3 Squadron RAAF CO Bobby Gibbes' Kittyhawk IA ET953
franky boy replied to Wings unlevel's topic in I feel deserted GB
Nice to see this one back on the bench and looking good Gerard. Good change with the decals. James -
It would be rude not too. You could go Eduard and get carried away again the same as the 190 STGB last year!

Thanks for the info Bob, that’s interesting, I had no idea of that. I’ll be building the Eduard kit. I have the Korean War dual combo boxing and also the BFC release of the F-6D kit which has extra decal options, one of which is an RF-51 from Korea. Decision pending but I’ll check to see if I need to scribe in an extra plate or add some rows of rivets if the kit doesn’t have them. Will you be joining in? Thanks James

I completely agree with what you’re all saying about there being a lot of very interesting Mustang subjects post war. So to that end I’m pretty sure that I’ll be building a Korean War F-51 or RF-51 loaded up with rockets and bombs. James

Spitfire XIV, Belgische Militaire Luchtvaart

Nice choice Craig. Will look forward to following this one. IMHO a lot of the more interesting Spitfire schemes, including this one, come from the post war period late 40’s early 50’s. James- 64 replies

Ok. I’ve just had a trawl through Flickr and these are the two Eduard 190’s that built for the STGB last year. A-8 in the foreground and A-6 behind. 8D322831-7205-4FCE-B751-CA19E57AC21A by James Halls, on Flickr Thanks James

Great build @Mycapt65

Hi Wayne I haven’t built the Hasegawa 190’s, I built a Tamiya kit along time ago and it was what you’d expect from Tamiya. I have built a few of the newer Eduard kits and they’re beautifuly detailed and build up very quickly too. As far as I know they’re accurate shape wise. HTH James

Smashing work Craig. The guards rails look great, I no idea such things were used on the Mossie. You’ve turned out a great looking Mossie which will look good on the display shelf. James

Great work V-P. I’ve enjoyed following your build and had no idea the 215 appeared in sandy colours. Will definitely put it on the the to build list. James

Nice work on the cockpit Thom. Those pe levers look like they may have been tricky? James

Great work. I’ve enjoyed following along for this one and will definitely be trying the SMS metallics at the first chance. James -
Thanks @Blimpyboy Plenty to be going on with there. James

@11bravo Thanks for the reply and the excellent photo, that’s a great help. That must have been a real pain repainting the cockpits. I also found your build on LSP, nice work. Thanks again James
-
Excellent work Craig. She’s coming along very well. Pleased to see you found the Eduard stencils worked well. I used them on a Mossie build last year and found the set that I had was a bit misaligned. In that the red top layer wasn’t quite lined up properly over the white base layer. Anyway small problems and yours look tip top. Another great picture of Mable too. James

Thanks Gerard. It’s a very nice kit and really scrubs up well with some careful painting and a bit weathering. James

The Italian Job, Signore Caproni goes to war.

This looks like an interesting one Craig. The transparent fuselage is an interesting one. I don’t blame you for being wary of those camo schemes. Will enjoy following this one. James- 16 replies

Hello chaps Im planning on building an RF-51 for the upcoming Mustang stgb. My question is the cockpit colour. I’ve read that aircraft that were sent to Korea had had a major overhaul and part of this was having their cockpits re sprayed in black rather than the traditional WW2 period interior green. Can anyone shed any light on weather this was the case please? Thanks James
