  1. Thanks Charlie, I know you'll do a great job of one so look forwards to it if you do. Hopefully I'll get the main gear legs on tomorrow for a test.
  2. Thanks Jeff. There's a few things that are wrong that I will have to live with. The windscreen should only be three panes, the starboard side waist gun isn't staggered within the bay window (St Pauls window as I found out reading the Consolidated Mess book) and I'm still deliberating on fitting the armoured panels to the canopy. Got the masks off earlier, the fuselage is pretty much done down apart from sticky out bits which I'll leave until last.
  3. I might release a few kits from the stash to make room for some of these newer kits coming through, they are being released faster than I can build! Thanks Roger In the background, I've gone back to the turrets. They need brightening up a bit, I painted these with the last of an old bottle of MRP Super Silver that doesn't seem to have gone on well so I'll re-mask them and do again. The other thing I'm doing is filling the gaps in around the barrels to represent how they look. Once painted, I'll drill a hole out for the barrels. The real thing: This afternoon, I got the bomb bay complete and barn doors on. The weathering streaks have altered slightly since taking the pics, more inline with the photo's of the real thing: The weathering has been done by oils rather than pastels which are more in my comfort zone, but the pastels need a more matt coat to grip so it's been a fun experiment... Still need to find out whether it will be a tail sitter or not 😬 Cheers Neil
  4. I know I commented on Facebook, but lovely progress. I don't envy the task of fitting all those vortex generators, a few drinks would be needed beforehand! As you say though, at lease you won't have to make them.
  5. Beautiful work on that main gear Elger. Although not much will be seen, the additional pipework really adds to it. There's a big difference between the intakes on Belcher set and HK, but I wonder if the HK is based on the later intakes that were bigger? not sure why they are different inner to outer though. I've got this kit to do, so this will be a great reference thread for for detail and inspiration Cheers
  6. Thanks James 🤣🤣🤣 My missus was the opposite when she seen me pull the 'Consolidated Mess' book out for some bedtime reading 🤣
  7. Just caught up, those tanks are amazing! Can't wait to see paint on it if those drop tanks are anything to go by!
  8. Just caught up with this Roger, can't believe you're nearly finished! Great work so far, love those decals, they've come out really well
  9. Beautiful. Quite an unusual scheme and love the weathering. Think I need to start mine next, totally inspired!
  10. Wow, what an amazing scheme. I think I'd of bottled at the decal stage!
  11. I know what you mean, the paint came out rather nice and I had a similar thought, but cracked on as I wanted to recreate the worn look in the pictures. From the pics i've seen, the Academy one looks good, but I think I'll hold out for a couple of the new Airfix ones. I hope the finesse is on par with the recent Messerschmitt 410. There will be soon, we have the new Airfix kit coming which I'm hoping will have other variant potential and the Hobbyboss 1/48 kit has just been released too. Things are going the right way This afternoon I had a dabble with the oils to give a worn look. Apart from some of the streaks back from the engines across the wings that are showing in pics, I don't want to go much further than this. Really pleased with how it's looking as I was on the fence a bit from doing much. Getting there slowly Cheers Neil
  12. And the last pics for today. Got a wash on. I don't like to leave it to dry, it gets wiped off wet so there's only a hint in there rather than dark lines. Then a semi matt coat of MRP varnish was sprayed over, just enough to allow some of the oil and pastel weathering stuff to grip. Still need to paint the bombs and bomb racks before fitting the bay doors too. Cheers Neil
  13. You've fought back well after those setbacks, it's looking stunning now
  14. Really coming together now.
  15. Beautiful and a great tribute. 36000 aircraft lost over Scotland in WW2? Wow, that's pretty scary.
  16. Wow, that last pic really puts into perspective how small it is. you couldn't tell due to the fine detail you've achieved.
  17. Lovely builds and great tip on the coffee warmer!
  18. Bit more progress today, I've got the decals on. They are a mix of sets. The Xtradecal sheet didn't include the serial for the inside of the tail planes so I made some up on the 'puter. Also, the darkened fuselage insignia wasn't included either, but there was some in a sheet if Lifelike Decals so used them, although they aren't dark enough so I'll try to darken them once I get onto the weathering. Added some paint chips as per real pics, although in real life it could be down to the metal. I've also assumed the 'H' is white as it looks lighter than the tail colour:
  19. Thanks, agree. I used to hate working with enamels, had far too little patience for drying times so most of my models had finger prints in them! If I remember, most of my childhood was waiting for paint to dry 🤣 Thanks Jeff, rather looking forwards to that one too. It has the canopy I need for this one too. If they are smart, it will have a modular nose to facilitate many future options. Thanks Chris, I surpassed myself with this, I normally take ages! Thanks Andy, can't wait to sling the dirt at it! Thanks, by this stage, I've normally made an obligatory cock up on the paint work, but this has gone surprisingly smoothly. Still chance yet though! I received my copy of the Consolidated Mess last night so quickly tucked in for some bed time reading and noticed a mistake on my model within 5 minutes of reading it! I wondered why the waist gun was in the rear section of the bay window, assuming it was on both sides as I only had a pic of one side. I now realise they were staggered so the other side should be on the front panel. Both of mine are at the rear and they're glued in. 😭
  20. Fortunately, not much damage can occur down there 🤣 A bit more progress over the last few days, but only just taken some pics. The brightwork is done, next step is decalling before sealing and getting stuck into the weathering. most of the paint is MRP Super Silver, but a few panels have been done in MRP Duralium and a concoction of silver, gun metal and light aircraft grey. The tonal variations are exaggerated due to a more matt finish on some of the panels, this will be more neutralised once the semi-matt coat goes down after the decalling Cheers Neil
  21. I've just had to double check this isn't 1/32! Amazing work Bruno, such a pleasure to follow, far from being a nightmare, more like an inspiration! Even the weathering on the edge of the prop is something to try and copy, brilliant.
  22. somehow the pics make it looks small, but we all know this thing is a beast! Beautiful build Tom, and a great scheme to choose as well.
  23. Wow, Wow, Wow, even the diesel engine. Amazing modelling and information, thanks for sharing.
