Yep. Beacon have them on their website, Hannants stock them and King Kit also stock them.
Thanks, Adam. I went, I saw, I bought.

Are the BoB kits available yet?

And here are some shots of it basically complete:
Still to do are the antennas, fin-mounted Pitot tube, nose guns and the transparent 'roof' part on the rear fuse.
I will post some glamour pics in RFI of the more complete model (given I've lost the roof part 🙄) and will embed a link to this build thread.
Thanks for watching!

Neutral grey?

A bit later, I found that I had mislaid the kit decals, so I removed the yellow nose and decided to use AM decals instead. The particular aircraft in the decals had overpainted the upper half of the invasion stripes. I therefore did the same, and it looked I wasn't convinced:
However, I went ahead and applied the decals to see if that improved the look at all:
Erm, no.
More tomorrow.

I then added a support strut to the front gear leg. I had to adjust the length of the strut to get the correct nose up stance of the kit, and the forward rake of the nose gear.
You can see here that I have added the exhaust fairings. These were made by heat-forming a thin sheet of plastic by applying a heated round file to the sheet. I used a template from the SH kit to place them.

I decided to ignore the turbocharger inlet shape issue and just went with the kit interpretation; it's not like they're the most obvious characteristic of the aircraft. The exhaust fairings were merely ignored for now. I added a nice base of Tamiya white base and masked up the invasion stripes:
After adding the black, I then thought I'd try some pre-shading prior to brushing the camo. Like so:
I then started the camo scheme, beginning with the neutral grey (thinned xtracrylics). This is after the first coat:
More tomorrow.

So, I missed the end of this GB by quite a long way! I was put off as the turbocharger intakes looked completely the wrong shape and I couldn't see how to improve them. Also the exhaust fairings on the cowlings needed replacing and the work to replace them put me off. I then got distracted by other concerns. However, late in '22 I picked up the model again and continued it . . .

Just checked my ropey reference and, according to it, the Mk II has the extended tailplane chord; I think the glazing could be masked appropriately, which just leaves the tail turret. I wonder if the Lanc's would be appropriate? I'll hit google and see

In fact, I'm not a Wellington expert, but I remember "roughly" that apart from the engines, propellers and spinners, there are significant differences in the fuselage sides glazing, a different rear turret and an increased chord of the horizontal stabilizer.
Cheers

Thanks for responding even with the rubbish thread title.
OK, seems sensible. Ta!

Someone above asked about the problem with the Otaki Thunderbolt: the entire rear fuselage is over-inflated, as if someone's taken a bicycle pump to it. While I hesitate to say "nothing is uncorrectable" the amount of labour required would be huge as it's a complete re-contouring of everything aft of the cockpit.
Dang! One of those times where ignorance was bliss. Now I've got even less inclination to finish it.

Aeroclub made a resin correction set giving the full wing underside. It's clearly oop but they come up on ebay every now and then. Agree with an earlier poster about the fabric control surfaces. Not very obvious but could do with addressing
Finally, I perceived subjectively that the nose lacked 'heft' in plan view over the exhausts, so I added a strip of thin sheet say, c.20 x 2.5mm above each exhaust recess, and then faired fore and aft by sanding and filler. I liked the finished look.
Oh, and invest in some AM exhausts. The kit ones are very crude.

What would be required externally to convert the Airfix Wimpey Ic to a Hercules-engined III or X? Is it *just* engines / cowlings and appropriate masking of the fuse glazing?
I have spare engines and cowlings from the Airfix Lanc. B.II, which I could use.
Has anyone tried this?

Hi BMers,
Got a question for you.
In my copy of Streetly's "The Aircraft of 100 Gp" (p.143), there is a profile of Mosquito PR.XVI N-DT NS797 of 192 Sqn. Streetly describes a camo. of overall PRU blue with a disruptive pattern of Dark Green on top.
I found a RAFDEC sheet of this aircraft on t'internet, but this may have used Streetly as a source.
Apart from the above, I can see nothing corroborating this very unusual (to me) colour scheme. So, is it legit? Has it been debunked? Otherwise thought it might make a striking (although not necessarily a particularly pretty) model.

I had a 1:72 decal sheet from Rising Sun (72011) which included this plane - however that doesn't seem to be available now.
But there's this from Xtradecal:
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72196?result-token=BH0WQ
R3-G is on page 3 with a 'Modeller's note' that seems to suggest Olive Drab and primer for the overpainting
I attempted this plane before the invasion stripes were overpainted on a 1:72 Hobby Boss Easy Build kit.
Like this:
I've just realised that the Otaki kit is 1:48 and this set from xtradecal isn't available in 1:48 so this doesn't really help, sorry - maybe the spares box?
good luck
Mark
Tks, Mark.
Useful info.

Wonder if it could be a vintage classic- Fairey Firefly?
New tool FR. Mk. I would be nice.
Airfix Wellington Ic converted to Mk III / X?

So, as others have said, the rear turret of the III was also different. I bought a Mk II so have the extended tailplane. I have spare Bristol Hercules engines from a Lanc. II, so all I really need is a new rear turret I think.
