    Hello Chris,

Great job on your Bearcat !

What are the cowling modifications required ?

Did you have a WiP for this kit ? I have an hobbycraft kit and a Testors one too.

I think of starting it next year so every tip is valuable to me !

Really love this little brute of a Navy bird and you make her Justice !! :partytime:

    Sincerely.

    Hi Corsaircorp,

Thanks for the feedback! In answer to your question about the cowling, it’s explained in the first picture of this posting (not mine):

Nothing a bit of sandpaper can’t handle! That WIP thread also shows mods to the engine bay similar to mine. Looking forward to seeing your Bearcat! :)

  2. Hi folks I present my latest finished projects, a couple of Burma-based RAF aircraft.

The Hurricane belongs to No.34 Squadron RAF and is the Hasegawa kit with resin control surfaces, Eduard seatbelts and spares box decals.

Next is a Curtiss Mohawk Mk.IV of No.5 Squadron RAF. It's the Hobbycraft kit with resin wheels, Squadron canopy, Eduard belts and Aeromaster decals. The engine is from the Tamiya Buffalo.

  3. I brought some of my older Spitfire builds out of storage recently to find that the had suffered quite a bit of hangar rash! I therefore decided to give them new paint schemes and decals.

First up is the Special Hobby Vc, formerly in malta markings now in 54 Squadron RAF colours based in Australia during 1943.

Next is the Hasegawa IXe using the Aeroclub fuselage, repainted in a different iteration of its previous Czech AF scheme.

Last up is the Airfix/Aeroclub Mk.21, previously overall Silver CAACU and now in 41 Squadron markings at Lubeck, 1946.

  4. One I finished a while back but never bothered posting, the Hobbycraft Bearcat in 1/48. I modified the cowling profile a little, added some detail to the wheel bay and used Microscale decals. Fun kit, so good I went and bought two more afterwards! 😀😀

  5. You, sir, are a gentleman! Thanks for the link!

Interestingly enough it looks like the kit is tooled as a straight Mk.V. For the Mk.II it will need entirely new wings and fuselage, great if they choose to do it that way as it means less gaps to fill which is the curse of modular kits. If not then I’ll be hacking my old tool kits up accordingly!

My Academy XIV and Falcon XVIII builds are all but finished and, as I don’t have any other desired paint schemes I’d like to do, I hope you’re all happy!

I’m excited to see more of this kit.

I’ve just bought a Falcon XVIII and also an Academy XIV that I planned to kitbash with an Airfix 22 fuselage so it looks like we’ve both done the modelling world a favour! 😂

I’ll probably still buy a couple of these though! 😈

  7. Thank you guys!

Frank the SH kit is ok, lovely detail especially in the cockpit but the fit can be a little tricky especially around the cowling bulges and the wing roots. I shortened the gear legs a bit as otherwise it looks too “stalky” and replaced the canopy with the falcon vacform. The decals came from Aeromaster 48-697:

Overall I think that the SH kit is better shaped than the bloated Airfix Spitfire XII that you would have to convert otherwise. Interestingly my Spit XII you see in the pictures is the Airfix nose grafted onto a lengthened Hasegawa fuselage, the Airfix one being much too tall for my liking!

  8. My latest two completions, the Airfix Seafire FR.47 and the Special Hobby Seafire XV. The Airfix kit used the BarracudaCast propeller and seat, Squadron Canopy and Aeromaster decals for 800 Squadron in 1949. The Special Hobby kit was pretty much OOB with Aeromaster decals for 803 Squadron RCN in 1947. Vallejo paints used throughout.

I've included shots of the Seafire 47 with the Spitfire I, the Seafire XV with its close relative the Spitfire XII and with its replacement in the RCN, the Sea Fury. As usual, please excuse the dust and the poor photography!

    Thanks for looking!
