  1. So, as others have said, the rear turret of the III was also different. I bought a Mk II so have the extended tailplane. I have spare Bristol Hercules engines from a Lanc. II, so all I really need is a new rear turret I think.
  2. Thanks, Adam. I went, I saw, I bought.
  3. Are the BoB kits available yet?
  4. And here are some shots of it basically complete: Still to do are the antennas, fin-mounted Pitot tube, nose guns and the transparent 'roof' part on the rear fuse. I will post some glamour pics in RFI of the more complete model (given I've lost the roof part 🙄) and will embed a link to this build thread. Thanks for watching! Rgds Martin
  5. Here are some of the smaller bits you may have noticed in the earlier pictures;
  6. So, after applying the decals, I went at the upper surfaces - which, thankfully, had had plenty of time to cure - with a selection of sanding sticks. After a while, I got this: And after a panel line wash and a coat of satin varnish, it looked even better:
  7. A bit later, I found that I had mislaid the kit decals, so I removed the yellow nose and decided to use AM decals instead. The particular aircraft in the decals had overpainted the upper half of the invasion stripes. I therefore did the same, and it looked I wasn't convinced: However, I went ahead and applied the decals to see if that improved the look at all: Erm, no. More tomorrow. Rgds Martin
  8. I then added a support strut to the front gear leg. I had to adjust the length of the strut to get the correct nose up stance of the kit, and the forward rake of the nose gear. You can see here that I have added the exhaust fairings. These were made by heat-forming a thin sheet of plastic by applying a heated round file to the sheet. I used a template from the SH kit to place them.
  9. I then tidied up the stripes, and started adding the medium green blotches. These looked awful at this stage: But don't worry, they did get better later. As I pondered how to improve them, I did some work on the turret as I wasn't happy with the twin cannons and blank base of the kit turret.
  10. I continued to build up the neutral grey and olive drab until I felt that the pre shading was almost gone: I have unmasked the invasion stripes in these pictures. The cowlings remain unpainted as I still don't know what I'm going to do with the exhaust fairings. More soon.
  11. I decided to ignore the turbocharger inlet shape issue and just went with the kit interpretation; it's not like they're the most obvious characteristic of the aircraft. The exhaust fairings were merely ignored for now. I added a nice base of Tamiya white base and masked up the invasion stripes: After adding the black, I then thought I'd try some pre-shading prior to brushing the camo. Like so: I then started the camo scheme, beginning with the neutral grey (thinned xtracrylics). This is after the first coat: More tomorrow.
  12. So, I missed the end of this GB by quite a long way! I was put off as the turbocharger intakes looked completely the wrong shape and I couldn't see how to improve them. Also the exhaust fairings on the cowlings needed replacing and the work to replace them put me off. I then got distracted by other concerns. However, late in '22 I picked up the model again and continued it . . .
  13. Just checked my ropey reference and, according to it, the Mk II has the extended tailplane chord; I think the glazing could be masked appropriately, which just leaves the tail turret. I wonder if the Lanc's would be appropriate? I'll hit google and see
  14. Thanks for responding even with the rubbish thread title. OK, seems sensible. Ta!
