  1. That's a whole different world of pain! Fusealage sides are flat not rounded giving the fuselage cross section a flattened triangle aspect.. You will need to cut the offending bulges out and replace with plastic card and blend in. Scale Aircraft Modelling did a hack n' filler job several years ago. Now back to the topic.................... MH
  2. I have built the Heller, Frog and Matchbox one in my time. The Frog one is ok enough but needs a replacement canopy. Heller is better but to be honest the Matchbox one is much better with a very subtle fabric effect on the wings. Having said that I recall that the canopy is a tad shallow. I have seen pictures of the Airfix but kit I would avoid it like the plague. Good luck MH
  3. I believe they use ex Swiss aircraft like this.......... http://www.hottail.nl/basevisits/2008/0627...-CGZIB-e071.jpg MH
  4. were you in the MAS too.........................................? MH
  5. Your patience on this project is zen like! Watching this with interest. Incidentally how are you going to tackle painting over foil? Will it adhere readily or will you need to key it first? MH
  6. that's worth a bit now! I don't think I ever got that one (must have sold enough of them over the MAS stalls at airshows in my time) MH
  7. Would that be the Aldon P Ferguson Book published by the MAS? MH
  8. So my completed 1/32 scale Lockheed Skunkworks Aurora in winter camo isn't eligable then? http://www.stoneville.co.uk/images/stones/...ite_Crystal.jpg Sorry about the silvered transfers -any tips? MH
  9. BoBF Spit II has them http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcms/mediafiles/ga...9C52/SP0203.jpg MH
  10. Again I'm no expert but I would be surpried if PS915 had been repainted PRU Blue after being painted overall silver. So then, silver, D type roundels and fin flash and a camera hatch whilst with THUM seem good to me as an end of life configuration. Guessing again I'm wondering whether they bothered to fair over the ventral camera port because after all the only thing the PR.19's were being used for was to fly up to the stratosphere or whatever and take some readings. MH
  11. I have a b/w picture of PS915 taken at Woodvale in Alfred Price's book "The Spitfire Story" on page 215. Painted silver overall the port side view confirms the precence of the camera port on the port side (no idea if there was a camera inside though). There is a heavy exhaust stain running down the fuselage. The front half of the spinner appears to be painted either blue or red but of course interpreting the colour would be guesstimation (I think it's blue!) MH
  12. I found this.......... http://fighter-collection.com/newsimg/img/...fuselage_01.jpg and from the cockpit side......... http://www.spitfire.dk/Eng_compartment.jpg Hope these help MH
  13. Colin I'm confused.com! Many years ago I bought "The Spitfire Story" by Alfred Price. On the back cover are two coloured photos, the bottom of which is a line up of pink, armed Spits with armoured windscreens (no serials though). They are described as PR.IX's of 16 Sqn at Moelsbrook in Autumn 1944. Air Britain's "Squadrons of the Royal Air Force" has 16 Sqn flying PR.XI's at this time. P156/7 of Alfred Price's book has a series of pictures of the 16 Sqn Spits FR.IX's (is there a difference?) and one of them is identified as MK716 'X' whilst another is MK915 'V'. Both have the armoured windscreen! Pics are b/w but the aircraft appear to be pink. MH
  14. Well I'll declare now - it's an FAA Canadair Sabre GA.4. Back history is all done and if you look at the bottom of my posts you will see thst I am currently attacking it with Mr. Muscle coz I stuffed up with the painting. Ho hum. Even at my glacial pace it will be finished for July. MH
  15. I'm still in for this. Do you have to declare now what you are doing or do you just turn up at the door and knock once built? MH
  16. Didn't the IX retain the armoured windscreen whilst the XI use the rounded one? MH
  17. Thanks for the nice words guys. It's a few years since I did the XIV, think it was a straight chop beween the two barrels. I would advise lashings of liquid glue and superglue. I also shaved the wing bulge off and moved it to the outboard position. Of course i should have modded the cannon shell shute underneath but didn't bother (shock horror!). MH
  18. Just to prove that I do whittle plastic, here is my attempt at the Airfix Spit 19. It's my first build of 2010 and the first one started since joining Britmodeller. I will never win a competition but it kept me happy and by my standards is a blindingly quick build. Not much to be said over what has already been written. Nice shape, minimal filler and in my case useable transfers (NOT decals!). However I wanted to build an all blue PRU RAF example. September 2009 Military Aircraft Modelling provided the answer, PS934 of 541 Squadron from RAF Benson approx 1950. The markings were a mixture of kit (roundels and tail flash), Modeldecal (codes and wing walkway stripe), Almark and Matchbox provided the rest of the serials. Finally, the squadron badge is from the original Airfix Hawk T.1 kit (yes the crest is wrong but the overall shape is ok). The only correction/additions made were seatbelts from Tamiya tape and rescribing the upper aileron hinge line (same fault as the Spit Vb kit). For the price you can't really complain (well the canopy is a bit thick and IMHO the panel lines are a tad deep - not quite Matchbox trench though). If you want a slipper tank - rob the Italeri kit. Anyway here we go - please don't laugh at my modelling/Photobucketing skills (too much anyway)...................... and then I dug out my Academy Mk.IVc for comparison. I modded it to an e version and finished it as an example from 132 Squadron in the Far East 1945. I always liked this kit (and at the time reviewers rated it over the Fujimi example) but side by side the cockpit is 'iffy' right then the PM Sea Fury TT.20 next Thanks for looking MH
  19. No further info I'm afraid other than I'm pretty sure they were all post war. MH
  20. Turkish Mossie's also had them http://www.hvkk.tsk.tr/PageSub/CokluOrtam/...0FB%20Mk.IV.jpg I knew their T.3's were so equipped but not these (FB.6's?) - pity no marking details though. MH
  21. Excellent! And the wooden base gives it a surreal effect. MH
