  1. This helps a great deal as I have those size roundels and fin flash on my Xtradecal D type roundel set. So I will use the measurements you kindly supplied.. Many thanks.
  2. Help required. I am busy converting a 1/72 B-29 Superfortress to an RAF Washington B.I as used by 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron in the 1950's I need assistance to get the correct sizes of the type 'D' roundels on the fuselage & main wing as well as the tri colour tail marking. These sizes can be in either 1/72 scale or the original size on the actual aircraft in inches. All assistance will be greatly appreciated.
  3. If anyone is interested I found the following on the CFS Norton, Southern Rhodesia: http://rhodesianheritage.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/memories-of-raf-station-norton.html
  4. Many thanks. Looking at the box art on the linked article the one I built was a Minicraft kit.
  5. My Heller 1/50 330C Puma completed in the SAAF delivery colours. Aftermarket decals by MAV decals. Paint used ared are: Humbrol 86 Light Olive Acrylic spray paint and Vallejo Natural Steel & Silver.
  6. A 1/48 Bechcraft Bonanza (kit manufacturer unknown) that I am doing to represent the aircraft used by Doc Watson whilst serving in the Rhodesian BSAP Reserve Air Wing during the bush war. Still to make and install are the 2 x LMG underwing gun pods as per photos of the actual aircraft. It is a tail sitter as there is no room for nose weights due to the engine being fitted, so need to make a clear thin tail prop. Decals all home made. Paints used are Halfords Mercedes Polar White in a spray can and Vallejo Black.:
  7. Here are some pics of my Revell C-47 done in the colour scheme of the SAAF Air Ambulance as seen in 1966. Feedback welcomed.
  8. The decals seem to be ok. I cannot see any dot matrix on them.
  9. Here is the instructions regards the resin adaptions for the Mirage F1AZ as supplied with the set by Scaleworx. Hope it helps see how much of the original kit is used. The adaption constists of new canopy x 2, resin nose section, resin jet pipe, rear under fuselage straks with chaff dispensers, various small adapted pieces (vents, warning detectors, etc), new main wheels, new nose gear doors,
  10. WIP on a 1960's SAAF C-47. The kit used is the Revell 1/48 C-47 Sky train. Still to obtain the required decals for a particular aircraft: Paints used for the white and silver are automobile spray tins Mercedes Polar White and Audi Silver. The red orange is a Vallejo acrylic done with an air brush. Now to make the required decals as the only ones I have are the Castle/Springboks.
  11. Recently completed my 1/48 Mirage F1AZ using the adaption kit from Scaleworx and MAV decals. The donor kit was an Italeri Mirage F1CR/CT kit. Paints used: Air Brush Vallejo acrylics - 70894 Cam Olive Green, 70900 French Mirage Blue, 70864 Natural Steel & 70997 Silver. Humbrol acrylic spray cans used: 29 Dark Earth & 49 Matt Clear Coat. Comments welcomed.
  12. The surface detail is raised but only very faintly.
  13. I had the same problem with the canopy. It was either use plastic card on the front of the fuselage to widen the fuselage, or fit the canopy and emery the joint down. I did the later. Paint used for the Green was rattle can Humbrol Acrylic Light Olive (No 86). The steel sections are done using Vallejo Acrylic Natural Steel paint.
  14. Some pics of the work in progress. As well as the items mentioned earlier in the thread, I need to cut out the underside rear window (at present it is a domed piece of solid platic) and install a clear plastic piece. Main rotor blades cut straight at the end of the blade.
  15. Gregair. There has been some progress. Was waiting for some decent photos of the Puma when they were delivered to the SAAF. Got some and have done in overall olive green. Just got to make a few decals. Will post more pics on the weekend. Still need to scratch build and install the main cabin steps. External antennas now fitted ( one above the rear cabin roof and one under the pilots lowest window).
  16. Some more work done on the Puma - Interior installed, Cockpit and canopy installed, Rotor started (main and tail), Air intakes drilled out, Air vent at the rear of the motor housing drilled out, Tail warning skid scratch built and installed. Still got the main compartment door steps to scratch build and install. So far I have had problems lining up the sponsons as no alignment holes on the kit. Also the tail is slightly out of alignment due to the warping. Filler has been used on the upper and lower fuselage as well as where the sponsons join the fuselage. Plenty of filing. The main compartment is stuffed with tissue at present and will be until the camo scheme is completed. Taken a while due to health problems.
  17. Does anyone have any photos of the Puma in the Boscombe Down colour scheme?
  18. Have already made a ceiling and installed it in the cabin area. Might open the air intakes and scratch build parts for them. Externally will be doing basic details such as cabin steps, tail boom warning arm, antennas. Re colour scheme and country markings - still undecided.
  19. Kwality8: I made a real mess of masking and painting a lot of canopies before I started getting it rightish. Now I put the masking tape over the area, press it down so the frames show up, then go round the outline with a fine tipped pencil to show where to cut. Finally I cut the outlines out and remove the excess. This is all done prior to glueing the canopy into position (for glueing it I use a white glue). Only once I have completed the aircraft and paint job with its clear coat do I remove the tape from the covered areas. Hope this helps.
  20. Recently completed French SA313 Alouette II (Revel 1/48). Built out of the box with no mods.
  21. Started this kit, a Heller 1/50 SA330 Puma. Lots to be done due to the following: 1) Fuselage is warped. 2) very basic kit. 3) It is an old kit so the parts have a lot of flash on them - plenty of cleaning up. The interior is built separate and slid into position once completed. Then the canopy is glued into position. Undecided whether to do it as a French, RAF or SAAF model. If SAAF will have to make decals.
  22. Kit used to make this model is this one: AFZ markings are from an aftermarket decal sheet and the underwing rocket pods are from an Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer kit.
  23. Many thanks for the kind comments. The decal for the formation light strips at the front of the fuselage were masked and hand painted. This is because the original decal ones fell apart when in the water. The same applies to the ones on the wing tips. The Royal Malaysia Air Force markings were from an aftermarket decal sheet. Kit used for this model:
  24. Recently completed 1/48 Bae Hawk Mk 108 in the Royal Malaysia AF scheme. Paint used is Vallejo 70870 medium sea grey (air brushed).
  25. Recently completed 1/48 Airfix Bae Hawk. Done as a T.60 of the Air Force of Zimbabwe. Paints used are Dark Earth 29 (Humbrol spray can), Vallejo 70.893 U.S. Dark Green (brush painted) & Vallejo 70.989 Sky grey (air brushed): Note: Tail markings are a Zimbabwe bird on one side and the Zimbabwe flag on the other. When delivered in 1982 they had no roundels and the Zimbabwe bird on both sides of the tail.
