  1. Seconded! I bought both from a trader at my first visit to the Huddersfield show (forget the year). When they were built, they didn't 'arf look impressive hung from the ceiling with a towrope between them, but the Zwilling was, indeed, 'orrible. I won't be doing that, not at those prices!
  2. Another one done! Build thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43447
  3. Well, the W29 is as near to finished as she'll ever be, so I'll call a halt and post her in the gallery, but here she is: I've enjoyed this build, but I have to say that the struts from the floats to the wing underside were a b@#+%%* to do. They kept falling off! And why, when the superglue tube says "bonds skin and eyes in seconds", does it take it 10 minutes to secure plastic to plastic? The lozenge camo decals were easier to use than I expected, but I'm glad I chose a monoplane!
  4. Well, I didn't think I'd be the old codger to mention Torchy! But I was in Oldham Public Library today, and saw a DVD of "Torchy, the Battery Boy".
  5. I don't only remember Fireball and Supercar, but even Four Feather Falls, Gerry Anderson's western puppet series that came before them! Watch now, some old codger will say something about Torchy, or Twizzle! Space Patrol, with the sausage-loving (oo-er, missus!) alien? Nah, don't remember that!
  6. Now we're getting somewhere! The float chassis has been added to the airframe using CyanoAcrylate, and she's starting to look like a W.29! Getting excited now!! Nearly finished another one. That'll make 3 so far this year. Haven't been this prolific since Airfix Series 1 kits cost 2/-!
  7. Found a website offering free downloads of card models of Supercar and Fireball XL5. Find it here: http://pierrespapermodels.com/free.aspx Worth a look!
  8. Well, I've really surprised myself! I thought that I would need to build a jig to assemble the float chassis, but my cutting mat and some Blu-Tak with careful alignment has enabled this: Just the paint to repair, and then airframe and float chassis can be united- the end is in sight!
  9. Looking good, Bobski! Lots of skilled work gone into that, but when I saw the thread title, I thought you were building Revell's old 1/32 Hawker Typhoon!
  10. Thaks, I'll call in next time I'm in the area!
  11. What museum was that, Mike? Just in case I'd like to visit, you understand.
  12. This looks like it could be interesting......
  13. Well done Chris, good work there! The expression "snatching victory from the jaws of defeat" comes to mind.
  14. I have to admit I'm pleased with the way the lozenge has turned out, a lot better than I expected! The decalling is complete now, so I've coated the airframe in MicroFlat. Now I need to build up and fit the float chassis, but I think I'll need to create a jig for alignment. So, I'll have to buy some Lego, if I can find a set that isn't tailored to creating a specific construction, one of the old general sets with a good selection of bricks and bases. There will now be a short interval for Lego procurement- my kids are too old for it, and my grandkids too young! Think I'll try Freecycle.
  15. Yes, it's rather peculiar, isn't it? ISTR being told (or reading somewhere) that it's supposed to represent an oil thrower ring behind the spinner! Must be a bit overscale!
  16. Well, I dug another Starter Kit out of the stash (that's both of them now). It's a Westland Sea King, which comes with markings for ASR machines of 22 Sqn RAF or 330 Sqn RNorAF. I would have had another go for this GB, but I can't foresee a satisfactory finish. The RAF machine is (of course) overall Yellow, and even with 2 pots of yellow paint in the kit, I can't imagine a decent result without primer and more coats. The main paint colours for the other option are not included in the kit. So I won't now be building it for this group build.
  17. 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Build Thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=46756
  18. That's a crackin' little model, Milo. I think I'll have to get one of these Whirlwinds.... Sophie's Mustang is a model for her to be proud of!
  19. Looks good. I really like your mottle on the fuselage.
  20. That looks great, Mark! I liked your point about building another Zero, but with the benefit of all your equipment, tools, chemicals, etc. As I came to the end of my Hurricane build, I had exactly the same thought! I expect several of us have.....
  21. I've had a "Blitz" at this model and managed to reach a state that I'll call finished! I take it we don't have a "Gallery " thread, so I'll post all my finished pics here.
