  1. A lovely job on both aircraft Cliff. Great pics and terrific DG/DE finish, presume it was airbrushed (?). Curious which paints you used, and what you had for a camera setup.
  2. Well done Stu. The Hurricane definitely is something a little different :-).
  3. Thanks to all for your very kind comments. Am curious as to why Rick Brown found this a more difficult build than other Airfix Spits? The only tricky part I encountered was ensuring that the undercart bits and flaps were installed in the correct positions, very easy to get it all backwards . And the stenciling took longer than the kit to finish, very tedious LOL!
  4. Supermarine Spitfire F Mk.22 No. 607 (County of Durham Squadron), Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Ouston, England. This aircraft took part in the Cooper Trophy Race of 1948. Airfix 1/72. Great model, fit and finish were superb. Highly recommended.
  5. Well done Mr. Fuad, a remarkable finish to be certain. Glad that my take on this exact same model was posted before I saw yours. I may have to delete my post *embarrassment smiley*.
  6. Due to other priorities, and sometimes mojo not working, a long drawn out build for me. Glad I have finally completed it. The Special Hobby Whirlwind Mk I is a great little kit with nice detail supported by some resin, PE parts, and excellent decals. Weakest part for me was the undercart and associated doors which the instructions failed to provide enough information on regarding attachment points. Painted with Mr. Hobby lacquers.
  7. The Spitfire bug first bit me in 1962, when I built my very first Airfix model of the Mk. IX, Johnny Johnson's mount. Plain and simple, it is a stunningly romantic and beautiful aircraft, with a killer instinct. Much like some women I have known.
  8. It's already been said, so at the risk of sounding repetitive, what a stunningly, brilliant, beautiful, fantastic job! Classic.
  9. Just getting caught up on this topic, and was admiring the colours of your brushwork Steve. I assume from your post that these are Vallejo Model Air paints; can you tell me which paint colours you used to get your RAF camp colours looking so correct? I'm having a heck of a time finding anything Vallejo that really matches RAF dark green and dark earth.
  10. I think you're fairly safe going with grey green for the sidewalls and fuselage interior, with aluminium painted tube frame substructure.
  11. Very nicely done Paul, I have two of those in my stash also :-). Curious which paints did you use for the camo. I've had a devil of a time sorting out the right colours.
  12. Thanks to all for the very kind comments, much appreciated. I feel it's worth including a short historical note with some builds, lest we forget the personal sacrifices made by those that have fought for our freedom. Sgt. John Hannah was a very brave man. Respect.
  13. Victoria Cross Citation - 652918 Sergeant John Hannah 'The KING has been graciously pleased to confer the VICTORIA CROSS on the undermentioned officer in recognition of most conspicuous bravery : "On the night of 15th September, 1940, Sergeant Hannah was the wireless operator/air gunner in an aircraft engaged in a successful attack on an enemy barge concentration at Antwerp. It was then subjected to intense anti-aircraft fire and received a direct hit from a projectile of an explosive and incendiary nature, which apparently burst inside the bomb compartment. A fire started which quickly enveloped the wireless operators and rear gunners cockpits, and as both the port and starboard petrol tanks had been pierced, there was grave risk of the fire spreading. Sergeant Hannah forced his way through to obtain two extinguishers and discovered that the rear gunner had had to leave the aircraft. He could have acted likewise, through the bottom escape hatch or forward through the navigators hatch, but remained and fought the fire for ten minutes with the extinguishers, beating the flames with his log book when these were empty. During this time thousands of rounds of ammunition exploded in all directions and he was almost blinded by the intense heat and fumes, but had the presence of mind to obtain relief by turning on his oxygen supply. Air admitted through the large holes caused by the projectile made the bomb compartment an inferno and all the aluminium sheet metal on the floor of this airmans cockpit was melted away, leaving only the cross bearers. Working under these conditions, which caused burns to his face and eyes, Sergeant Hannah succeeded in extinguishing the fire. He then crawled forward, ascertained that the navigator had left the aircraft, and passed the latter's log and maps to the pilot. This airman displayed courage, coolness and devotion to duty of the highest order and by his action in remaining and successfully extinguishing the fire under conditions of the greatest danger and difficulty, enabled the pilot to bring the aircraft to its base." The youngest receipient of the Victoria Cross during WWII. John Hannah was 18.
  14. Thanks again Troy, of course it is diecast (I should have left the manu's logo off but probably would have got into trouble over photo copyright :-)). I should point out that the gun access covers are inserts that can be changed out to accommodate different marks. We have had quite a discussion about this over on the Diecast Aviation forum, and I just wanted to know what your take was on it.
  15. Thanks very much Troy for your prompt and very comprehensive reply, it was most helpful :-). In a similar vein and in order to settle a discussion on various marks of Hurricane, can you tell me what you consider to be the Mark of the following Hurricane? http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/ACpilot1/ACpilot1001/Your%20Bucket%20TWO/image.jpg1_zpsovz85kkk.jpg
  16. Can anyone provide information on the walkway strips visible at the wing roots of the Hawker Hurricane? Were they panels attached to the wing, or some type of rubberized paint applied to the surface, or a combination of both? Also were the strips painted in colours other than black? Thanks in advance for any help provided. http://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q680/db9advantage/Screen%20Shot%202015-04-21%20at%2017.57.48_zpsnupz82kn.png http://s35.photobucket.com/user/chrisflanagan/media/Alber%20Lewis_zpsona8b0pd.jpg.html http://s35.photobucket.com/user/chrisflanagan/media/Hurri%20LK_zpswjei5rhv.jpg.html
  17. A really nice job of a challenging kit. Well done.
  18. Brilliant work on one of my favourite aircraft. Too easy to miss your link to the "album" pics. Beautiful...
  19. A lovely rendition of the Spitfire. Thanks for sharing.
