After a bit of thought, I've decided to build this as "Ding Hao!".
The thought of another natural metal finish, and painting invasion stripes, has put me off "Impatient Virgin!!

I realised I had an ideal candidate for this GB in my stash. It was this:
It's actually been started. Last night I had the Interior Green paint out for a different model in a Movie Stars GB elsewhere, and without thinking I painted all the interior areas onthis as well!
Oh, and the seat and joystick have been assembled to the cockpit. It doesn't constitute 25% complete, anyway!
Let me apologise now for the poor photography, my camera skills are at about the same level as my modelling skills!
The kit looks like this:
Monogram's simple instruction sheet . . .
It says in the instructions that a "realistic and attractive model can be completed without painting", which is good to know . . .
The single decal option is Col. James Howard's "Ding Hao!", but I may or may not use them . . .
The instruction sheet also suggests cutting the IP decal from the sheet and gluing it to the kit IP! If I don't use these decals, I'll build this as "Impatient Virgin" of the 376th FS, 361st FG.
This is an option on the Kits-World sheet I'm using for my P-51D build:
This little lot will keep me busy . . .

For my second entry to this GB, I am once again working in 1/48 scale.
I will be building this:
but not in either of the kit's finishing schemes.
The kit looks like this:
Here are the decals, most of which I won't be using, although all those stencils appear enticing, but life's too short to apply all the stencils (except on a Phantom)
There is a nice glossy 4-view paint and decal guide:
The other side details the alternative scheme. The options supplied in the kit are "Missouri Armada" of the 362nd FS, 357th FG, 8th AF, and "Dooleybird" of No.19 Sqn, RAF.
However this model won't be using either of those options!
Here are the decals I'll be using . . .
My model will be finshed using the Kits-World decal sheet KW148178 as "Jan", of the 334th FS, 4th FG, flown by Lieut. Bob Dickmeyer with artwork by Don Powell. The artwork for "Jan"
was taken from a photo provided by the pilot.
I haven't actually been able to find a photo of "Jan", although there are several pix of "Blondie", which carried a very similar finish.
The reason for choosing "Jan" is that my SWMBO of 21 years is called Janice, and she is known to all as Jan.
I may also have a third entry to this GB, which may (or may not!) make use of the other option on this decal sheet

I need an acrylic version of revell anthracite . . .
Revell do No.9 Anthracite in their Aqua acrylic range (or they certainly used to). It's my go-to colour for tyres, that or Humbrol 67 Tank Grey (which is easier to find locally to me!

Oooh! It seems that I'm first finished! Here is my:
1/48 SMER Macchi-Castoldi MC.200 Saetta
because she's Finito Benito! Sorry, couldn't resist because it's so appropriate
Build thread can be found here.
I'm about to start work on a P-51D for this GB, but it's too late to post it tonight. I'll set up a build thread tomorrow.
This kit has been a warped, flash-ridden, ill-fitting monster. For a siple primitive kit, it has really tried my patience. I suppose working an MPM 1/72 Lockheed Hudson at the same time hasn't helped, but that too is nearing completion.
Thank you all for looking at the fruits of my meagre talents.

I have kept on forgetting to take pictures of this build (as usual!), with the result that this model is now
Finito Benito! and for once that's appropriate!
More pictures in the gallery!
And that has been my first entry to this GB.
I think I can feel a Mustang (or 2) coming on. I will post more in the morning . . .

When I traced my family tree, I got one "branch" back to a couple who married in 1820. My family history is full of ploughmen and farmers. I'm from good East Fife farming stock, although the family name (the clan) has connections
with Canmore and Stuart royalty. Three Drummond (for such my name is!) women were consorts of Scottish kings, two as wives and one as mistress and then fiancee- she was poisoned by a rival shortly after the marriage had been
scheduled. Drummonds were the Dukes of Perth in the Jacobite nobility, and once rehabilitated(!), Earls of Perth in the British nobility. Drummonds fought in the Battle of Bannockburn (1314) where Scottish independence was secured.
Drummond clansmen scattered caltrops (twisted nails with 4 points where one point always points upwards) in the path of the English Heavy Cavalry, and broke their charge (which was no mean feat).
Every British monarch has had Drummond blood in their veins . . .

If this goes ahead as proposed, I'll not be able to build one of the Merit F1 cars. It seems they appeared in 1957 . . .

As a 1954 vintage old
gitcodger, I'm finding the same problem that other 'senior' members have encountered: finding a suitable kit that is a) available and b) affordable. Even Scalemates falls down as nearly all of their entries for older'vintage' kits give the introduction year as 195x, which doesn't really help.
If 195x could be made 'acceptable' as a date for entries from modellers of a certain age, that would help a lot! This is a great idea for a GB, and if it should happen, it'll show a LOT of modellers just how far moulding technology (and
modellers' expectations!) have come since those early days.
I rather fancy building one of those Merit 1950s F1 cars. I believe SMER still have a couple of them in their range, as do MisterCraft.
Kingkit (other secondhand kit dealers are available) has several of the old Merit biplane kits. They seem reasonably priced at £14.99 each . . .
I'll stop now 'cos I'm rambling on; it's me age, yer know . . .

Impressive progress and problem solving. Hopefully you find a way to encourage the Hudson's errant instrument panel into place as well.
Thanks, Col. I've made it fit by holding the kit fuselage upside-down, gluing (Tamiya cement, but not the Extra-thin) the IP's location and wriggling it into place with some angled tweezers! it wasn't difficult really, it's the rest of that kit that's
giving me problems . . .
Anyroadup, there's been progress with the Saetta as well! Most of the airframe is assembled now:
And after allowing time for glue to set, and filling those wingroots, I threw some paint at her:
that's the state of play at the moment, waiting for paint to dry. I'm trying to use up my enamel paints to make the switch to Acrylics, so drying takes some time . . .
She's taking shape, just more paint, clear coat, decals, matt clear coat and final assembly to go!

You can mix 1/32 and 1/35 figures, the 1/32 would represent "big guys" and the 1/35 "little guys". Just remember that big guys and little guys would carry the same size gear and equipment in real life, use weapons, webbing etc all in one scale.
I'd use 1/32 aircraft, as Red Dog says above, most folk won't be able to tell . . .

Thanks, Col.!
My pilot has now recovered from his injuries and surgery, and has tried out the seat for size:
There is no joystick in the kit, so I cut the warhead end off a FROG 1/72 60lb. RP to create a control column!
The intrepid pilot then donned his flight suit, and sat in the office once again!:
I attempted to fit the engine into the cowling, and found that there was no positive location to mount it to, so I made up a little frame and glued it to the back of the engine.
This has given the engine a (relatively) solid mount, and set the front of the engine in (roughly) the right place as far as how far forward it sits in the cowl is concerned.
it's not perfect but it'll do!
This morning I've closed up the fuselage. A "filling & sanding" session will follow after the glue sets . . .
(Ignore that IP in the foreground. It's from the Revell/MPM Hudson I'm working on ATM- I need to figure out a way to add it with THAT kit's fuselage closed up!)
I think she's taking shape nicely. The components that were hiding in the flash have "scrubbed up" quite well, and while she'll never have Tamigawa detail standards, she's coming together . . .

Some progress here, done some parts painting and a bit of assembly. There is detail on the inside of the fuselage, which is better than the total absence of any cockpit side detail in the HobbyBoss P-51D I building parallel to this . . .
Please excuse photo quality, I needed the flash to "pop" the detail! The interior doesn't look that pale under normal lighting!
