Airfix Spitfire 22, 502 (Ulster) Sqn

Good job! I'm finishing one at the moment... -
Very good! Especially approve of the underside staining! Have lots of pics that show them much dirtier than that but have plucked up courage to go far enough myself! Yours looks just about right to me. Dave

Good job!

Agreed - excellent job. Also agree about the prop chipping - doesn't look right or convincing! Needs to be on the leading edge of the blade primarily since that's where all the wear would be. I would suggest respraying the prop and just adding very subtle chips on the leading edges - if at all, actually - and that would be a dramatic improvement! First class finish overall though! Dave

Stunning paint job!

Excellent build of a terrific aircraft!

Great work! I missed out on the Airfix Buc when it was available and I know the horror stories about it but, every time I see a great build like this, I want to build one!!

Beautiful looking model - the best looking Corsair in my opinion
-
Excellent build & beautiful painting!
-
Lovely! I have these decals in 1/48 and must make one like this!
-
That's lovely - really love that plane!
-
Thanks Dick - might even be Mk 22 to go with them! Dave

Yes, very good! I have one of these to build and will be aiming at a similar effect re the weathering! One comment, I've been looking at various sources on the web to check the cockpit colour and have come up with several different opinions! Did you find a source for the use of Aotake or did you just think it would look good (which it does!)? Most of what I could find seems to suggest either natural metal or some sort of grey-green similar to RAF interior green. I'd be interested to know. Japanese aircraft are still a bit of a mystery to me but I do love the possibility of all that lovely weathering!!

Nice!

Ah - that's because of the pics I took! I avoided looking at the undercarriage too closely! Actually, it's not that bad, but one leg is slightly out of line with the other when you look sideways on. One of the things I really hate about using superglue is that it either seems to go off instantly or, seemingly, doesn't want to go off at all - so I sit the holding both bits and then realise they are at the wrong angle. Very difficult with the u/c because I was trying to get it correct in three planes. Perhaps it's the brand I'm using - anyone out there have a favorite brand of superglue?? I was quite amazed that the damage was so slight in terms of appearance - a bit of touch-up around the rudder... Also, I don't know if this is a slight problem with the kit, but the u/c legs look a little short to me - the plane seems to sit a but to low on the ground to my eye... Dave

Very nice! -
Hi all, Here's my second Spit - this is Italeri's Mk XVIe (which I believe is the re-boxed Occidental kit?). Made from the box and using the kit decals. This represents TB702 from 340 Sqn (Free French Air Force) in Germany 1945. Quite pleased with how it came out. I believe there are issues with the Occidental kit and there are certain areas on this model that don't look quite right to me (non-expert that I am). But, overall, it looks like a Spit and that's good enough for me! Actually, it might have looked better. I was just being a bit picky and adding some extra exhaust staining when I knock the model off my Tamiya turntable onto the floor! Both u/c legs and the tailwheel broke off as did two of the propeller blades. Did I curse??? !!! After a few deep breaths I looked at the damage and it looked repairable. I pinned the u/c legs & superglued them back, same with the tailwheel. The prop blades had snapped off cleanly so a bit of glue & a touch up was all they needed. Unfortunately, I didn't get the sit of the u/c legs spot on before the superglue went off so it does look a bit strange from some angles!! Also just noticed - no navigation lights!!! Never mind - it's only a model!!! Moving onto the next - Airfix Mk 22 Comments welcome as always, Dave ps - Stu - I did take some pic with it on a base and it looked crap!!

I've discovered that True Details do a cockpit set and Hannants still have them - so ordered one today!! Is that what you used perhaps? Dave -

Great, love the scheme. I have one of these to do but it does need resin in the cockpit I think. What did you use?? Dave -

Beautiful! Love the scheme - I've never seen that before. I'm kicking myself now because my local model shop had one of these with £25 off for AGES and I knew it was a bargain but hadn't seen a scheme I liked enough to go & buy it. When I decided to bite the bullet it had gone of course! Nice tip about the exhausts - I use something similar building armour models for exhausts - works a treat! Dave -
Yes, agreed! Started to take some pics with it on a base but it didn't look right... D
