And me.

Wait till she sees the model!!
-
Yeah, I'll do the Mk.IIB, there's only the yellow for prop blade tips and leading edge strips, I'll add that after the group build finishes. Yes, I thought it was strange, the "missing" paint isn't actually missing from the kit, it was never included! There's a list on the box of the Humbrol paint numbers, and dark earth (29) isn't on the list. There are30, 33, 56, 64, 90, 106. All of those are present and correct. The box claims "Hawker Hurricane Mk.I" but the illustration shows the Mk.IIb option in DG/DSG/MSG- with yellow prop blade tips and leading edge strips!! The Mk.I option is in DG/DE/Sky. Methinks Airfix marketing were a little confused?
-
Looking good there! Your interior green looks better than mine!
-
That SeaHawk is one of my all-time favourite Airfix kits. Makes a lovely little model. Good luck with it!

Made a start this morning, painted some parts on the sprue, first impressions: the matt black paint is very translucent, in spite of laborious stirring, it's gonna take a few coats! Lots of ejector pin marks on the kit, just gonna leave those that aren't in the way, took the sky and light grey paints and managed to mix a colour that approximated to a pale RLM grey, so I'll use that as Interior Green. Strangely, it looks a lot "greyer" in the photos than on the plastic. I'd like to ask for a hosts' ruling about a point I'm not clear about. The paints that are supplied in the kit don't allow either colour option to be completed, and I am unable to mix the required colours from the supplied paints, which are: Dark Green, DSG, Sky, Silver, Light Grey, and Black For one option Dark Earth is missing for the camo, Yellow is missing from both options for details such as prop blade tips, and for wing leading edge strips.Neither of these can be mixed from what I have. Am I allowed to add either colour, or must I simply do without?

Are there really 54 of us taking part? That's brilliant!

A bit further with the H-B W.29! An evening of decalling: I was a little apprehensive about the lozenge decals, but my fears proved to be largely unfounded. There was a little cracking when trying to manipulate the decals into position, but lots of MicroSet seems to have done the trick. It looks better than I deserve! Beginning to look like an aeroplane now! Details to add (armament, airscrew, etc.), then the float chassis to build and add, then a matt varnish coat and she's finished!
-
I seem to remember seeing, a few years ago at a model show, probably SMW, some aircraft modelled as Scottish Republican Air Force planes, with a blue/white Saltire for markings, and at another show, either Huddersfield or SMW (not much difference, eh?), some planes (I remember an F/A 18 Hornet for one) in Imperial Roman Air Force markings- very sexy! Does anyone else remember seeing these?

OK, here it is! This the Hurri that I'll be putting together: It comes with 6 paints, which are (Humbrol Numbers) 30 Dark Green, 33 Black, 56 Aluminium/Metallic Grey, 64 Light Grey, 90 Beige Green/"Sky", 106 (Ocean?)Grey. I can't see how I'll mix Dark Earth from those for the Mk.I, so I think I'll have to build the IIb. Interior Green (or an approximation) should be creatable from Sky and a Grey, or the Dark Green and a Grey. The tube of glue and the brush provided do not inspire me....... but I've got to use them! So good luck everybody, let's build these the way Airfix intended!!??!!
-
Why don't we have a smiley for "I'm giving up modelling"?
-
Of course they could, crewed by sighted mercenaries!
-
What everybody else said!!! I'm giving up modelling.......yet again.......
-
After getting a couple more replies, maybe this one will run..... I make the count 11 interested so far, any more fancy a go? It'll be next year, and from the number of GBs that appear to be upcoming, probably the second half of next year!!

Gosh,that's nice!

Battle of the Alantic Group Build
Fifer54 replied to AnonymousDFB1's topic in Future Group Build Archives
I've bought a kit!!!(for this GB, I mean) Popped into my local MuddleZone and spotted a Revell 1/350 Type VIIc U-Boot, and thought it was spot on for the GB. Resisted the temptation of a 1/32 F-4 Phantom for £14.99 (I've nowhere to put one of those!!) and brought the U-Boat home with me. I did have thoughts of modelling an "empty" seascape with a big oil-slick in it, and calling it "the sinking of U-XXX" or some such, OR a seascape with a periscope breaking the surface, but if I can figure out a way of modelling a plume of black smoke (How do you dye cotton wool?) I fancy a diorama of a surfaced damaged U-Boat, with a Coastal Command Wimpey overflying it. I don't hold out much hope of producing that with MY modeling "skills". Can one of the maritime modellers please produce a tutorial or a "masterclass" on modelling seascapes for ship modelling virgins? -
Well, it's almost a fortnight since anyone posted in this thread, so it looks like there's not enough interest to make this one a goer.

1 month. Painted. Repops allowed.

Well, once again I am reluctant to post the poor results of my meagre talent, but you all need a good laugh, so here is the first of my builds for this GB, the British Mk.IV "female" Tank in 1/72 scale, Kit by Emhar, built OOB in one of the kit's decal options, paint by Revell acrylic and Humbrol enamel, decals applied using the "Microscale system". Build thread is here:http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43447 I've now found the "Macro" setting on SWMBO's digital camera! I enjoyed this build, I do feel my weathering ended up a bit heavy-handed, but then it is built by me, so rubbish is to be expected!
-
Well, that's it for the Mk.IV "female" tank. Complete at last! I got a lot of stuff done on it today, a coat of MicroGloss, decals, a coat of MicroFlat, a drybrush coat of Dark Earth (the initial base colour) and the tracks fitted. I did try to apply a little weathering to the tracks, but I found that the paint I was using (Revell acrylic) woudn't stick to them and made no difference at all. So I abandoned that idea..... So here she is.... further pics will be found in the gallery. Now that I have allowed the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29's paint time to dry and cure properly, it doesn't look half as bad as it did last night, so I'll carry on with it as it is for now. Another coat of Linen on the wing undersides has sorted out the marks and unevenness there. A gloss coat will be the next step, then those lozenge decals........
-
A bit further with the Mk IV tank! A coat of Revell dark earth acrylic, followed up with a dry-brush of Humbrol Linen enamel. Looks lighter-coloured in the pix than in the styrene, and although I say it myself, I have pleasantly surprised myself with the effect.Time for a gloss coat, then decals and a dry-brush with the original dark earth. Then I'll spoil it with the tracks! and finish with a matt coat. Getting there! As far as the Hansa-Brandenburg goes,The paint is still giving me sh*t I'm still having problems with the acrylic paint on the fuselage. The first dark grey coat was lightly thinned (4:1) with Hydrogen hydroxide (think about it),and was lovely and smooth, then a second coat went on, but unthinned, that was 'orrible-uneven and "lumpy", sanded it off to bare plastic and re-applied more paint, but it's still uneven-will need another

Any of these could have an Air Force, or an Army. Some could even have a Navy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_countries
-
it's, erm, a bit, how can I put this,....PINK
-
I vote for only using the paints provided. The kit I was going to build is a 1/72 Hurricane, It doesn't say anywhere that its a starter set, but it includes paints, cement, and a brush, so I assume it's eligible. Do I have to use the brush from the set, or will any hairy stick do?
-
Are those two even in the same scale??!!?? I'd like to see the Type 94, and sonofjim's diorama idea sounds brilliant! My as well!
