  1. Specifically the version used by the Irish Defence Forces. I know nothing about modern military vehicles but I see a few out there that LOOK something similar to this. Also, do I need to change anything on the Airfix Scorpion to make an Irish one? If anyone knows, or knows of a forum/site that does, please advise. Cheers, Roy
  2. Agreed, I have never seen it over here, and when they turn up on ebay, they go for silly money. Roy (who want's one for his Ark Royal airwing; Phantom-check, Gannet AEW-check, Sea King-need decals and mark number; Buccaneer.....)
  3. Get hold of a Matchbox kit, the simpler the better, build it without filler, (unpainted is good too), do it exactly as the instructions suggest. DO NOT reference it or any part of it against plans, profiles, photos etc. If necessary use the fabulous box art for painting/decalling/weathering purposes. The satisfaction of seeing it finished in such a short time will cure any amount of AMS. Even more so if you have painted it and realise how good it looks anyway, compared to the photo-etched, resin-loaded Japanese wunderkit you spent 10 times the money and time on.... Works for me! This is supposed to be fun, isn't it?
  4. Tim, 1; Don't buy the magazine. 2; Don't start the same crap you tried over on ARC. 3; What has this to do with Military Aircraft Modelling > Modern? Actually, never mind. I've wasted enough of my precious lifetime reading your stirring...... Boys and girls, if you are going to respond, get this ready.........
  5. Thanks Nev, but as I said above, I need Humbrol numbers, no other brand around here......
  6. http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=hfbz50gwsRM Kinda quaint 3 parter. Shiny new IIAF Tomcats. Ok, not shiny, rather matt but cool all the same. The M-61 cannons seem to have got some use.... Cheers, Roy p.s. Hillman Hunters were popular, and the teacher with the glasses in part two looks scary.
  7. Ok, I knew ye'd help but I didn't want to sound too demanding..... I don't want to mix paints but the LMS only has Humbrol anyway. Let's see, what have I got so far; M-24 Chaffee; Sd. Kfz. 234/2 Puma; L.R.D.G. 30cwt Chevrolet & Jeep; M19 Tank Transporter; Monty's Caravan/Leyland Retriever & Scout Car (got this in a Chinese Matchbox box); and the Sd. Kfz. 11, Pak 40 & BMW R75. On order from the shop, Krupp Protze (Kfz.70) & 3.7-cm-Pak; Humber Mk.II. I suppose an easier way is just to tell me what is the correct Humbrol paint for the following; The Morris truck and Willys Jeep. Are they Bronze green or olive drab/green? US Army Green WW2? German Panzer grey? German uniform blue/grey? German sand? British sand? Afrika Korps Uniform sand? Lastly, was the T-34/76 green or white? Boxtop of the original says white, side of box says green! Cheers, Roy
  8. I've been getting the Revell reissues of these as they come out, but the paint mixes are driving me nuts. Is there somewhere I can download the original painting instructions so I can get the Humbrol numbers? Cheers, Roy

  10. This was just posted on ARC and the plane's already been slammed...... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7043812.stm
  11. I've been wishing for a 1/700 Phantomised Ark Royal for years. Don't have room for a 1/350 one though, as already have the Enterprise booked in that scale. A 1/700 one would go nicely with these however.....
  12. Actually not bad, as it's the old tool Hasegawa copied. The lines are nicely engraved instead of being raised, and the hole at the back of the cockpit is now filled. All this good work is however ruined by a canopy that is too tall to accommodate seats that are also too tall. The nose also points down a little. If you can replace the seats and daw-fake a old tool Hasegawa canopy to fit you've got the perfect F-14 kit in my view, as it is an easy build. Opening the canopy makes the effect less noticeable, but the cockpit is as bare as the original Hasegawa release. On another note, only the Hasegawa new tool and Italeri allows the Iran option out of the box, as it has both types of fin with early and late stiffeners, the early (a-la Iran) is like a pair of hexagons on the tips, and the late is a sort of a scabbed-on t-bone shape. The Fujimi has only the late type. Use the Hi-decal set for markings though, as both the Japanese kit decals are wrong, being too big for a start.
  13. Super job. But I don't believe this is only your second model.
  14. Cheers, cool photo BTW John, now I want to do a nat metal one too! Laurent, I used to have a girlfriend from Triel-Sur-Seine, a long long time ago. Anywhere near you?
  15. Thanks guys for all that. The Matchbox looks better than I expected (or should that be less worse..) Never heard of the AML kit before now, thanks. Might try to track one down after the current ebay purchases that are in the post are forgotten about by SWMBO. Will also try to suss out a Revell and Heller, that way I can do both a 111E and a V. Just noticed, the difference between the 111C and V, is the cockpit further back or the intakes further forward on the 111? Yes, these threads are very useful.
  16. Similar to threads on the F-14, Alpha Jets and lightnings, what are the respective kits like for these? Just finishing up on my Italeri Kfir, and thought it might be nice to check out the development of the Mirage to Kfir in 1/72, and also to do a 111E and Dagger for my Falklands/Malvinas collection. I built the Airfix 111c as a child and remember being unimpressed with the hollow jetpipe but don't remember any thing else about it. Never saw the Matchbox but see there are some on ebay. Can't seem to find any Heller kits except the 2000, same with Italeri. Is there any 1/72 111/5/50 series kits? Did Hasegawa ever do one? Revell? If the Hellers are a similar standard to their Viggen and Super Etendards they'd do fine. The Hi planes can be a bit difficult to build from some of the reviews I've read? The PJ kits are lovely but a bit too pricy for more than one kit. Matchbox? Airfix? PM? Pioneer? Saw these listed in Kingkits site. Any descriptions welcome.
  17. Thanks for the kind words. The story behind the Viggen scheme (the 1:1 scale) is here..... http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2000...o_redviggen.htm Don't know about the profile problem on the 1:48 kit, mine is the Heller 1:72. It is an AJS-37, an updated AJ-37. I know the JA-37 (the fighter version) has a small fuselage plug in between the canards and main wing (a-la SHAR FA.2). To be honest, in 1/72 scale you can't notice and I wouldn't bother. OOB bar decals, some plastic strip detailing added to seats. That's all. Full build logged on ARC in the Airfix/Heller GB.
  18. There once was a time when there was a Royal Navy. Stovl carriers? I can't for the life of me understand why they are not being built as conventional carriers with catapults and arresting gear. You can still fly Stovl aircraft from them but not catapult and hook planes from the opposite. Building them as 'Harrier Carriers' makes them useless to other types, if as has almost happened the F-35 does not make it over here, or does but only as a CTOL type. It's STOVL future is far from secure. Then you'll have two ships to sell to India for their Sea Harriers. And still no fixed wing AEW? The Navy seems to have a short memory. At least if they were built with cats and wires, you could use BAE built Goshawks for training and Rafales/F-18s as a stopgap until the F-35, or until a Naval Typhoon is developed. And why was this never done in the first place? When it was being developed, didn't they know the Sea Harrier was going to go someday? And I agree, Ark Royal should be there. Even though I'm not British or a royalist!
  19. I have the opposite problem. My Matt Cote (square glass bottle)stays tacky to the touch ( to the point of fingerprints appearing on my models months after). The bottle is about 5 years old, is that the problem? I've tried mixing with white spirit, Humbrol thinner, cellulouse and various mixes of all the above. Same result. I recently got the round glass bottle, is it the same stuff?
  20. Don't shoot me, it's not all I have, just all I have on photobucket.
  21. Looks real. Looks really real. Looks REALLY REALLY real. Except the stencils seem to be decals, and the paint has brush strokes. I emailed the publishers but waiting on a response. Anyone here know?
