  1. This week's edition -worth a look. https://jpcvanheijst.com/amazing-aviation
  2. Or mine for his exact words, but he did mention all the work on the refuelling probe before it went fixed.
  3. Bought my father Haynes Buccaneer book for Christmas as he worked on the flight test development team. Speaking to him the other day, he went on about all the work that was done, for so little carrier time! One of his jobs was painting the tyres white, prior to a test flight, so that the tyre manufacturer could work out loadings.
  4. Sea King helicopter transformed into glamping pod - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-37791901 Rather unfortunate I thought.
  5. 2 Hurricanes over halifax today 5.4pm ish. As I am not up to speed with Internet tracking has anyone any further details?
  6. For what it's worth nikon only charged me £32 inc carriage for removing dust from a zoom lens. Quick & simple service. I paid by PayPal & have my work address set up as a delivery address so it was nice & easy.
  7. Found myself a bottle of diet ginger ale today in M&S Corton Wood. Which after a whole week of waiting for Asda Halifax to be restocked was quite a relief.
  8. In the media people go on about not using Adobe products, as they are now subscription only, ie monthly payments but PC World sell them for a single payment so I am confused. I am trying to get a program called Luminar to work on an Apple computer, bought off a work colleague. Presently stumped by Apple & I think it's because I have not bought it new. Colleague is getting it back on Monday to sort it out!
  9. I was into flying models and always remember a copy of Aeromodeller magazine with "Power Crisis Issue! "added to the cover, from the early seventies. Might still have it!
  10. Drove past the entrance to Scampton a number of year's ago & it looked dilapidated then, so I think it always was going to happen. Surprised by the closure of Linton, as a North Yorkshire lad, the sound of those Tucanos is constant in the week. Plus saving 3 billion over 22 years ! ?
  11. Miles Messenger looks ace & I wonder what the low wing monoplane is? (Just before the Dakota shots)
  12. Thankyou for your kind words Houston! If you click on the pictures it leads you to a few more. It was my aim to get some classic shots which Shuttleworth is famous for.The Spitfire landing over the hedge & the house in the background which even my wife appreciated !!! Hope you are keeping well! Regards Roy
  13. Quite remarkable seeing the Mew Gull & being able to speak to the pilot who lifted the canopy to see the stark simplicity of it Last saw it in the hanger at Breighton 2003 with the wings & cowling off, but I had never seen it fly before. Such a unique thing to see historic aircraft operating off a small grass strip
  14. I was quite relieved that Shuttleworth is still the same, having not visited for a number of years. Well worth a visit so long as the weather allows.
  15. Nothing special - bit embarrassing standing there surrounded by all that superior gear! Nikon D5500 crop sensor & Nikon 55-300 DX lens. However a lot of people manage with old Bridge cameras so I think the better gear just makes things easier? Shot in manual mode & just tried different things. The light was quite variable but a bit of sunshine makes all the difference
  16. Enjoyed a trip to Shuttleworth this weekend. Journey from hell as the A1 was closed for roadworks but saw some nice countryside!
  17. Jealous not going & missing the P-47!
  18. Regarding the engine intakes, I have a copy of the 2013 publication "Build & Convert No3"-SAM Publications. Page 91 "resin parts way too small, and without major reshaping of the fuselage would not fit. I resorted to using the kit intakes, scratch building inlet trunking and supplementary intake doors from plastic card." Author Tony Gloster. Not stopped me from buying one though! I am wondering if packing them out from the fuselage side would help?
  19. I investigated my own kit over Christmas as a possible 2018 project. One BM post sticks in my mind regarding this kit, in that a chap recommended an unusual order of assembly for this kit. Might have been starting off with the upper surface of the wing & assembling the rest of the model around that? I will watch with interest!
  20. Handheld shooting. I will try multiple focus points next time but was not sure if mutiple aircraft confused the af. At the armed forces day I struggled with blur free shots of a hovering coastguard helicopter! I was using 1/125 shutter speed to keep the tail rotor blurred (any faster would have frozen it) & wil try manual focus next time. Jinxman your link was most interesting & it did ocurr to me, that I once dropped my camera badly & I wonder if the shock has affected the calibration?
  21. The "Spitfire" did not show up at Scarborough as promised at 1.00pm but LF363 did half an hour later. The change was due to mechanical issues. Better pictures on Twitter "BBMF Fighter Pilot" for the aircraft
  22. We had quite a treat at Scarborough Armed Forces day when the promised Spitfire 1.00pm did not show but the BBMF Hurricane did half an hour late Plus the Red Arrows Falcons & the RNLI did a bit of winching with the new look coastguards helicopter.
