If it's a Balliol in 1/48 can we have Trevor band as he won't stop talking about it ??

    Only joking Trev.👍

Only just caught up with this. I employ the ‘creeping inevitability’ theory. Airfix are doing a good job on producing trainers in both usual scales. One year, hopefully in my lifetime, they will say “we’ve done everything else, stuff it…..it’s Balliol time!”

There’s natural metal, high speed silver, various yellow, blue and dayglo bits. Don’t forget the red one! Merlins, Mambas and Mercuries up front. Two styles of canopy and tail. And don’t forget the vast and so far untapped Sri Lankan market.

    It’ll be massive.

And I’ll buy at least two.

  2. Not a question, but just found this at the excellent cafe in Chesil Beach

    Hurricane wreckage

A bit of Hurricane apparently, it’s exhibited with remnants of a Merlin nearby. No idea of the provenance but there is a bit of Interior Green on it. Not scientific by any means but it’s not a million miles away from Hu78.

Usual caveat about weathering, exposure, salt contamination etc.

    The reality will be :-

    Wrong scale

    Wrong subject

    Totally unbuildable

They've not looked at a real aircraft / tank

    Far too expensive

    Oh no not another Spitfire

    The list goes on

From the land of Hornby just down the road from me.

But everyone will agree that the marking options are excellent

  4. Unusual but it would be a nice size in 1/48. Careful spruage (is that a word?) could get multiple marks. My personal preference would be for a III.

Engine options and changes in glazing would cover most of the main marks. Not sure what wing mods there were between marks. Anyone one have a dummies guide to the main differences?

  5. Good calls on the P-47 - high and low back (separate boxings!) and Boston. Not as if there are no available examples or schemes.

I’d forgotten about re issues. Skyvan would be nice. Bird Dog, Bulldog and Piper Arrow wouldn’t use up much plastic either.

  6. There is the apocryphal beer mat or ‘tax in post’ option for the tax disc!

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I always thought the disc had to be on the right hand side of the screen when looking from the front, because that was usually the side nearest to the pavement and so safer for the police and traffic wardens to check? Convention was usually the bottom right hand corner.

@bootneck I was there several years ago. The building was demolished and the site boarded up. There was however a plaque in the pavement commemorating the fact that this was 77 Sunset Strip
