  1. Wasn't a former editor of a certain "International Magazine about Aviation in Scale" caught running a good sideline of selling kits and accessories out of his attic, when in fact they were from someone else's attic? (Namely the mags review stash...)
  2. Add me in Ireland; who will buy in both scales if they were available. If only one scale, then 1/700 as then it would fit in with the 13 built and 20-odd in the stash I have in that scale. As opposed to the 2 1/350 kits (Enterprise & Nimitz). Note to self; must get an Airfix Lusty... Actually, there's a few gaps in 1/700 carriers starting with a 70's Ark Royal, a final fit Enterprise and a Charles De Gaulle. Then this QE/PoW, Foch/Sao Paulo/Clemenceau, JFK, Midway, Coral Sea, Eagle and please ANY SCB-125 Essex ship. I think Hobbyboss missed a trick here when they released more kits of Wasp-class and Burke-class ships when others already do them.
  3. That would be a possible farm strip in the Republic Of Ireland. Eire is not really used any more and is considered by many here to be a derogatory term for ROI when used by our eastern neighbours of Anglo-Saxon descent. Just sayin'..... Back on topic. Anyone see the Typhoons intercepting the Bears today?
  4. Me like! Anyone know where these are in stock?
  5. Those gliders have shown up 3 or 4 times over the last week. Each time they have just appeared out there and they have D-prefix registrations. Must be a glitch or else some German pilots are enjoying some good thermals while on holiday in Waterford....
  6. Just a quick one. Haven't seen either kit. Want a typical 80's war load (I.e. triple mavericks etc.) Thanks Roy
  7. Italeri original issue is what you want; it has both engine types and decs for ZH588. I built mine in her original colours as you plan to, but I put in the later nozzles as i found a pic of her as such. Airfix kit is not as nice and I'm not sure what decals are in it.
  8. Cool. Got an IAC PC-9M (Irl264) from what looks like Linton-on-Ouse heading SSW. There is something called RICO11 doing a lot of tracks over Norfolk. Prob from LN or Mildenhall. Any idea what it is?
  9. Hi Mike. The front of the island is in the same position as before. The back extends further back than before to cover the new armament elevator and extends nearly as far back as the position of the old radar mast tower. Also the no 4 wire is deleted (the most forward one).
  10. p.s. you may find this useful.. http://s41.photobucket.com/user/sageburner/library/italeri%20nimitz%20article%20pics?sort=3&page=1
  11. Italeri Nimitz class kits are basic but generally accurate and in 1/720 instead of 1/700. Reagan and Bush are the most modern ships (they are the newest) but they also contain all the parts added over the years to make any of the ships as they were released. Best to get aftermarket decals and build CVN-74 Stennis or CVN-75 Truman as these are the closest to what's in the box as per current fit. You can also build a very accurate Nimitz, Ike, Vinson, (less so)Roosevelt and Lincoln as they were built from what's in the box. The island parts supplied for Reagan/Bush are too short in length (they are the same length as the Nimitz ones; they should be nearly a quarter as long again. Best thing is they are easy to build. If you want any of the ships from CVN-68 Nimitz to CVN-71 Roosevelt in their current (modern) fit you will need the Trumpeter 1/700 Nimitz 2005 version. This is reperesentative of the updated fittings all these ships are getting as they go through RCOH in numerical order. (Nimitz was first in 2001). Hope this helps. R
  12. The F-4 Aces kit HAS to be the old ESCI mould, as it has all the bits to make a C/D/J. Italeris is a E/F/G or retooled (sort of) S. Just as well I like both. Good news on the Jet Ranger and ATR.
  13. Hi, this is a subject close to my heart; I used good ol' Humbrol 250 desert sand on mine. Looks ok to me. Like everything it depends on what light it's in when you are looking at it. (Flash washes the details out somewhat....) Another less good pic here behind the SR-71. As far as my info goes only number 5 (the only one that got back to Nimitz) was painted with Stars'N'Bars after the event. They all had an individual number painted on the front just below (or just on) the battery cover. It can be clearly seen on ship no 2 in the first pic in this thread to the lower right of the open access panel on the nose. Check the positioning on the individual helos. Note also some lost the nose gear door, some kept it. Same as per winches. Not sure if all windows on all helos were painted out. Watch for the overspray on the tyres and around exhausts. I got docked points once in a competition because my model has these features. (one of the reasons I don't do comps anymore....) Hope this helps :-) Roy
  14. Well, for me a Shack. Right version too. Along with C-54, Victor and MiG-21. ISS will be first on the list if the LMS ever gets it in (still waiting for my shuttle launch tower). Add in the '13 & '15 Mustangs and the BMW ipod8 means Revell are getting my money this year...

  16. great thanks. read 2 reviews online that conflicted as to which they were.
  17. Just got the recent release of the Airfix Saturn V Skylab kit. Just want to know, I've got the Apollo CSM/LM parts in the box as well. Are these the original inaccurate parts or are they the newer retooled parts? Thinking of doing an Apollo config if they are the newer ones. TIA Roy
  18. Anyone mention a 1/350 HMS Queen Elizabeth? Personally I'd prefer it and Ark Royal Phantomised fit in 1/700. Still think a 1/24 kit should be a 1977 Ford Cortina Mk 4. :-)
  19. Decals probably, as the old ESCI decals while very crisply printed are prone to "silvering" when put on. A good way around this is the Johnsons Klear (the floor polish) technique; dip decal in water as normal, brush on some Klear on where decal is to go, place decal, brush on more klear over to seal, allow to dry. I used these very decals on an old Matchbox Sea Harrier because I liked the scheme so much. (My Esci got aftermarket decals for the grey/white scheme). Middle of this photo; Nothing else is needed for the ESCI kits, apart from maybe a seat. They are still amongst the best Harrier kits ever. If you are just starting out, keep it simple. And above all, have fun!
  20. Liam. Email inbound. And I have something to help you build this car.... but be prepared for a bit of work... and some searching..
  21. Irish Fougas were only ever fitted with the larger tip tanks a-la heller kit. Only one aircraft was ever seen flying- once- without tip tanks of any sort. According to Joe's book. HTH Roy
  22. I've put up a few varied suggestions that i thought would garner more support. 1/720 CVN-65 kit retooled to a final fit version (no sign of dragons promised one so maybe steal their thunder- and come in at half the price); 1/24 Ford Cortina Mk4 (who here didnt have one in their extended family? Left hand drive becomes German Ford Taunus); 2015 Ford Mustang; 1/72 FG.1 Phantom (i.e. affordable and available); my own cars (SEAT Leons mk2 & 3); reissues of 1/32 F-4E and Matchbox 1/72 Provost & F-86A. I've also voted for HS125, HMS Ark Royal, Ford Capris, AEW Gannets and more than i can remember.....
  23. As a postscript to this, I recently finished a Revell Hunter in the 4FTS red-white-grey scheme. I used Xtracolour Red arrows red as instructed on the decal sheet. During construction I also tested Hu 174 as apparently it's a close match. Well, they are identical to my eyes, only Humbrol is matt/satin and Xtra is gloss. When doing touchups I used the Hu174 over the X19 and I can't see the difference after final varnish. The best bit though, when I parked finished Hunter next to my T-2 and T-45 that I used the above quoted mix for, it looks too close to call. So for international orange, if you can't get a straight tin without mixing, try Xtracolour X19 OR Humbrol 174. HTH. Roy
  24. I always thought as these were built in UK that they were BS 381C; 697 gloss light blue grey same as the RAF ones. This is also what's quoted by Modeldecal for a US Marines AV-8A. I also assume that aircraft uppers were not painted FS 16440 light gull gray but it's BS equivalent, which I think is BS381C; 627 Light aircraft grey. Happy to be proven wrong though. HTH Roy
