Hi Are there correction sets currently available for the Airfix Seafire 47 chin, and the nose/prop of the academy Spit XIV? BOth in 1/48th, of course... Thanks

I have to admit I don't really get scaled down 'replicas' - especially as most (French 75% Mosquito and Mk26 Spit spring to mind) don't really capture more than a passing ressemblance to the real thing, and as the originals are beautiful examples of form, function and engineering, its should almost be a crime to use the originals name.... and the flying experience would also be so far removed from the original as well, I really don't see the point......

Will the brass tarnish overtime if left unpainted? or are you planning on clearcoating it anyway? -
Thanks, Chris

...between flat base and flat clear coat? and, will you get a satin finish if you mix flat and gloss clear coats? (acrylics) Thanks

Cool collection - always thought the F-104 looked a bit odd without the tip tanks though..... Had the Italian one with the cat and mouse on the side years ago.......

Agree totally with this - and the closer the end of the build gets, the more disenchanted I get, and then its just a struggle to get motivated to do the last few bits properly - usually undercarriages, aeerials, etc...

Not being picky or anything - Pearl Harbour was 1941....... -
I think you've got your time zones muddled - UK and the states are BEHIND NZ time - UK approx 12 hours (depending on daylight savings), and The US has 5 (I think?) different zones - roughly 16 hrs behind...

A Few `Historic' RAF Jets

they could do with another new building, but one designed to hold aircraft this time...anyway...rant over!! Cheers everybody, Tony O I take it you don't like the cold war building then? While I can take or leave "architecturally designed" buildings for museums, I get annoyed at how over-full they generally end up - designed to hold a certain number of aircraft, - then stuffed to bursting point. The AAM museum at Duxford being an example of this - designed to hold about 20 aircraft with easy viewing of the exhibits - and now that a B-24, SR-71, etc have been jammed in, if you didn't use the raised walkway, its the only building in the world where you could conceivably walk out of it again without really seeing the B-52...and suspending B-25 and Avenger from the ceiling means you can't view those either. Sorry - just thought I'd add my rant to your one... PS Nice models, by the way...pleasant change from all the pink ones... -
Thanks, guys PS. SHAR - have got the lionroar set - quality product - hope I don't mangle too much of it!

Attention IJN experts..... I've decided that my first ship kit (in recent memory anyway) is going to be the Tamiya Yamato (not the new release) and have been looking at aftermarket wooden decks on the lucky model site. Two things are immediately apparent - huge difference in price, and secondly every set has the decking as a different colour/type of wood. At the moment, I'm leaning towards the Voyager Models set, as it also includes a resonable amount of etch (and its in stock), or the KAM set, as it is pre-cut (but OOS). Basically, I'm soliciting opinions on the pros and cons of these sets, (fit, accurancy, deck colour, etc), and also - what is the best way to cut said wood - scalpel or saw? Thanks John

Not wingnut wings then?

do you mean factory fresh, or used? Repaints would more than likely have been carried out with what ever was in the sqn store - building paint, a/c paint, vehicle paint etc..... This was my reasoning behind using RAF Dark Green and Black on my 2500GAL refuelling truck......
-
I'm picking one of them will be a Snipe, as the first reproduction from TVAL flew at an airshow last weekend...
-
Yes - I think they are like the ones on the Skyhawk - gravity will deploy them as airspeed/air pressure drops....

Heard that this kit was released as a snapfit - is this still the case, or is glue required? Thanks -
Hi-jack away, Danni - I've had my question answered.... ......and, my interest is more in an RNZAF Ventura than a Harpoon, anyway....
-
excellent!

Interesting - the 4 days it was in NZ covered a weekend as well. My packages from Hannants and Amazon to NZ quite often take 4-6 days - must be quicker going downhill.....

Thanks Guys. Troy: I am aware of most of the faults mentioned in the posts you quote, and will be fixing the obvious ones - radio depth, position of fuse windows, pilots seat/stick position, and nav table pillars, but am not sure about the floor. 8" works out to be about 4mm, and I'm not sure whether this will be noticed looking through the cockpit glazing - won't know until I actually start this build. As for the bomb bay depth, I'm not too concerned with this, as once its glued to its base, this probably won't be noticeable at all - a lower bomb bay roof may actually make it easier to see some of the etch I plan to bung in there (already purchased, so may as well use it). I know this isn't correct, but I personally am a "out of sight, out of mind" modeller - for this reason, undercarriage bays seldom get a huge amount of attention, either. As for the bomb load - the idea is to have them sitting on the flightpath bomb trolleys.... Thanks for the info tho - I'll be modding some of the stuff mentioned... John

Thanks guys - I have the Belcher 4000lb bomb (plus one from the Airfix Mosquito) and the Eduard bomb rack set, which I think is meant to be 3 bombs across, - I'll try flightpath for 1000lb bombs
-
What size bombs are the ones supplied in the kit supposed to represent? 250lb? 500lb? Are there aftermarket options for 1000lb bombs? Thanks

NIce display case - wouldn't fit many of those in the average house! -
In that sort of sea, and with the ship at "battle stations" (or whatever its called - I know zip about ships - I'm just guessing from the position of the guns/turrets) how much of the crew would be on deck/visible? I'm guessing the AA guns would be manned, but what else? Love it anyway - especially the seascape....
