  1. Interesting stuff https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/43938/f-35-and-f-117-spotted-flying-with-mysterious-mirror-like-skin
  2. I got a CD with a bunch of images of it somewhere in the grey scheme given to me by the former DCC after return from Incirlik. Jet was basic overall Gunship Grey, fin top was red for 77TFS Stencil Us insignia(star & bar) plus stencil 20th TFW badge. Single yellow bomb stencil under port windscreen Nose gear doors Small 77th TFS badge 050 and crew names in black Pilot Capt Luke Mason DCC T/Sgt Randolph Johnson WSO blank no name listed ACC A1C Dean van der Noord All the other AMP jets returned to Upper Heyford in the more common greens, brown and black scheme, so in late 1991 050 lost its grey paint and returned from the paint shop in the green/brown scheme. Ironically 18 months later when all the AMP equipped F-111E moved to Cannon AFB replacing the F-111Gs of the 428th FS they all got a nice new coat of the new corporate Air Combat Command Gunship grey. https://flic.kr/p/2mYPdf2
  3. Ok some of the work in this STGB has made me drag my wallet out and purchase a 1/48 Meng F-18F. Subject will be US Navy Test Pilot School Super Hornet from Furball decals. Should be a fun project once the kit arrives next week.
  4. Kursad over at Caracal decal has expressed a interest in doing it along with reprinting his VHTF 1/48 493rd Eagle sheet. I'm still wondering if there's not more to be added to this one, there's alot of blank space on those big black tail fins and the rest of the jet for that matter. As long as they don't go too crazy like with the clown car D-day jets.
  5. So maybe thinking of entering this STGB to kick start my mojo. Gotta be 10 years since my last one (Hobbyboss F/A-18A 1/48) thinking of a Super Bug this time but my previous experiences with the Hasegawa & Revell kits wasn't pleasant. Wondering about the recent Hobbyboss and Meng offerings, watched reviews on y/T etc what's in the box and full builds but still can't decide with manufacturer to go with. Anyone got anything positive to say about either?... First we decide manufacturer then variant choices although Foxtrot models and Growlers are my favourites as the 2 seat jets just look cooler
  6. Why have I only just noticed this one? Can I throw my name in the hat please. Now did we get a positive yes or no on whif subjects....I have a plan in my head, the models themselves would be basically a stock F-15C and F-15E but the paint schemes/decals be completley fictional schemes loosely based on 48th Fighter Wing machines @RAF Lakenheath taking into account the USAF's current fad of painting any aircraft that sits still long enough in a throwback 'Heritage' scheme and that 2022 marks 30 years of F-15's at Lakenheath. Cheers, Gary
  7. I was once told by a B-17 Veteran that all the interior doors were removed from every Fortress he ever flew on at Snetterton Heath with the 96thBG. The wood doors were more valuable else where on the ground and not only slowed down any emergency egress from the aircraft but created extra crew dangers in that they would generally splinter and explode if hit by enemy Flak shrapnel or heavy calibre 20/30mm rounds.
  8. The 1/48 Bulleye Decals instructions....maybe of some help for your 1/72 project.
  9. Interiors were grey, my concern whenever I've built one is did the late camo aircraft after going through overhaul @ Cavalier Sarasota retain the WW2 era fuselage fuel tank behind the seat. I know two or three of FAD's F-51's were modified to 2 seater dual controls but have never seen a pic at just the right angle of the rest to see if the tank is still there.
  10. No aftermarket ones... As you note the CFT's in the early Hasegawa F-15E DRF kits are the correct type for what you need. They can be found in boxings #P8,P21,PT48 The pylons are in every Hasegawa 1/48 F-15 kit Sprue C parts 32 & 33 normally marked as not use.
  11. Nice, but wheres the Early G model or B-17F....Come on Airfix you know it makes sense.
  12. Well the fact it has a full cockpit over the..... well nothing that Roden supplied in their kit makes this one the far more pleasing kit for me. Plus I've wanted to build a short body 141 for years..
  13. Guess it'll include the hard wing parts from the old Revell Germany RF-4C/E boxing for the Vietnam era and Japanese decal options
  14. Doubt it for a TF-51 they are just both types of seat fitted to P-51D/K's at the time. The Schick-Johnson 95-100 and its variants were used in P-51,P-40,P-47 and most likely other types But the Warren-Mc Arthur 243B-AS1 was the more common type used in D/K production Anyway back to your scheduled viewing of the Eduard kit, before the Admin/Mods step in for me taking the thread off on a tangent
  15. Dunno about the Piper Enforcer as that was almost a completely new airframe. However when talking with Andrey of Halberd on Facebook about this 1/48 Cavalier Mustang set and the upcoming 1/32 version he did mention a Turbo Cavalier set in the works.
  16. Been excited about this one since I stumbled across it on Facebook. Should make for some unusual Mustangs especially with their turbo prop conversion in the works too. In two minds to buy a couple of these sets or wait for the promised 1/32 set and modify the Tamiya 1/32 kit
  17. Lovely Build... I too have fond memories of these beasts in the skies over East Anglia. Including a low level sneek attack by a pair of Hawgs whilst driving my car down a quiet lane in the Suffolk countryside in the Summer of '92 scaring the poop out of me as i never heard or saw him coming...only to then look in my rearview mirror to see his wingman rolling in on me for a mock gun run too. 😬 Was a sad day as a spotter to watch the final 2 jets fly out to their new home @ Spangdahlem only afew short months later as the 81st Fighter Wing deactivated.
  18. I only knew him for a short time having been introduced to him by Neil aka Mr Paragon on these forums. I believe they had been friends for many years. Seemed a very nice chap, taken far too soon sadly
  19. Always makes me kinda sad to see Johnny Fartpants again. For those not aware the pilot of this perticular Gulf war Jag was flown by Flt Lt Stephen Shutt Steve was briefly a member of this Britmodeller community under the forum name jagmate until he lost his life in a light aircraft crash in 2008 along with his passenger. May they both Rest in Peace. On a more cheery note Excellent work on the kit Dave.
