  1. I have a pdf that shows what was done and it looks pretty comprehensive Did anyone buy them and still have them ?
  2. I am pretty sure this is XA891 There is a picture on the Aviation Photo Company website of it outside and the nose colours are the same. The photograph is before 24th July 1959 as the aircraft was destroyed in a non-fatal accident near Waddington. My guess would be this was shortly after delivery as it is prior to the rest of the nose being painted black which happened some time in 1955 https://www.aviationphotocompany.com/p685250155/h1C2405E#h1c2405e
  3. I know this is an old thread. but jut to let you know that I now have a number of documents that have allowed me to piece together serial and code letter combinations for number of the Hurricanes in the period May-Aug 1940 when they were based at Usworth These include D - P2680 H - P2728 J - P2912 F - P2874 C - P2586 E - P3937 M - P2617 G - P2904 P - P2536 These have come from a combination of the "A" Flight Authorisation Log and a number of logbooks Of these F.G.E.H,B,J all flew on August the 15th in defence of the North East (yet to work out which one was "B"
  4. I suspect that P2617 may well have been repainted at Rollasons, Croydon as it was one of 6 aircraft that made it back from France and were repaired and test flown in the second week of June 1940
  5. Just to set the record straight on P2617. It has been repainted several times during preservation. The aircraft served with "B" flight on 607 squadron and is recorded as flying at least 3 times during the Battle of Britain period. In captivity it has variously worn AF:T and AF:F which are not correct In the archives at Hendon is the "A" Flight Authorisation book which was donated by Wing Commander Francis Blackadder. In this document there is a record of P2617 being loaned to "A" Flight on the 16th July 1940 for a sortie that was cancelled. The aircraft is confirmed as coded "M". I have the logbooks of a number of 607 squadron pilots, including J M Bazin, who flew the aircraft operationally at both Usworth and Tangmere during the Battle of Britain At the same time P2874 was AF:F and flown primarily by Francis Blackadder as "A" Flight Commander Hopefully this clears thing up
  6. Very interested does anyone have any background on which bit of Vickers may have built these
  7. I have to say that in real life this looks fantastic. It is soon to be placed on the wall of my new study. Thanks to my wife and fellow trustee at NELSAM for arranging it Thanks to Steve for the research and work. As the historian for 607 (County of Durham) Squadron and a friend of Francis Blackadder it could not have been more appropriate
  8. Just to clarify P2617 returned from France in June 1940 and was repaired at Croydon by Rollasons, one of 6 from 607 squadron It is recorded as being flown by Jim Bazin on at least one occasion from Tangmere Syd Ashurst is an ex-Vampire pilot from 607 Squadron and has worked alongside myself to gather together all of the squadron history The winged lion painted on the white of the fin flash (V6962 AF-H). is from the photograph album of P J T Stephenson and was taken at RAF Manston and is therefore a Mk II Hurribomber The close up picture referred to by Graham I believe was taken in Scotland before the squadron moved to Martlesham Heath and is not the same as V6962 Tjose who are local can view all of the photpgraphs at the mseum in Usworth as they are now part of the museum archives Regards David Charles
  9. At Least 3 aircraft from 607 had bue undersides VZ305 S WA224 K WA429 L See this list from the 1956 Ouston airshow http://www.scramblemagazine.nl/?option=com_showreports&view=article&ct=GB&id=2341 I will ask a couple of the pilots if they can remember why they wore blue Incidently the majority of the NEAM/NELSAM collection came from my archives including the two on this thread. It is far better to share as this encourages other to share
  10. I have a number of photographs of aircraft from 607 (County of Durham) Squadron that have some diffences in markings from standard Hurricanes. These are Mk I and Mk IIb if they of interest I will post them.
  11. John, Going back to post 27 I can add somrthing to the 608 squadron Wapiti painting. It was by A.M. Alderson. I also have a copy of a photograph that I think was used for reference. There is also another painting by A.M. Alderson of an Avro 504 I will try and scan this at the weekend along with a few 608 Demon potographs that I have. These all came from the widow of Ernest Sockett who was from Marske and had a condiserable interest in local aviation. Amongst these items is a collection of slides of 608 aircraft which I do not have the faclity to convert to electronic format. If anyone can help I will gladly make them available
  12. I have followed this thread with utmost fascination as it demonstrates that their is very little that can be considered as standard. I have been assembling images of 607 squadron for about the last 15 years. During this time I have corresponded with Robert, Graham, Simon and others as it is the enlightened view of the squadron association that all collected material should see the light of day. I just shows to me that you can always learn something new. I also have a number of images which show non standard markings on Hurricanes and Spitfires. If you wish I will start a new thread for these
