  1. planning on making them link together so you can drive trains on them?
  2. I'd say accuracy and price are related on some level - though not necessarily meaning, that the more you pay, the better it is (obviously you can still pay huge sums for crap), research costs money.... I could design a Spitfire model based on a couple of drawings off the internet and a general idea of what one looks like - and I'd still be able to have aprofit margin on it if I sold it to you cheap as chips.... However, if you want an accurate one, arranging and traveling to measure a real one, doing proper CAD drawings, etc, costs money - more accuracy means more research, more measuring, drawing etc required, and a higher cost.... PS. I don't really mean I could design one - wouldn't have a clue where to start....
  3. and if they did? It would still only be "almost" perfect and they'd still get knocked for the remaining flaws.....
  4. And its your choice to do that - and the beauty of the forum is, that unless you have to have a kit the second it goes on sale, you can research the quality of the product here before you hand over your cash.... Having every kit accurate, and costing a fortune, (and I'm not knocking people that like expensive, well produced kits - I have WNW kits and Tamiya's 1/32 Spit) is a sure-fire way to ensure that no new blood enters the hobby - someone has to cater for the first-time buyer......
  5. Same old Airfix arguement - everyone wants quality, but no-one wants to pay Hasegawa prices for it...... Research and Development costs money - hence re-releases of old kits. Airfix kits (generally) are of REASONABLE quality for a REASONABLE price.....
  6. I live in New Zealand and buy most of my new kits, decals and resin from Hannants - even with postage, it is usually cheaper than the local model shop, and I don't usually have to wait more than about 5-10 days for it to arrive - never been stung for import duty or the other charges people in the UK seem to get stung with when importing kits. In short, their service has been pretty damn good, and their pricing competitive with the local options. My one complaint is having to spend a minimum of 30quid to get kits sent abroad - when I want a just released kit (eg Airfix Spit XII), I don't always need another 18 quids worth of bits and bobs to make up a minimum amount.....
  7. its true - do a search on "glyn powell - mosquito" in New Zealand, and you should be able to find something about the mastermind behind the project.... He has spent about 15 years making the jigs, and they have so far built a fuselage for a Canadian static restoration, are nearly finished a restoration to air worthy status of another for Jerry Yagen in the states, (search "Avspecs NZ") plus Glynn is a large way through rebuilding/remaking an airworthy example for himself.... There are facebook pages for both these sites too....
  8. Bought this kit, opened the box, looked horrible, gave it away and bought the 1/32 Hasegawa one with these markings instead...... Looking at yours, maybe I should have keep it.....
  9. Isn't "Navalizing" aircraft the easiest way to make a beautiful design pig-ugly? Think Hornet v Sea Hornet, Mosquito v Sea Mosquito.... (PS - this is in no way a comment on your modelling skills - I'd be impressed if any of mine came out that well....)
  10. Anyone know when this is due out? Thanks John
  11. I'm using one on a proposed Lancaster diorama - my excuse is - "PROVE that there were never ANY in RAF use". My one is painted an Olive Drab sort of colour, and the back story is it was "appropriated" for the war effort from another service....
  12. Haven't done this for canopy covers for aircraft, but did try it on some armour years ago - teabags were used, and from memory, balsa aircraft "dope" over the top, to shrink it slightly and make it go taut. Not sure I'd try and get all the wrinkles out, thogh - might look a bit more interesting with a few left in?
  13. Considering most of the aircraft are sitting outside, they seem to be in remarkably good condition - regular maintenance/re-painting?
  14. for the last 3 days - a P-51D, 5 Harvards (usually doing formation flying), a Catalina and a couple of Tiger Moths.....
  15. Corsair looks good - what scale? Pilot looks like his clothing needs a coat of matt.....
  16. Looks pretty good to me!
  17. I'm not sure what you used to write with on the floats, but if its some sort of marker pen, I'm not surprised it shows through the paint. When I worked for a manufacturing company making products out of electro-galv steel, it was a constant battle to stop fabricators writing on their work with vivid marker pens, as no amount of solvents would remove it sufficently to stop it showing through the light colours most parts were powdercoated. Even an orbital sander was no guarantee of its complete removal, as it seemed to soak into the material, and leech(?) back out through the top coats....
  18. Hi Does anyone know a release date for this reissue? Thanks
  19. seem to recall the Mosquito at Cosford is supposed to replicate Gibson's a/c - though personally, I have my doubts about the colour scheme
  20. Nice! What colour did you use for the annodised finish?
  21. Two stage PR/Bomber Mosquito would virtually be a new kit - I'm not a Mossie expert but I would have thought the changes would be at least - both engines, both nacelles, canopy, cockpit, nose, and bomb bay.... that's pretty much everything apart from the undercarriage, tail, and wings, though possibly the bulk of the engines could be modifed and re-used......
  22. Me too - ever since I saw the full-size replica in the museum at Omaka in a diorama setting......
