Here's the Mighty Hood in 1/700 scale from Flyhawk. The Flyhawk kits are amazing and go together really well. I therefore chose a bit more of a challenge and decided to build the deluxe version with more photoetch and miniscule brass parts. For reference, I leaned heavily on the HMS Hood Association website and, in particular for the rigging, Steve Hewitt of the Model Shed's 1/200 Hood. Overall I really enjoyed the challenge and I hope you like the results. This is my first foray into ship modelling and I chose HMS Kelly as a bit of a practice kit before I tackled HMS Hood. Here she is completed. I really enjoyed the challenge of a new type of modelling (I'm normally an aircraft modeller) and have caught the maritime bug. Hope you enjoy. Here's my 1/48 Fencer in Ukrainian markings. Masks and decals were from Foxbot and the paints were Hataka. The masks were a bit of a nightmare really as they left lots of residue on the model that had to be cleaned off. Luckily, I'd used lacquer paints so the odourless thinners I used to wipe off the excess didn't affect the paint. I also put some Storm Shadow missiles on the inboard pylons. Not sure if the pylon interface is correct as I've now read that they used GR4 pylons adapted to the Fencer pylons. Hope you like. This is the Eduard reboxing of the Zvezda kit. The limited edition boxing came with the decals for this scheme so I snapped it up as soon as I could. Initially, I wanted to add the Arma raised rivets to the kit and managed to get one sent over from Russia (before Feb last year). I had seen another great build on here that had used their rivets and took some guidance from that (sorry I can't find the link now). I sort of gave up after a while as you had to get rid of the carrier film and I ended up removing quite a few rivets aswell. I then heard that Eduard were bringing out a set of raised detail for the kit and thought I'd try with them. I followed their instructions and was very happy with the results. Onto the scheme and I used the DN Models masks to paint the splinter camo, orange demarcation and most of the tiger stripes. The masks did not want to stick to the model so multiple corrections were needed and in the end I painted a few of the tiger stripes by hand. Overall though I'm very happy with the result. Here's the new tool Bucc from Airfix. I was inspired to do this from a Philip West painting hanging in the Boscombe Down Officer's Mess bar of this aircraft flying over a runway dropping a BL755 on trials. I quite like doing interesting paint schemes and this is no different. I've got to admit I'm still not sure how good the Buccaneer looks in this scheme but it was interesting to mask and paint. The camera pods were designed in CAD and sent off for 3D printing. Here's Tamiya's 1/48 P-38J in the markings of Double Trouble II of the 367th Fighter Group based at RAF Stoney Cross and RAF Ibsley in the New Forest. If you've seen my Liberator and Typhoon builds you'll know that I like to build aircraft that flew from the New Forest airfields during WWII. This is my latest addition to that collection and is also my first bare metal finish. The quality of the kit has been mentioned lots already and I can only add to those sentiments. For the BMF, lots of AK extreme metals and Alclads were used with varying primer coats to get the different shades on the panels. Light oil washing was done in places to show some dirt and exhaust stains were added with a mixture of tamiya buff and brown. Here is Academy's new 1/48 A-10C. I used the TwoBobs Blacksnakes decal set and weathered it up to the extreme as I saw on some photos from their deployment to Afghanistan. The kit was really nice to build with the only real fix being the shallow intakes. I used the DEF model intakes to remedy this. The raised detail is exquisite and care was taken to save it from the sanding stick. Where this wasn't possible, I replaced the rivets with some leftovers from the Hind build. Here are a few photos. Yeah sign me up. Will probably go for a 1/144 Saturn V and Shuttle double build.

They weren’t on a free return trajectory so they used the LM DPS to get back on it before they went behind the moon. Looking at the mission timeline, Lovell and Haise powered up the LM 58 hrs into the mission and first used the DPS at MET 61:30 so probably between those two times as part of the power up. They then used the DPS twice more during the mission for a PC+2 burn and a mid-course correction. Once the legs were deployed, they could not be retracted as in normal service they never would need to be.

Yes they had to deploy the legs so that they could use the LM’s descent engine for the burns. Normally they’d be deployed just before separation from the CSM before descending to the lunar surface.

Firstly due to lack of space (these two are already taking up a lot of my cabinet) and also because for some reason I don't really have much interest in the Valiant and thus no real desire to build one (heresy I know but ones vices can't be helped 😂 ) Here's a couple from my desk with my phone. Thanks all I used Mr Colour's UV Cut gloss. There were a few fit issues around the connection of the empennage to the fuselage. Not too much in the way of sink marks. They're probably there but not noticable on the final model

Thanks all! It's a really nice kit and just falls together. In terms of decals, they go down really well. Trickiest ones are the bits of blue around the canopy and top of the fuselage. The other ones to look out for are the ones on the tanks. I found they needed a lot of fiddling to go down and then started to wrinkle and break up a bit. If you're looking for a colour match for the metallic blue for the front of the tanks, use Mr Colour Metallic Blue (C076). It was pretty much spot on over a black basecoat. Luckily quite a few were combined together into one decal so it reduced the number quite a bit.

I saw an Apollo 11 version of this kit in the competition at SMW and it inspired me to have a go at my own. I immediately went around the vendors and found an Apollo 13 version. I decided to have a go at detailing the blown panel on the SM using the (very) limited photographs that exist of the real thing after separation. Lots of foil later I'm happy with the results. I also spent some time looking for the correct cladding for each of the LM's panels and tried to get as close as possible in this scale. The stand comes with the kit and I made my own decal of the Apollo 13 badge to go on it. Hope you like.
