  1. Highly, highly recommended, great guy and decals. https://www.abovebelow.ca/product/633-dehavilland-dh-98-b-35-mosquito-spartan-air-services/429?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=133 And he has a ton of stuff to look at:... https://www.abovebelow.ca/
  2. Thanks all, At work setting up work station as we speak, (read...) I'm amazed at how many itty-bitty bottles of paint we absolutely must have. How many tweezers do we really need...... Building soon I hope.
  3. Not being rude, we've just been very busy in 2023. I could only build to the second week in March, after that everything was packed up. I've only just now in January of '24 been able to set up my work table again. I've still a ways to go set-up wise before I can actually build anything buts it's coming. I only completed 3 small models in '23 and then 1 biggy. Technically, they do not belong here in this forum but this is my old stomping ground so I'm posting here anyway. Eduad 1/48 triplane of Lothar von Richthofen. Eduard 1/48 triplane of Werner Voss. Fisher 1/24 Ferrari 512S. A quick build of an already started kit knowing packing was imminent. And my final big build for the year. Su and I have been looking for our retirement home for 3 years. Finding nothing we could use and with our entire country seeming to be drinking the cool-aid, we purchased 4 acres and headed for the hills to build our dream home. Broke ground in March. Foundation done and house set about August. Garage for my other hobby. Moved in end of November and settled in just in time for Christmas with all our kids and grandkids. Still boxes to unpack, walls to fill. Su and I are blessed, lucky, fortunate, extremely grateful and exhausted. No new models for sometime until we financially recover from this year, but I can root through my stash for a long time. I miss being here with people I've "known" for years and can't wait to get somewhat settled so I can get back to building much smaller things. Our very best wishes for health and happiness for the New Year. I hope to be back soon.
  4. Thanks everyone, I now have the pair together.
  5. Thanks All, Yes, I have every issue of MRRN. A very small niche of us for that magazine. Sadly, Michael Quarterman passed a few years ago, something I just found out a couple of weeks ago. I have several neat kits of his in the stash, perhaps I will do a tribute build to him. I hope someone took over his UMI decal business. Fisher kits can still be had online, I keep checking and buying the odd one I don't already have but I'm not paying the ridiculous prices they are sometimes asking. Glad you all enjoyed the weathering, most people seem to like only the nice, clean model car builds.
  6. Thanks All, Glad you enjoyed the weathered look, so many seem to prefer the nice, clean model car. All of my race cars are built "as raced". Don't know the next build is for me, packing and moving to Connecticut for good so i don't know how much down time I'm looking at. Humph......
  7. Build log here: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235123453-fisher-512s-1970-le-mans-124fini/#comment-4647171 I'm really chuffed with this. I'm glad I finally have it on the shelf.
  8. Thanks all, finished this up last night. I'm glad this is done after sitting for so many years with the wrong color.
  9. I can honestly say, this model is the longest time I've ever taken to build any one kit. Paul Fisher first did this kit about 1998 or so. I can't recall when exactly I got my resin kit but it is one of many of Paul's great resin kits from those days. Sadly, Fisher Model and Pattern is no more as Paul lost everything, his house, his work shop, everything in the California fires about 2014 and has not been able to return. I have a weak spot for the Le Mans race. I also enjoy the movie "Le Mans" with Steve McQueen. I have several models built that appeared in the movie and actually raced in the 1970 Le Mans that they used for much of the footage of the actual race. All the Porsche 917's and Ferrari 512S's are the real deal in the movie. The movie cars were decorated to resemble the actual cars in the race with often times the only difference being in the style of the number. I want to do this car as it appeared in the real race. The Fisher kit comes as the number 5 car driven by Ickx and with a different front clip than what I need. Sheet styrene and bondo to the rescue. A shot of the completed Fisher kit. But I need this. Bondo came out fine. I scrounged up all the different decals I needed. Painted with Testors Ferrari Red and then decaled. This was done in 2014 or 2015. All the while I'm looking at this thinking "This is the wrong red...." It's too bright. That is what prompted me to shelve it the first time. It was years later I found a company in Spain called "Le Mans Decal" that had the set I needed for the number 8 car. "Easy Off" oven spray is my go-to stripper. Repainted with Guards Red (I think) and new decals. I found better 70's tires from Model Factory Hero. I used the Fisher resin wheel, made a silicon mold and cast my own wheel/tire for the 512. That was in 2019. I don't recall what made me put it aside, perhaps some online group build. Anyway, it's back out and this time it's getting finished. As with most of us, time changes our shape. The resin engine cover was badly warped and twisted after so many years sitting in the box. Lots of fiddling , torquing and heat could not get it back to shape so I traced a new one out on some 15thou. sheet styrene and detailed it for interest. The one goof in the kit are the exhaust pipes included in the kit and are now missing anyway. Kit pipes were as included on this Fisher 312P I built years ago. These would never fit on the Codalunga. I found images of 512's and went to work. I was well pleased with how they came out and looked cool snaking out from under the long tail but I found nothing showing that the pipes were so long and that they all seem to terminate just after the gearbox so I trimmed them back to something more reasonable. Aligned the axles with the chassis, aligned the chassis with the body, aligned the wheels/tires with everything together. On its own feet for the first time. Headlights need to sparkle. A shame there isn't a better aftermarket for people that need headlights, appears MV Products is no more. I think it works. Not perfect but gives the right effect. I need duct tape for the headlight covers. I mixed up some red to match the LeMans printed decals and cut it into the appropriate width. I redid the printed tape areas with the duct tape for a little more accuracy. And did the headlights as well. Belt hardware I pinched from a Fisher 917 kit. Thanks for following along this far. More soon.
  10. Thanks everyone. I hope you experiment with my technique, it's easy and fast. I think I just sneak in a Nieuport 28 before packing....
  11. I built this as a 633 a/c, builds up great, you'll enjoy it. You're having too much fun with those belts.
  12. My third effort to get this Fokker streaking down and I think I got this. The exercise was to try and duplicate the Fokker effect without resorting to aftermarket decals. I wanted to be able use what we have available sitting on our work stations. Build log here: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=13610.0 Voss' 103 is well documented so I thought it would be a good test. Close enough. In hindsight, I planned on weathering back the fresh looking crosses but forgot until after the shoot. There is a lot that Eduard missed that I did not bother to fix, the cowl, the counter balance on the ailerons, something else I've forgotten. This was a test for streaking, not a perfectly accurate rendition of FI 103/17. Eduard 1/48 Dr1, Voss 103/17. Bottom shot. And the rest. [img:https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/thumbnail_-_2023-02-05T132718.874.jpeg[/img] I'm pleased with this, I hope everyone can now get the streaks they want without resorting to aftermarket. Three Tripes in a row is enough for me for now. Sadly, I have to pack up the shop and move to new digs as Su and I are building our retirement home. We'll be staying in my apartment while the construction is going on, I hope to not be too long away from the bench.
  13. Eduard 1/48 Dr1 of Lothar von Richthofen. I am trying to improve the streaking technique, I think I did improve. I added some Quinta 3D detail decals, some GasPatch 3D printed Spandaus (wonderful things) and some not-so-great Paddinghaus decals. Build log here: Ubiquitous bottom shot. And the rest. I want to do one more triplane to finalize my streaking technique, Voss's F1 103. I think I can make this work. Thanks for all your encouragement along the way !!!
  14. Well done/ Those olde kits can be great fun right out of the box or with a little help. I just finished up the Revell triplane. (But I helped it...)
  15. In an effort to improve my airbrush streaking, this was calling me... You all know the kit so no more need be said about that. I got the kit off Evilbay for cheap, already started and sans decals. Hard to find aftermarket decals that have the white border on the crosses. I will have to resort to the Paddinghaus sheet again. This time I found an additional sheet that has much better stenciling. Many interpretations on the www as to the yellow areas of this aircraft. All we have, to my knowledge, are the photos taken when he crashed. At first glance, the upper wing does look yellow but rooting around the www gives us better photos that shows more accurately the upper wing. A first for me, I found these a few months ago and figured I would give them a try. Some I could not use as this kit was already started but what I could use, I think looks great, most especially the belts, they even have the stitching on them. I also used the ignition switch, throttle lever and ammo counter. And of course, all covered up. Some more clean up tonight and then everything in fine white primer. Seems nobody can agree on exactly what was yellow and what wasn't on Lothar's tripe. The usually well researched Aviattic site lets you decide yourself... Comparing the background colors around the crosses I'm going with option three on the right. I then found this by Richard Alexander of WNW and posted on Face Book. WNW is certainly good enough for me.... I'm liking the streaking technique but I thought I could improve in several areas on MvR's 152/17. To that end I'm doing Lothar's tripe. I used my Fokker blue on the bottoms and experimented with Vallejo Med. Yellow out of the bottle. I think it's a little lemony. On 152 I learned it was difficult to hold and shoot. I made this little easel that worked perfect. Started with the bottom wing. I found it difficult to figure out where I was on the wing while painting so the mid wing I pre-streaked. Much easier. I think I can get away with even more pre-streaking. Easel worked well for holding the fuselage as well. I used a different green than the factory for the field corrections. I warmed up the yellow with a touch of red. Future next then.....well you know the drill.... All finished and post in "Ready for Inspection", Thanks for following along...
  16. Thanks everyone, looking forward to building with you all in the new year. Stay safe and healthy !!!

I've had a fantastic year building in the company of some great people here on this wonderful forum. To all of you I wish a safe, happy and productive year. My heartfelt thanks to all of you.
  18. Build log here: I know, "Not another one...." I think with some practice and more careful application, I can develop this as a viable method for Fokker streaking.
  19. After looking at triplanes for years, I've watched so many try different methods to try and get that Fokker look. As if it's not hard enough, the streaking on the same a/c can look very different. width=800 height=411https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-05_at_5.30.27_PM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] width=800 height=434https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-05_at_5.31.16_PM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] Some techniques seem to work better than others. When Aviattic came out with there streaking decals, I was struck at how airbrushed they looked. Airbrush alone won't do it. In many shots there seems to be a definite hard edge here and there. width=800 height=359https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-05_at_5.27.48_PM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] I'm experimenting but I think I'm pretty close to what I will use on my 152. My colors. I cut some clear plastic from a food container to use as a mask. Fokker wing streaking seem to be about 10 degrees. My faithful test mule was sprayed with the beige and then I used my go-to 34079 through the template. By moving and overlapping and going back I got this in one shot. I think I will still experiment with some sharp pencil lines here and there. width=800 height=500https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-05_at_5.27.13_PM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] width=800 height=455https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-05_at_5.28.31_PM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] And you can clean up the stencil and use again... I think this is close but I still need to tweak it some. I shot fine white primer over everything, then shot my recipe for Fokker blue on the bottom then masked. I then shot Vallejo 71.028 "sand yellow" as my base color. I then shot Vallejo 71.294 through a cut stencil. This is close. Some parts are better than others but by and large I think I can get this to be a viable way to replicate the Fokker streaking. width=800 height=419https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-08_at_11.34.24_AM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] width=800 height=456https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/jj307/Allanscott31/Screen_Shot_2022-12-08_at_12.46.27_PM.png?width=undefined&height=undefined&fit=bounds[/img] Things I learned: 1) I need to make a better, longer stencil. I worked, as the "real guy" did on the wings, from right to left. As I moved the stencil left, by the time I got to the left end of the wing, I now had 3-4-5 applications of paint built up on the stencil making for a wet, messy piece of plastic. I will cut a new stencil the full length of the upper wing.(I think..) 2) I was trying to be clever and thinned the 34079 with retarder and thinner. Next time I will just mix it my regular way so it dries quicker with less chance of smudging. 3) Important to know when to stop. I did the wings first, fuselage last. I realized I went too heavy with the streaking on the wings. The fuselage is about right coverage wise. I should have let more of the base show through on the wings. 4) You can see I got the stencil a little crooked on the right side, the left looks better straighter and with more base showing through. I'm not too concerned about my goofs on the top wing and horizontal stabilizer as they will be covered in red. I may try and fix the streaking on the right hand fuselage, I should figure out something to fix mistakes. Well, the Peddinghaus decals performed just as expected, not opaque white and out-of-register, pink crosses,..... whatever..... The "152" I pieced together from different sheets as the Peddinghaus sheet was totally the wrong font. Weathering and grunge. Kit just falls together. I think this side of the fuselage came out best, kinda choked on the wings. I will post more in the "Ready for Inspection" section.
  20. I am just about to start 152 myself with the Dragon kit. I am going with the "average truth" out there on the www and follow the Aviattic scheme....
  21. Thanks everyone, huge fun building this classic. Makes me rethink not building the Camel now....
