Hello, on FW190 with wing drop tanks we also can see this rods. In this case it was a optical indicator for the pilot. My understandig is that the pilot from the cockpit can not see the tanks, he can only see the rods. If he dropped the tanks and he can not see the rods anymore he can be sure that the tanks are really dropped and not again under the wings about an technicaly malfunktion. This problem maybe on the Bf109 to. I am not sure, but I think they are on some Ju87 R too. I have that info from a book in german : Dietmar Herman, Focke-Wulf Fw190 F und G Hope it helps Claus

Hi, do a google search with re2002 limognes romanet. Under pictures you will find some from the restored fuselge of red5 from Geschwader Bongart. An article in the old german modell magazine Jet & Prop No. 5/1992 give for this plane a top colour of dark green and for the underside a light blue with a yellow touch. There is unfortunaly no mention about the origin of the colours, german or italien or a mix. A colour pic of the restored fuselage in the Jet&Prop article looks to me like a colour close to Colore 2 Verde Oliva Scuro. A screenshot from an VHS on my PC from the same film as the pic of BN+YB show this aircraft from the front and give me the impression that the yellow underwing colour goes only up to the landing gear covers. The rest of the wing and the fuselage are a light colour. Hope it helps Claus

Hello, I am more on the aircraft modelling side, but now I think a Ford truck as a stand by to a norwegian Caproni is nice. Unfortunally I was unable to find any information about the colours and markins on vehicles ot the norwegian armed forces up to a time before the german invasion. I have only two pics from the net wich show some german captured ex norwegian trucks in black and white. These in an uniform colour painted trucks are in original norwegian paint or repaint in Panzergrau, I don`t know. The Ford Truck that had my attention is a Barrel Nose type and had a double cabin. Can it be possible that it is an ex french or british type. Both countys are engaged with troops against the german invasion. Any help will be great wellcome. Claus

Hello, I think the latest news about RLM83 Dark Blue are in the new book from AK. Real Colors of WWII-Aircraft. Now a original recipe of this color was found and Mr. Jürgen Kiroff, the well known Co Author from Mr. Merrick`s last Luftwaffe books, had mixed a color sample to this recipe. So I think the best is to buy a bottle of AK Real Colors RLM83 as a sample. I will go this way, using the AK RLM83 as a master and try to mix my own in enamel paint. In the book is a printed sample but I found no usefull match in FS, RAL or BS standards. Hope it helps Claus PS Up to date I was not able to buy one.

Hello Finn, Ian K. Baker in his -RAAF Spitfires Camouflage Special- has A58-254 as an profile and give the same colours for it. Also his impresson is that the airplane was polished. Have a look in the Spitfire Markings of the RAAF Part 1, Smith&Pentland under the pic of A58-254 is a pic from BR539 in desert camo. The Mid Stone is in his greyscale not so far away from the lighter colour of A58-254. So I think Light Earth can it be. The camouflage pattern on the fuselage follows only very loosley the factory drawing so a repaint in Australia is a possibility. That is only my impression and I hope someone with moore knowledge will jump in. Best regard Claus

Hello Peter, in April 2014 Nick Millman in his Bloc show a Fuller paint chart. One colour was : One Coat Enamel TL-8703 NS Light Gray. Do you think that this is the underside colour for the Martin bomber ? The Milk White for the flying boat underside was DuPont 71-021 Sky Type S gray. In the caption he writes:" ...white aeras around the engine cowlings were treated with special heat reflecting paint. Hello, Michael Ullmann in his german edition of his book about the Luftwaffe colours give for the Do 24 K with date from 4.Oct. 1937 a coat of DKH Ölgrund grün L40/41 as a primer with the 2. coat as DKH Nitrodecklack Silber L40/51. I am not 100% sure, but I remember to read somewere that the floor was coverd with Linoleum. A word to the beaching trolly on my modell. This is a pure product of my fantasy. I think the Dutch have lost such equipment on there return to Australia. So the australiens must be done some improvisations for beaching the Dorniers. It is made from same plastic profiles and wood. The wheels are from a Hasegawa Mavis and spare. My knowledge about the mistakes on the modell are from an article in the old german Modell Magazin No.12-1978 and No.1-1979, done by Karl Kössler. Hello Stephen, some years back I was also doing a RAAF Dornier. The Italeri Kit has some mistakes that will be corrected for all versions. The front turret must be moved 3 mm back, the Flossenstummel, the little wings on the waterline, I don't know the english word, must be 2 mm thicker and then bring to shape, the tailend must be widend by 1,5 mm to fit the turret and the complet tailplane is set 2 mm higher. Also the double fin and rudders are to small and must be corrected. The rescue hatches for for the T version are on the wrong place and must only on the left side in flight direction. The bulleyes must be a little higher and the missing entry hatch willalso scatch built. The engine mounts are also 2 mm too short. Also are missing the external reinforcing stipes and other small items. The flap hinges are a little to small. The ailerons must be corrected to look moore like the "Spaltklappen". To built a Dutch/RAAF Dornier we must also built a new cowling, the fairing from the middle engine on top of the wing must go more far back and we have 2 landing lights. The Dutch also can have some bomb racks. For the verion with 3 identicel ALCAN turrets the opening for the middle one must be reduced in diameter. Reading all that you will be give up before starting. But most corrections are not a big task and the endresult is in every way a big improvment over the original kit. I have built my Modell from an original first edition. Your Edition have a much better interior. If the hatches on the cockpit are closed, you will see not so many from it. Hello Mitch K in an old Scale Aircraft Modelling Vol.7. No.2 Ian Huntley give Red Sand Methuen 7E5 and FS30117, Dark Red Sand 7F4 and FS30108 and for DArk Sand 5E3 and FS 34128. He writes that FS30117 and 30108 are very aproximate. FS34128 is far away to the 5E3. Maybe it is a printing error. I can only give some Hombrol mixes I had made for me. Dark Sand Humbrol 72+33, Red Sand Humbrol 186 and Dark Red Sand Humbrol 98+133. Hope it helps Claus

Hello, in - The Royal Air Force of World War Two in Colour - by Roger A. Freeman on pages 2,52,56 and 126 we can see some Spitfire interior colour. It is my personal feeling that there are different shades and that there are lighter as Humbrol 78. Can someone cive a comment on the code letter on page 56? when the letter is Sky we have a direct comparison to the colour on the entry door. Only my guess Claus

Thank you for answering Nick, when I made this little paint mixing exercise some years back, I was also able to discuss this with Jürgen Kiroff and Michael Ullmann. They also came to the conclusion that the mixing of 7122 and 7160 is not possible because of the different chemie. The mixing of the different colours from 7160 to a new one is possible, because they have the same chemie. But I have never said that it was done by the Luftwaffe. I wrote this allways to avoid that same hypotetical thoughts from me are sometimes from someone are interpreted as real. It is possible that at some point the RLM stoppt all such paintings with in the field mixed or not for the specific aircraft typ specified ( RLM 70-71 are at that time not specified for fighters ) colours. I have never seen a pic of Fw190A-8 or Me109G-5 in similar paint schemes. But the Luftwaffe was also on the East Front by the introduction of these Modells moore and moore on the defensive. There was maybe no time for such exclusive paint schemes. The Sammelmitteilung you mention above are not for the Luftwaffe Units but for the aircraft manufactures. This was done to prevent a break in the production process. I have read somewhere ( can be a Aeromaster Decal Sheet, I'm not sure) that Jg54, when it converted from Me109 to Fw190 in Feb.1943 received his new machines painted on the upperside in permanent white. If this is right, then we have here the case that an extra wish from the Luftwaffe brings a break to the production run. Claus

Hello, please keep in mind that the germans are very pedandic with the application of colours to the aircraft. Have a look to the L.Dv521/1 and you know what I mean. With the introduction of the L.Dv521/1 from Nov. 1941 the main colour for metall aircraft was Flieglack 7122. Fabric covert parts painted in Flieglackkette 20. Markings are made with Flieglack 7160.21 to 7160.27. These are the colours Black, White, Blue , Yellow and so on. Now we must have a look at the thinners. Flieglack 7122 have thinner 7200.00 and the Flieglack 7160 colours are thinned with 7232.00. So it is doubtful that these we can mix these two Flieglack together. But Flieglack 7160 is interesting because it ia applicable on all surfaces. Some time back I have made some trials with mixing the colours avialable in Flieglack 7160 and was surprised how easy it was to get all such colours seen in the well known colour photos published all around. Also it is possible to mix these colours to shades similar to RLM 80,81,82and 83. Below are some examples from my mixes. In daylight there are moore closer as shown on the pics. About the sand colour like RLM79 we must be remember that this colour can be surely obtained over the normal supply line to Russia. But that all needs time. But all these colours are applied under a tactical pressure and are needed know and not weeks later. The use of colours from other countries like Russia or Finnland can be ruled out because of the pedandic application instructions in the L.Dv. wich clearly says what was for what surface and which colour can applied over an pre existensed colourcoat. To be clear. All these are my personal guess. But the marking colours are on hand by the frontline units and can be applied over the pre painted factory colours with no problem.
