Ok I didn't read ALL the posts. But: I know and agree about getting it right the first time, etc. Well guys, Revell has made a new tool of this legendary aircraft with faults/errors. What is done, is done. Revell will NOT retool the whole thing. So let's accept it as it is: a flawed but inexpensive kit. My suggestion: IMHO, instead of wasting time with negative comments or condemning this kit as "unbuildable", do like Ian did on the Revell 1/32 UHU: Suggest "possible" errors and find or propose fixes and apply them! Look at his results! All the power to him! We are all modelers so: 1- do some research 2- point out the issues 3- do a tweak list 4- apply our skills to fix the issues and have a good time doing it. Isn't that what we are all about??? I suggest that we should restart a new thread with all the good info provided (item 1 and 2) and do that tweak list (item3) and show our results (item 4) Does this sound reasonable to you?

Another modified pic from Muzz to better understand what I mean by "offending depression": Just my interpretations/analysis of all the pics above and others on the net... And my proposed fix. Hope this helps to understand what I mean!
-
Quote m3bobby: Thanks for the info!Yes, looks like the area is more appropriate for a GR4 with the modified precooler and exhaust that is about ½” wider on each side, not for an early GR1. You can clearly see the transition fron front to back changes because of the extra width which seems to match the one on the kit But it doesn't explain the offending "depression" above the transition I mention on the kit which is not present on any pics, may it be GR1 or GR4... IMHO. Here's your pic which I added the affected area in green: Here's a modified pic from Muzz (thanks Muzz) I put the offending areas in red and dark red for a better visual undertanding... Check this on the kit: So I guess there's a little fixing/milliput required for a GR4 and alot of fixing for an early GR1 (I would imagine this was retrofitted to later birds) Alley Cat-Barracudacast-Quickbost or anybody could step-up... Resin correction needed for at least an early GR1 since the fix for late GR1/GR4 is easy. What do you guy's think? Thanks everyone for chiming in! Very appreciated!
-
Thank you Bill for confirming that the part needs beefing up with Milliput. I guess I wasn't dreaming... It looks like the person who cut the molds misinterpreted the CADs. These things happen, unfortunately... The rest of this kit is amazing! Worth more than I paid, in my honest opinion! This incident is just a speed bump to overcome in the building process of this kit, that's all! Off to work I go!

Well, has anybody confirmed this yet? Seems to me this "error" is worst than the same error in that area on the Italeri kit, which if I recall, stirred up quite a "Tornado" in a drinking glass. (pun intended) Can anyone check their paragon correction and compare it with the Revell kit please? I unfortunately don't own this so cannot confirm exept with photos. Alley Cat might "step up" or any other resin manufacturer. I myself will use milliput and rescribe and also add the missing panel lines.

I mention this in the thread for the nose issue: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234962808-new-revell-148th-tornado-nose-issue/page-2?hl=tornado So since we were on the topic of major corrections of the Revell Tornado, I wanted to point this out and decided to start a new thread to ask if this can be confirmed: Have you noticed the large deformation on the leading edge of the base of the fin? As if someone crushed it with their thumb? Here are some pics to illustrate what I mean: Maybe I'm wrong, but I guess we might have to slap on some epoxy putty... I am not slamming the Revell kit, which is by far the best 1/48 Tornado, but Italeri also got this section wrong and Paragon sold a resin correction. I think the same is needed for this kit. Can anybody else confirm this?

New Revell 1/48th Tornado - Nose issue?
Adats-Coyote replied to AnonymousAA72's topic in Aircraft Modern
Not to hijack this thread... On the topic of major corrections of the Revell Tornado, have you noticed the large deformation on the leading edge of the base of the fin? As if someone crushed it with their thumb? Should look like this: Guess we have to slap on some epoxy putty... I started a new thread concerning this issue: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234963392-new-revell-tornado-tail-issue/?p=1670612 -
Mirage F1CR, Kitty Hawk, 1:48
Adats-Coyote replied to mathy's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thonk...... Jaw droping stuff! Amazing work! Well done! -
Fusion Models is working on a 1/32 scale resin kit. I've seen the masters and helped in the research. We have visited 2 Vampires here in Canada, measured and photographed them extensively. Alain has been working on this for the better part of 10 years but ETA is unknown. If you have seen the quality of his other resin products, (Ta-152 C 1/48 conversion for example) it's worth the wait and you can expect an awesome kit!

1/72 - Lockheed-Martin F-35A Lightning II by Hasegawa - released

Pics and instructions available here: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10262266 -
I am happy about the parts breakdown and the "possibility" of a B or D. I hate to spoil our joy but both their 1/48 and 1/32 kits have the same breakdown and have been out for a few years now... And we are still waiting for that elusive two seater...

Revell 1:32 He219 "UHU"
Adats-Coyote replied to Iain Ogilvie's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Bravo! Well done! I simply love it! -
Any news about when it will be available? I also plan at least 2 B's and will wait for a couple of RF also! MMMmmmmmm Voodoo!

Revell's (not so) new 1:32 He 219 "UHU"
Adats-Coyote replied to Iain Ogilvie's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Excellent! The corrections you made are skillfully meshed with the original kit! You Da Man! Can I imitate your finish, since I'm doing the same aircraft in British markings??? Please please please! Anyways very nice work! I applaud you sir! Here is mine at the moment: Painted-on roundels I have added the yellow surround on the bottom ones and fuselage ones but I really don't know if the top ones had them... Maybe some of you knows the answer? Again Bravo on your nice work! -
I have not read all of your previous comments so I apologize if this has already being said... The F-104 is one of my all time favorites: For example, I have 14 1/48 scale F-104 from Hasegawa out of a total of 25 F-104 related kits in my collection in different scales. So lets just say this kit from Italeri WAS on the top of my "to get" list. I can get this kit for around 150$ CAD (75 pounds) Should we be picky ? At this price, IMHO, yes. Should we be disappointed? At this price, IMHO, yes. For example, Tamiya's Corsair sells for about the same price here in Canada... and it redefined the standards for model airplanes in 1/ 32 ... IMHO, at the same price, Italeri's 104 does not offer much that's new ! Although to make the "S" version it is the best : -Martin- Baker Seat -Larger S type intake (but epic fail for the auxiliary intake doors - possible rescribe?) -Additional ventral Wings of "S" included -Aspide (European Sparrow ) -MLG bulged doors But for the rest (CF-104 , F-104G , F-104J ) it is not really better than the other kits ... Ok the Electronics bay behind the pilot was not done by Hasegawa, but Italeri's is too basic... I took out my Hasegawa kit and I thoroughly examined it and compared it to the Italeri kit photos: -M61 Vulcan: not better than Hasegawa's ... -J79 not much better than Hasegawa's ... The only "fault" apparent (if you can call it that) with Hasegawa's is the raised panel lines. Hasegawa cockpit is basic but Squadron offers a good resin cockpit (true details ) for $ 15 The Hasegawa kit plus True details cockpit have cost me around $ 60 in total ... I will not buy the Italeri kit to replace it at $ 150... Re - scribe the Hasegawa kit to my taste = 4 hours. The Italeri kit is engraved but not perfectly , is that the worth $ 90 more? The right fuselage ingraving does not match the left side????? Unforgivable for ANY kit manufacturer The scribing issue is kind of a deal breaker for me. Ok lookwise the Hasegawa canopy might be too wide by 1 mm and a bit flat? Not sufficient to make a case ... 150$ for Italeri AND you must purchase at minimum correct resin wheels so an ADDITIONAL $ 15... For me it's not worth the price of $ 150. I might consider it at 70-75$ (half of what they are asking for it now) I guess It is up to all of us to decide if it is worth it !

I can only imagine the Zoukei Mura treatment on a 1/32 Horten... Right up their alley! All that interior detailing visible from even a closed canopy... Full Engines easily displayed, without having to glue anything closed or break up the lines of the aircraft!!!! I will buy at least 2 for sure! (I can't stop drooling! , my house is flooding! )

Well, in my honest opinion, every subject that everyone mentioned here is worthy of a new mould by Airfix! And at the rate they are popping new kits out, I think almost every suggestion will be done by 5 or 10 years from now! BUT: Can I add my 2 cents? Sci-Fi: 1- Re-tooled Space 1999 vehicles in 1/72 or new moulds in 1/48 2- Re-tooled 1/72 or new 1/48 (not 1/100) Angel Interceptor both from the original (and maybe new series). Even in 1/32 it would be nice. 3- Actually anything in any scale that is a Gerry Anderson related subject. 4-I would really love Starbug in spaceship or "car"(Smart) form! 5-Anything from any British Sci-Fi Aircraft: 1- Dare I say BEAUFIGHTER? - I have multiples of the Tamiya (1/48) and Hasegawa (1/72). They're nice but I feel an Airfix effort would be better and less expensive. Definitely need one in 1/32! 2- Dare I also say PHANTOM FGR? - I have multiples of the Hasegawa (1/48) and 1 Fujimi (1/72) but same opinion as the Beau... Also 1/32 would be nice! 3- Any re-tool of their old moulds. Of any of their subjects. Scale all of them up or down or which ever way you feel... Armour: Anything modern in 1/48!!!!!! (They can practically "own" that segment of the market!) Ships: Anything in 1/350!!!!! Cars: Anything British in 1/24!!!!! Did I forget something???? I hope not... Please please please Mr. Airfix... make us modelers happy!

So what's the BIG Airfix announcement at Telford going to be?
Adats-Coyote replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
Well, I'm sitting here in front of my computer, wishing that I could afford being at Telford... Paying for the trip across the pond and lodging etc... So I will still sit here in front of my screen, here in Montreal, Canada snif snif... And patiently await the magic announcement. Sorry,I will not make any predictions, say any of my preferences. (Dare I say "Beaufighter??" wink wink ) In my honest opinion, anything new Airfix releases is a godsend to our hobby! Airfix, under new and wise management (Hornby), has, in these economic hard times, made profits, invested and grown their lines of products. They also have a very good marketing strategy and kept their prices down so we consumers can afford them! This strategy has prooven successful. Companies like Airfix, Revell Germany, Zoukei-Mura, Meng, Kitty Hawk, Kinetic and Tamiya, by making hype about their product and creating all this buzz can only be positive for us! These are companies to be praised for their way of doing things. Other companies should take note of their successes (Airfix's especially) and "imitate" them! Also, at Airfix prices, if it's in plastic, any subject, any scale will do. Long life to Airfix! -
I second that!!!!! With the aforementioned 1/72 McDD Phantom F-4K/M (Fg1/FGR2) 1/72 Blackburn Buccaneer S1/S2 (New tooled) 1/72 DH Sea Vixen FAW2 (Down scaled from their 1/48 beauty!) And my own thoughts (kits I would buy in a SNAP and multiples of...): 1/48 Gnat 1/48 Tucano T1 1/48 T-50 Pak-Fa (Well one can dream!) 1/48 Hawk 200 1/48 Scimitar 1/48 Spitfire XIV 1/72 Meteor Family 1/72 Vampire/venom Family 1/72 Javelin 1/72 Scinitar 1/144 E-3 Sentry 1/144 C-130 Family 1/144 Vulcan 1/144 Victor 1/144 Nimrod 1/144 B-1B 1/144 A330 MRTT 1/144 KC-46 1/144 P-8 1/144 E-737 Wedgetail 1/144 Sentinel 1/144 Comet

Danny Coreman (DACO) has said that he worked closely with Italeri during the making of his book on the Starfighter... I have the book and it's amazing! In my honest opnion, If someone knows his F-104's it's him... So I doubt there will be any "major" faults. Maybe some CAD caused glitches but no major ones. No kit is perfect but I'm expecting "near" perfect. Look how he's handled the 1/48 F-104 Update set he will probably release before the end of the year... Perfectionist to the end! See here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/624633/message/1380521987/more+progres+with+DACO+F-104+set and here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/624633/message/1379682533/spure+from+the+second+test+shot+of+DACO+correction-upgrade+set+for+1-48+STARFIGHTERS and finally here: http://ultra.glo.be/daco/KDCC4802pictures.html I am in no way associated with DACO, just giving my opinion... In the end I'm not worried. And will be buying a couple. Compared to what we have in 1/32 from Hasegawa and Revell, it will be a 1000% improvement!

France Modern Camouflage: Thanks to the old trusty FS Fan Deck! Click on link for the FS Matches: http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=37030+30145+34110 The Humbrol mixes given above are pretty good ( thanks David ) But if you are using Tamiya, here are the colours I used and suggest: Black -- XF-69 -- 37030 add a drop of blue and a drop of red to 1 bottle (brings out that weird "purple" tint) Brown -- XF-52 -- 30145 exact match Green -- XF-5 -- 34110 exact match In the end, these are guideline that you can use, the choice of what works best for you (through your eyes) is yours! Hope that Helps! Have Fun!

Very nice! Just like the next one I want to build! Thanks for the inspiration, your build look quite the part! Love the panel! Very well thought out and logical.

Super info! Just what I needed! Thanks Wez! And YES!!!!! AIRFIX!!!! CAN YOU HEAR US NOW???? We want a new tooled series of 1/72 Meteors (and maybe a few 1/48 ones...)

Contemplating starting a Meatbox collection in 1/72 but dont know where to start... Especially the F-8! With all those nice Xtradecal sheets! What are the best, what fixes/improvements can I expect... Need your expert advice guys!

I agree 1000%! The A/C's paved the way for the rest. Anyways the A/C has that Gerry Anderson's "Thunderbirds" look i.e. scifi-ish! IMHO it's the sexiest of the bunch with the others having a more "rugged look". I will probably get 1 or 2 but would also like to see these in 1/72 also (then I would buy 4 or 5!).
