  1. Thanks Mark, One essential you will need is a tripod. Some people use a remote shutter release but from what I could see most use the built in camera self timer. I usually set the ISO to 100 or 200 and try both shutter priority and aperture priority, the good thing is you have plenty of time to try out various combinations. Before my first one back in 2009 I popped out on my drive and tried out a variety of settings taking pics of my car. There's always someone there that can help. See you in October!
  2. Here are a few images from the latest RAF Northolt Nightshoot held last Thursday evening. This one was a last minute decision and a 'pay at the gate' by me. I was supposed to be having an operation earlier in the week and didn't think I'd be able to make the Nightshoot but industrial action put a stop to the procedure. All in all another pleasant evening was had taking photos of aircraft and catching up with a few old faces. Thanks to Phil, Lea and all the helpers at RAF Northolt.
  3. The following images were taken in 2017 during an official visit organized by the CRO at RNAS Culdrose for a group of local enthusiasts and a number of photography students from Falmouth uni. Sadly most of the airframes have recently been removed from the site due to a persistent problem with trespassers, criminal damage and theft. I believe that the RNSFDO still use the site for Fire training using purpose built rigs.
  4. Took me a while to work out where the fairing you mention is located. My most recent photos of Junglies were taken last May and when looking at the 4 and 4A together the fairing is definitely missing on the 4A. I've also just noticed that the 4A has a longer hand rail by the cabin door. Looking at older images the fairing only started to appear on the Mk 4 from 2021/22.
  5. Just had a sift through my old A-10 photos after finding a couple of unmade Hasegawa Warthog kits in a box in the garage. Taken at UK Airshows (Abingdon / Waddington / St Mawgan) back in the days when Airshows were interesting and there was plenty of variety, I always looked forward to the A-10 display.
  6. These may help a bit. AAC Historic Flt Beaver. 2012.
  7. I can't help with truck type but here's a S61 on a trailer I caught at Cornwall Services in 2019. And a RAF B412 at Newquay, wrapped up ready for road transport back to Akrotiri in 2020. Slightly concerned me that the chap was using a blowtorch to seal the plastic.
  8. That's a stunning build. I like the way you have managed to get exactly the same angles as the original wartime images which were taken at a place I regularly visit to explore and walk my dog.
  9. There are a handful left at Aldergrove and Middle Wallop. I believe 29 (BATUS) Flt AAC in Canada still operate a few.
  10. It's always nice to see something with a bit of colour these days and this Gazelle has been on my wish list for a while, but like most things 'Aviation' I thought my chances of seeing it were very slim. Fortunately I've seen it twice in the last couple of months, firstly at the RAF Northolt Nightshoot in October and again 3 weeks later at Newquay Airport. I wasn't sure what to expect at Newquay, access recently has been hit or miss with Spaceport security turning people away but on this occasion I wasn't bothered by anyone. When I parked up I was intrigued to see the RAF St Mawgan Station Commander and Station photographer waiting the other side of the fence. My curiosity was explained after the Gazelle landed when the Chief of Air Staff jumped out of passenger seat. Needless to say the following day my dog walk took me past Fantasy Printshop where I popped in and bought the Air Graphics AAC update set.
  11. I believe some or all may be Heliops cabs, ZA166 arrived at Exeter for repainting this week.
  12. Interesting to see the tractor with blue lights. Incidentally the tractor ( a B450 ) is showing as a future release on Hannants. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/GE48015?result-token=SOMOt
  13. Many thanks Andy. As a footnote, this CC-177 visited last Friday to collect the support equipment. The weather was awful and I managed to jump out of the car for a few brief dry seconds get a quick snap through the fence. They didn't take everything back home with them, these sonobuoy tubes have found homes in Cornwall. If you know what you are looking for there are probably hundreds from the Nimrod era which are now bollards etc in peoples gardens. With a base plate and filled with cement I'm hoping mine will deter drivers from reversing into my drive.
  14. Many thanks Mark. I was away at the weekend but understand that it left on Sunday. Hopefully we'll see a repeat of this detachment (and other MPAs) in the future. I believe there is still a transport due in to collect equipment.
  15. I'm tempted. I've built the Mach 2 Atlantic and was quite pleased with the end result. The biggest problem with that kit was one fuselage half being longer than the other.
  16. What a great opportunity and a bonus to see a couple with Squadron markings. Pete
  17. Hmmm.... the F-35 looks quite nice without undercarriage😆 Great images Mark.
  18. Likewise, In particular the Aurora. They were regulars at the airfield when it was RAF St Mawgan. Many thanks. Mirrorless cameras seem to be taking over from DSLR these days. The only problem is you'll need a mortgage to afford the kit. I can't really justify the cost at the moment. Pete
  19. The problem I'm finding is that they take up a considerable amount of space, and that's just 1/72 scale. You'd need a very large area to fit two or three 1/48th scale buildings. The EWS is nearly complete. I used Murky scenic water. It looks a bit too smooth, you could almost ride a surfboard on the ones at St Mawgan. I may have to try a bottle of the ripple stuff.
  20. This RCAF CP-140 has been participating in Exercise Joint Warrior and operating from Newquay Airport. This Autumns JW is being directed from RAF St Mawgan which is adjacent to the pan that the Canadians have been using. So, a selection taken over 5 days showing the Aurora coming and going and the CC-130J support aircraft. CC-130J
  21. Very nice. I haven't seen many photos of P-3s from VP-31.
  22. Excellent. Is that a OV-1 between the F-111s
  23. Many thanks for the fascinating info, always good to find out more about these places. You are correct about the site at St Mawgan, I believe they were intended as a Forward Operating Base for Maritime Strike Buccaneers from Lossiemouth. The site was more basic than a 'regular' HAS site with fewer buildings and no annex attached to the shelters. After the Buccs were withdrawn they were used for many exercises. I'm guessing the 05 / 06 ones you refer to were Tornado GR4 / F3? Bar side, your annex is a big old chunk in itself.
  24. I'm not sure what that building is. It is a lot smaller than an Ops building. A lot of HAS sites have what appear to be two Ops buildings but they are sometimes of different designs. There is one building that appears at nearly all RAF HAS sites often quite close to a taxiway and Ops building and would be quite an interesting build. From what I can gather they were part of the Uniter secure comms network. 1/72 drawings And something I'm halfway through, the actual EWS (emergency water supply) is 40' x 40' and they are scattered around HAS sites.
