Italeri "new" (reissue, repop, rebox etc.) in 2017
roym replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
CVN-70 Carl Vinson re-released with the extra parts added since the CVN-74 & CVN-75 issues, namely the extra sponsons and armament necessary to build it as comissioned (well most of it anyway, still can't technically do it accurately without GMM photo etch for the correct radar mast). New and more useful decals too. http://www.italeri.com/scheda.asp?idProdotto=2631 -
Can I add to this topic with another question. As they (F-4K no 1 and F-4M no 1) were built in the US and were sorta prototypes, were they painted in FS equivalent shades or proper BS EDSG/White & Dk Green/Grey/LAG? This has been bugging me for years.

1; Ford Cortina Mk 4. PLEASE! Modular moulds (Different engine) will give 1.3/1.6 (Kent), 1.6/2.0 Pinto or 2.3 Cologne V6 versions. Even a South African 3.0S Modular moulds (interior, bumpers & photo etch badges) would give Base, L, GL, Ghia and S versions. Modular moulds (body) would give 2-door, 4-door or estate versions. Modular moulds for wheels (steels, dartboard sports, Ghia alloys, Rostyles and aftermarket Wolfrace). LHD and trim for Euro Taunus TC2, RHD for Ireland/UK/Aus/NZ (latter with further engine and bumper versions). Another tweak of the moulds (Bodies mainly) gives a variety of Mark 3 or Mark 5/TC3 versions. Another mould for Taunus TC1. Chassis, engines, interiors, wheels mostly are already above. And with the engines, wheels and some other bits your already on the way to Capris and Escorts. Even a bit to a Pinto powered Sierra. Even some of a P-100. How many here could build their Dads car,(or even their car!) with the list of bits above? Personally I'd want one of each. 2; Volvo S-40/V-40 (1998-2004) 3; And my current motor, SEAT Leon FR 2.0 DSG.

I have spare VF-114 F-4J decals in 1/72 from Superscale 72-111 if you want them. http://modelingmadness.com/others/decals/traillss72111.htm

That Kitech/Zhengdefu is a very poor quality "copy" (read rip-off) of the Hasegawa kit. While the parts breakdown and assemby sequence are the same as the Has kit, it is nowhere near it in quality. As a matter of fact, I would put the Matchbox kit far ahead of it in ranking, while it itself is far behind the Has kit. (At least the Matchbox fits...) Despite being a copy, it has raised panel lines. (Has is recessed). Cockpit parts float around in the fuselage, canopy is molded from toffee, can't see whats flash and whats the part, and doesn't fit the fuse openings; wings are warped, don't fit the roots; noseleg is moulded offline from one side to the other like as if the mould is mis-aligned. If all thats not enough, the plastic is cheap and nasty, had to use my strongest solvent to make it stick. Run away, buy anything else to start with. Not this though...

SK-Model 1:72nd Grumman EA-6B Prowler, Hasegawa?
roym replied to 71chally's topic in The Rumourmonger
As long as it's not the Zhengdefu/Kitech rubbish copy of the Hasegawa kit. -
yes it's a nice kit, and that's why I was asking.

I guess Italeri (did a UB years ago and liked it) but also aware of other brands, some good some not so good. New kits from Trumpy and Zvezda but not sure these are the right version. All advice appreciated. Roy

Thanks folks. iaf-man, I was wondering about the yellow eagles head as I found a photo of 644 "lightning" (the first plane listed on the link above) with the small red and black squadron badge in a SAM book. So I went with that. No kill marks either. Just assumed SS got it wrong. Kinda sorry now as the fake marking would have been an interesting point. But i have matt-coated the model. Maybe next time!

Currently trying to decal an Israeli f-15 from the old Superscale/Microscale sheet 72-483 IDF/AF MIg killers. I only have a partial instruction sheet for the set and my first question is regarding national insignia. The sheet has 2 different sizes of nat insig, which is correct for what? Are they both used on each aircraft? I always thought Israeli aircraft used the same size in all positions? TIA Roy

ZVE7310 1:72 Mikoyan MiG-29S "Swifts" What's in the box?
roym replied to MVW's topic in The Rumourmonger
Sorry for the hijack. Does any Zvezda or Italeri kit allow a Polish Air Force Mig 29 to be built? -
Hi all, been putting a set of Astra Decals for Lakenheath F-15C on a Academy 1/72 kit. It's painted with Xtracolour gloss enamel with an additional coat or two of Klear (Future). So far I've only put on some tail markings and the 4 national insignia. Using both the Klear puddle method on some decals and the Japanese versions of Sol & Set (green and blue square bottles) on others I'm still getting severe silvering. Are this brand just prone to it? I have a spare set if I need them but to do an LN F-15C I'm not aware of any other manufacturer.

Is there such a thing? Or better maybe is what DON'T they use? Would rather not leave all those pylons empty. Have the Academy kit on the go in 1/72. I presume LGBs of some sort, just don't fancy all those cluster and 500lb iron bombs in the kit.

I will be getting a couple. Still like the Monogram Phantom. Would love a couple of F-4Ds as well. Never got the Accurate Miniatures releases in IRE. At least Revell is easily available here.

Not sure if this was spotted. Apologies if so. Did a search but didn't find it. VF-84 decals. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/1013761-revell-03491-f4j-phantom-us-navy

New Tamiya 1/48 Grumman F-14 (A, Late A, D) Tomcat
roym replied to Robert's topic in The Rumourmonger
Is the boat tail fairing correct for the VF-1 plane? It's right for the other two for sure but I thought Enterprise's Tomcats had the early fairing until they went overall gull grey. Also are the early fin stiffeners correct for the Nimitz bird? -
Phantom FGR.2 EMI Recce Pod Fujimi / Matchbox size
roym replied to 71chally's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Oh dear, Matchbox F-4K/M kit in "it actually got something right" accuracy shocker scandal... -
Onboard Nimitz during her first Atlantic cruise. (note F-4Js from VF-31 still with Saratoga markings). I think it's XT862 but thats from just squinting at the photo. Anyway it's an FG.1 from Ark in '75 with RWR, no jubliee marking and nose modex 013. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/Phantom_FG.1_of_892_NAS_landing_on_USS_Nimitz_(CVN-68)_1975.jpg If anyone knows of any other RN tooms that cross decked on CVN-68 please let me know! Rgds, Roy
