I'm not getting much modelling done at the moment, I'm tackling some 1:1 scale house decorating, lots of priming and sanding back, new flooring and skirting boards, I'll call that AM enhancements. When the weather improves I can finish re-laying the patio and garden path, the fun of being retired, I was hoping for wall to wall modelling.
Yeah, same here Bob. With Summer approaching the jobs list is growing too.....decorating, driveway amendments etc etc......
Keep your chin up......look forward to a rainy day, good excuse to sit and catch up on the bench.

Love the mud effects, Simon !!
Fantastic work, as always !!

Thanks both, appreciate that......try'd out some new process's here and there and some experiments with new materials like ink and tried airbrushing Tamiya panel liner.....That came out great for some subtle shading, and to darken areas of the mud in the corners etc. I'm trying to pull together an approach with transparent colours and effects. I'm going to give matt varnish mixed with a hint colour next.

Hi Bob, thanks for that mate....and yes, staying safe and keeping busy, Hope everything is OK your end.........see your back on aircraft for a bit....

Afternoon all
Been flitting around from one project to the next.....so ended up on the Elephant for it's final stages. This stage being mud and dust. I've finished the base coats for the mud, next will be lighter shades and then an over dusting with a scumble glaze. The mud itself is just pigments set with a mix of matt varnish and Tamiya x20 thinner.
Well thats it for now, have to get some other tasks done today....then back on this I hope over the weekend.
Cheers all.

Ah, and that's another thing. I think that I probably asked once before (memory's getting worse), what kind of torch have you got?
John.
Hi John, I picked up something like this off Ebay......handy tool.

John.
Cheers Roger……I’m practicing mud with pigments at present so this was one of my experiment’s. I like the technique, but intend to interstate with some mig/Ammo terrains materials next one. I have a Pzkfw III sitting in the cabinet so that’s next 🤨Thanks John, and my pleasure mate. One tip if you pick some up, burn off the black paint it comes finished in. Leaves a surface perfect for paint……I used my small hand torch.
thanks again both for the 👍

Very nicely done. Great weathering. Where did you get the chain from that's on the track link stowage pins?
Cheers Lee..........the chain I got off AliExpress. It's the smallest I could find.....here's the link.

I got the 0.5mm, bought a few packs to last me some time.

Sorry bud didnt mean to upset you................... Don't know if Ursula rings a bell....Panther GB ............well that was a costly one too for me but it was my friends on here making me see the funny side that aloud me to move on, was hoping to do the same for you too........... the only difference between yours and mine was at least you had something to save ..........anyway progress is looking very nice indeed the mud layers are beautiful especially the normally hard to do right upper surfaces............on point for another stunning build.
Hi Steve......no upset at all mate, really. I had to chuckle, as you were smack on point with butterfingers , I should have not try'd to do something else, same time as having it in my hands balanced on a cutting matt .....and just when I'd finished the PE (which was a nightmare in itself)..........thanks for the positive comments.........and to be honest, Ursula was a cracking project, not sure why you did junk it........you were brave from the outset to try a subject like that as you did.....following a photo takes some skill and patience.......we should have a GB with "Pic a picture" as the subject......
Cheers

Two things about this model Simon. You certainly know how to make the thing look dirty and worked hard, and you also know how to replicate wood. Both aspects look good. Nice job.
John.
Cheers both for that....... I'm picturing this one within the Halbe Pocket, being a late war Panther G. From the pictures I've seen they were very worn and dirty......... I've done the opposite for the Kursk Panther on another build blog......as it was a first issue Panther D.......
.........On the wood John is actual wood....American Basswood from Hobby Craft, just stained and dusted with pigments.

Good to see this going again and making good progress. Hope you soon find the armament for it. 👍
On the armament point echen, I'm not sure now as the turret I originally intended with a primer red finish....doesn't look too bad now. Maybe I'll have a vote at the end when I place the 37mm or stay with the turret......
Cheers both

Afternoon all......seems I haven't posted much on this one since May last year when the base camo' went on.......well I have jumped ahead somewhat to 90% near complete. Sorry about that, and not posting the intermediate stages to this point. Here's where it stands though.....the turret isn't yet finalised with it's weathering and dust layers, but the main chassis is nearly there other than its light dust layer which will be done with the turret to match.
. There are two figures in the works and should show up at some point in the future......
That's it for now chap's.....next I hope will be in the RFI section complete along with the Panther G with Flak.
Cheers all

Thanks everyone for the comments to keep it in the active project schedule........appreciate it and decided to move on with it as I said with a new flak piece in place of the dropped one..
On 2/17/2022 at 5:41 AM, M3talpig said:OOOOHHH i bet there was some blue language bouncing around the workshop then......perhaps a name change from Redcoat ....to say ....butterfingers
..and yes Steve, 'butterfingers" it is ....that was a costly drop......£35 including the PE upgrade set.....sod it .
Anyway,...........
........decided to keep moving onward with the weathering of the lower chassis and the wood plank insert ready for the 37mm Flak....(when I can pick one up). Here's some shots at this stage........it still needs the alcohol and matt varnish coat yet to fix all the pigments etc, and matt finish any shine where not needed. Finally last will be wet areas on the mud and oily patches here and there......and some tools and junk on the rear deck area. I don't want to put these on yet until the 37mm is done and in place........
Off to do some on my Kursk Panther.......cheers all.

Hi John, nice job mate with all the usual attention to detail.......pleasure to see as always. I must take a lead and start to do detail research on my next projects to make all the additions you do. Sometimes I end going with "that'll do".......... Keep it up and now I have tome I'm catching up on all blogs I'll keep up with the Cromwell.
Cheers

That's a real shame Simon, obviously you have to like it and be happy with it but even back in 2019 I thought it looked great!

Hi Chaps.....and thanks for the encouragement to keep ploughing on with it...with this in mind and after a long think about what to do next I've decided to change the Flak from the 30mm; due to a calamity in the build when I dropped it and caused un fixable damage ....to a 37mm Flak gun. I need to try and get one on Ebay for a good price.....then put the project back on the work schedule and see where it goes.....saved from the breakers yard at the last minute...
Hope to post later in the year next steps........as I'm finishing a Kursk Panther I started some time ago and a King Tiger....
Cheers all...

Evening all........first bash at the camo' scheme. Roughly based on very later war seen on some in Berlin in '45. For some reason I couldn't balance the colour as it is in the flesh, but this is the closest I could get. The base yellow isn't as green as it came out........
All the best

Afternoon all..........spent the last couple of days on the base Dunkelgelb. Decided to do a mix of my own and brightened up the tone to prepare for weathering down the line. Might warm it up a little also with some golden yellow; then on to the camo' scheme. I'm using as a guide the tiger illustrated on the front cover of "Panzers in Berlin 1945" by Panzerwrecks. Based on the image the side fenders were majority missing, but no sign of a Red Oxide band, so I imagine it was repainted well after it had lost the fenders in previous actions prior to the last battle in Berlin.
Overall highlight painting of detail has been done also, with some AB on last to soften the brush marks.
Well, off to get the running gear airbrushed and all other parts like tools base coated.
Bye for now
Simon.

I have to agree with the previous comments Glynn, a really nice job all round.
I have to be honest, your self critique of too dark etc. isn't the case IMHO. I feel that Axis vehicles, especially in the East were well worn and considerably grimy, dirty and filthy was the reality......a consequence of nothing to replace it very often, so make a mend was the name of the game. I don't really think you can over do winter camo' and dirt filters really.
Nice job.....

Hi Jura
As everyone has said, nice clean "museum" build. I have this in the stack to take a go at sometime in the future........might put it on the list next. Having once been in a museum design and building career myself, I think the idea of putting an enlarged image behind, and maybe some text like you would see in a museum would make a very good backdrop.....just like you would see in a place like the Imperial War Museum in London.
One quick question.....what did you mean by "strengthened"? Is that something regarding the actual production back in the day, or something you had to do in the build?
Cheers
Simon.

Really nice job Kristjan, good all round. Motivates me to get my Kursk Panther finished too.

Thanks Darryl......while working on the Panther's and the Elephant I've had a change in direction......and as they say..."no plan survives contact with the enemy"
Once I put the Sockelbrun on; for some reason it just didn't look right.........so, I had some colour layouts in my archive, and I'm sure there's one showing a red primer base with some rough Dunkelgelb camo' put on, as an in field last minute thing prior to going straight into combat, direct from the factory.....I'm searching for it at present....hope to find it and take the plunge. So it's changed over to a factory finish. The kit comes with factory chalk markings too......which I'll put on prior to camo' stage.
Cheers all
Simon.
