XV869 S.2D Embarked HMS Ark Royal - coded '020/R' on 6/10/1975, passed to RAF 27/11/1978 (Cruises: 1xHome & Mediterranean Sea + 1xAtlantic + 3xHome & Mediterranean Sea + 1xAtlantic) Airfix should have used this a/c for the RN decals and not the incorrect S.2C XV344 ones!

Just doing that one with the Magna resin kit - a lot of correction work needed, might have been better useing the Airways kit!

One problem with the decals, well RN anyway - XV344 was an S.2C not an S.2D and by 1975 it had been re-coded as 035R. If you want to use these decals, you have to add the missing vortex generator and use the early pylons and move their locations on the wings. XV344 was NOT Martel capable

Also, the first grey Tornadoes were GR.1Bs of 15 squadron. These were painted dark camouflage grey all over. The pilots commented that the colour was easy to 'eyeball' over the sea, so the DSG top colour was added.

I have put mine to one side, the canopy has put me off!

Wait until you fit the canopy, it's way undersized and does not sit high enough - a bit disapointing as mine was also frosted!

Thanks for the confirmation, had decided to go with these colours based on the photographs - just wanted to make sure she wasn't rolled out in DSG as I want to finish the model 'factory fresh'. Next question(s) - reg under port wing only? and yellow dotted wing and horizontal stab walkways?

Thanks Colin but what got me thinking as far as the undersides go, is the pod ( from a Victor) is Hemp/LAG and that makes the undersides look white. Also have a photo of the first flight and the she looks DG/DSG! Could the DSG have faded as with some Canberras?

Anyone know the correct colours for the grey/green cmouflage on ZA141? Would suspect DG/DSG/LAG but in some photographs, the colours seem to be DG/MSG and white undersides as per Victor K2s

Re-visited the B-58 and you are correct, I must have got a dodgy spec. when I scaled it the first time around! The instructions say it is 1/91 and the span works out at 1/91 and the fuselage 1/92 A collector once told me that Tamiya did a 1/100 C-130, anyone else know anything about this?

Don't hold your breath, I started it about five years ago!

Sea king is Tamiya, the F.27 is early Revell -might be 1/96, mine is KLM (not up to Doyusha quality but OK ) and the B-58 I have is bang-on 1/100 (I think the instructions state it is 1/97) and a nice kit for its age. Revell have boxed two B-58 kits over the years, their own and a Monogram (Aurora?) one (1/75?)

No, they both have their good points, I am kit bashing the two together - the Faller has a nicer canopy.
