainer, so perhaps some other time. Anyway, I must make a decision.
  2. Do you still have the resin nose or has it gone?
  3. How far? Up to the end of 1921? Thanks, David.
  4. Hello, everyone. I'm considering what to build at the moment, probably something from Austro-Hungary or Imperial Russian AF. If the former, probably an Aviatik Berg D1 ser. 138, the latter a Spad A2 or Sikorsky S.16. If I can stretch the parameters, then possibly a Bolshevik Nieuport 17 from the early (1918) period. The moderators can let me know if that's acceptable. The kit will be 1:72. Thanks for letting me join in. David.
  5. Nice work, good to see an artistic approach. What colour are you spraying? I just bought an Iwata airbrush and matching compressor, so any colour tips would be helpful.
  6. Hello everyone-just bought the above and wondering what are the best acrylics/thinners to go with it? All help gratefully received. Mostly WW1/Russian WW2 a/c, with the Seafire as my pet project in 1:48th.
  7. I think if you replace the struts, and refine the wingribs, add an Aeroclub/Roden engine, add new guns from Roden spares, add lozenge transfers, then an excellent model is possible. If you want a really different scheme, the Poles had an overall ivory coloured one coded 18.01 with national markings (chessboards) on the rudder, fuselage and upper/lower wings with a Piast eagle in a red shield forward of the code. (Page 40, History of the Polish AF 1918-68, Jerzy B. Cynk, Osprey publications, pub. 1972.) Good luck, it's a nice kit.
  8. You'll always find the Osprey 'Aircraft of the aces' books a good source of info at a cheap price on evilbay. Remember that colour is subjective, have fun! The Austro-Hungarian Albatri are also worth looking at. Roden kits usually have good plans, cheap way to get ideas. See if any modellers have any plans spare, or get scans.
  9. It's still a good kit, as you've shown. Airfix kits are worth the effort-well done!
  10. There might be a conversion set (vacformed) by Rareplanes? The old Airfix special on the Lancaster is one of the modelling articles in it.
  11. If you are prepared to sand down the wings or use the vac-form Formaplane BE2-12 wings, new prop and a bit of effort in the cockpit and engine, then a lovely kit can result. Maybe Airfix might go with a new WW1 kit, like to see them do a Bristol M1C.
  12. For faded paint, try pastels. Good luck! Remember to follow the airflow direction!
  13. Nice work- how much of the Heller nose did you graft on? Is the surgery from the panel line in front of the cockpit. The cannon barrels look a bit strange, but overall it's good to see a modeller doing some conversion work. I wonder what the new Airfix 11C is going to be like, apparently it has parts for a Sea Hurricane 11C. Since it's hard to find the Revell example, I will probably buy a couple, even though I build WW1 stuff. Good model, well executed.
  14. Nice work, although time-consuming!
  15. Was it ID or Combat models perhaps?
  16. I second that, take your time and enjoy it.
  17. Are you going to do an all-black one as well? Good work!
