About Me
Hello, I started model making when I was about 6 or 7 (early 70's) when my Granddad worked at Hornby. Triang it was called then. He worked in the mold room where Frog kits were produced. Every week he would bring one home to me and I would attempt to put it together, sometimes I would use the instructions, but being a boy, I knew everything!
I remember the Shakleton was huge and I think I actually finished it, though it probably lasted half an hour untill things fell off.
Ever since, my love for this hobby has grown, though I doubt I will build all of my stash but I guess that applies to all of us.
I did contribute to S.A.M as a reviewer but that was pre-internet and computer years so it was a very laborious and expensive undertaking. No digital pictures, the cost of film, processing, postage, using a typewriter to send reviews but I did enjoy it perversly.
About 15 years ago we had a house fire, though my (now ex) wife and kids were fine, all of my made models, stash, reference books and tools were all lost BUT it gave me perspective and that it's only a hobby and life is more important.
I have noticed over the years the quality and accuracy of models has gone up in leaps and bounds, but so has the price and I'm always getting told off by my now girlfriend 'why don't you make the one's you've already got before you buy a new one'. Yep! she's got me.
Anyway, this is a short introduction to me, I also like photography but thats for another web site.
Thanx for looking Mark
