  1. would you be interested in disposing of one? A 1/48 Red Arrow is exactly what I want for this GB! Please PM me if so.
  2. A hawk is a little outside my usual genre, but I've been thinking for a while that I ought to build one. I hadn't thought of taking part in a GB with one, but I like your idea, Mark, of everyone making a different RAF T1/1A airframe, although I fancy a red one! (or XX184 in the "Spitfire" camo!)
  3. Well done that man! It's good to see another fool modelling enthusiast having a go at a retro model! The expression "making a silk purse from a sow's ear" seems unnecessarily cruel to FROG, but I'm sure you know what I mean. I think I might manage a pigskin purse!!!
  4. It came from the small stash of a deceased relative whose widow shared the kits among whichever family members were interested! I got this, a MPM 1/72 Mil Mi-1 helo, a Revell 1/48 B-25 Mitchell which I intend building as a PBJ-1J (now that I've found a pic of one without a radar pod!) and a Matchbox 1/72 Wellington. A few cousins got 4 kits as well, I didn't get there first or I'd have had the Airfix Saro SR53 and the Monogram 1/48 B-58 Hustler and 1/72 B-36!
  5. Here's what I'll be building........ This is the box...... The obligatory sprue shot...... Can't wait to get to grips with this. I like the dark blue plastic, probably seemed like a good idea for an aircraft that was a nightfighter.....shame the colour scheme is a pale blue-grey!......
  6. This one's mine........
  7. Well, I've tried to vote, but I'm getting an error message saying I haven't made a choice before clicking "vote". I have done so, but the poll software doesn't seem to be picking it up, perhaps because of the size of the poll, with three "questions" and only one "vote" button! It was very, very difficult to choose just one out of all those fine models but I have made a choice and will vote for it as soon as the poll is working!
  8. I know I'm already in this GB with a MiG-15, but given the length of the GB, I'd like to add another model, an Airfix 1/72 Mil Mi-24 "Hind" in the markings of the Nicaraguan Sandinista Air Force.
  9. IIRC from a previous life as a coal miner, the backup generating system at coal-fired power stations (think Drax, Eggborough) involves a brace of Avons.
  10. Weeelll..... I need to start again with this one! It's been stuck to my fingers so many times with the cyano that it's ended up screwed up in the round hangar under the desk! But the best bit about card modelling is that I can simply print it off again and have another go without any expense! Might change to something with fewer wings, though........
  11. That Seahawk looks good. It's one of my favourite old Airfix kits, haven't built one in years. Maybe I should have a go at one!
  12. That's a nice little sportscar collection you've got there! Great work!
  13. That's a simple little operation, that'll leave you with a dinky little zigzag scar on the heel of your hand and your wrist. Shouldn't put you out of action for more than a couple of weeks!
  14. I now know what I'll be building. A Messerschmitt Me410 is in the post to me as I write!
  15. Congatulations, Dad! And also to Mum and baby.
  16. That "discolouring" tip is the best I've seen for , ooooooh, ages!
  17. It was so long ago I can't be certain, but it might have been www.fiddlersgreen.net I'm expecting to be well entertained by this one, not done any card modelling since primary school! Edit to correct a mis-spelling.
  18. Count me in, but I don't yet know what I'll be building. I've only 1 Matchbox kit in the stash, and that's a Wellington, that I want to finish in the maritime scheme, so I think it might be a tall order for a short GB like this one! And. like Erwin, I'm off on me hols during this GB. Should be time to finish something, though! EvilBay beckons!
  19. To be honest, it's easier to show than to describe or explain. If you google stretching sprue you should find a video somewhere. But, briefly, you need a short (5cm should do) length of straight sprue and a heat source. A candle (adequately secured to prevent accidents) is fine. Light the candle. Hold the sprue at each end and position it just above the candle flame, watch the sprue carefully, keep a slight tension on the sprue and you will notice it soften and the surface become "glossy". At this point, remove the sprue from the heat source and simultaneously pull the ends of the sprue apart. You should find that the soft glossy sprue will stretch into a thin filament like a length of wire. It takes a little practice, but once you get "the knack" of it, you can control the thickness of your product by varying the speed and extent of your "stretch". I think the problem most beginners have is pulling the sprue without removing it from the heat. It will just break and maybe catch fire as well! It's a useful technique to learn to create antenna wires, rigging, brake lines etc. Good luck with it!
  20. I've finished the two kits I declared for this groupbuild, but I haven't had enough of my WW1 modelling fix! But I thought I'd have a go at something new (to me) by way of another model. I downloaded this: from a website that I've forgotten now, and I'm going to try a card model. I've made a start by cutting out the fuselage parts: And that's where we're up to!
