  1. I'm not sure what that building is. It is a lot smaller than an Ops building. A lot of HAS sites have what appear to be two Ops buildings but they are sometimes of different designs. There is one building that appears at nearly all RAF HAS sites often quite close to a taxiway and Ops building and would be quite an interesting build. From what I can gather they were part of the Uniter secure comms network. 1/72 drawings And something I'm halfway through, the actual EWS (emergency water supply) is 40' x 40' and they are scattered around HAS sites.
  2. It is a copy of the one at St Mawgan which I believe was the last HAS site to be built in the UK. I have looked on google maps and these buildings all look similar although there appear to be variations. The Ops buildings at RAF Leeming look to be the same as St Mawgan. They are substantial buildings, taking up as much space as a HAS. Re the Sangar, some had a proper opening so you could walk in. This opening was protected by half of another sangar.
  3. Very nice set. Nothing better than a good old fashion day at the fence, certainly beats the mediocrity that the UK Airshow circuit has become (apart from RIAT).
  4. An interesting set with excellent access. Thanks for sharing these.
  5. A good set. Plenty of variety there, and I do like that Osprey photo.
  6. Good to see a USN P-3 from this era. I believe Microscale did VP47 decals but there are still a few units from that era that haven't been done.
  7. Also known as a Yarnold bunker after its designer. I have access to a couple if you need details. I've been measuring various buildings and installations on a HAS site and drawing 1/72 plans. These include an Operations building, Uniter buiding, EWS, and a bowser garage. I've been working on the Ops building, still lots to do, weathering, access ladders etc .
  8. Such a good looking aeroplane, far more character than its replacement. Thanks for posting.
  9. Very nice images. The aircraft look immaculate, particularly the Phantom.
  10. Certainly is unique, and one I missed participating in an exercise at RAF St Mawgan in 1994 by a couple of days when I had to return to work after a holiday in Cornwall.
  11. Lovely looking aircraft. I miss seeing US Navy C-9Bs .
  12. One of the instant giveaways on spotting the HM2 when it entered service were the two aerials in front of the nose wheel.
  13. Even Lands End Airport has seen more military movements than CU this week, Wildcat yesterday and I think a Puma earlier in the week .
  14. I believe they are on block leave this week.
  15. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
  16. Wonderful! Thanks for sharing them with us.
  17. Don't forget the Navy ones were painted fluorescent orange up until the early 1980s and I believe the yellow cab roof was standard. This photo at Culdrose is from 1987 and you can see the orange showing through in places.
  18. ZZ178 spent almost three hours flying circuits in the Wadebridge / Bodmin area on Thursday. Flying very slowly at 8000ft with slats / flaps and rear ramp down, I lost count of the number of times it flew over the house. Must have been around 15.
  19. Many thanks, that confirms the accuracy of my BW Models TACR2.
  20. There are some images of a 1/48 kit that was / maybe still is available that may help you. http://album.sixappealwheel.org/index.php/Froukos-Models/album72/ARFF-Models-England/RAF_Landrover_groen_voor
  21. I've just dug out an unmade BW Models TACR1 and according to that there is an exposed water/foam tank behind the rear crewmans seat. I wouldn't like to vouch for the accuracy in this area of the kit so would like to see some photos of the real thing myself.
  22. A strange old Month which started off with a dose of Covid. The main symptom was fatigue and although I was testing fine by RIAT week I really didn't feel like driving up to use my Friday ticket. On Sunday a friend messaged me with the offer of a departures day pass and after a bit of thought I decided to go. Starting off with Newquay. Photography there has become a real pain, the Spaceport building site has narrowed the possibilities down considerably. I was delighted to finally see a French A330 MRTT, but only just! I was sitting in the garden with the Mrs when a friend messaged me saying it was descending over Devon. A quick dash in the car saw me miss one approach, but luckily it did a couple more. The Osprey spent a weekend at Newquay, flying sorties each day. The Army Dauphins arrived late one evening. RIAT Departures Monday; Still got loads to plough through but here are some of the ones I've looked at.
  23. They were a regular sight around Cornwall, my Neighbour worked on them when he was with Airwork and took me to work (I was a schoolboy) a couple of times when he did overtime on a Sunday. Unfortunately most of my old photos have been lost over the years but I've been able to salvage some. Many of the Canberras on 7 Sqn wore the 'City of Truro' crest during their last couple of years at St Mawgan. WJ639 was the only one with a rear view mirror.
  24. Nice dose of nostalgia. Thanks for posting those.
  25. Very nice, always good to see some RAF Phantoms.
