  1. the flaps on a Stirling werent Fowler flaps they were a a slightly less efficient predesessor called Gouge flaps that when deployed didnt have the gap that the fowler flap has, checking out a Sunderlands wing and flap might offer some help generally even though they were not the same as the Stirling.
  2. How many people are there out there that got perfect canopys i wonder..?, the 2 kits myself and my son ordered from airfix the day they got them in were perfect, no cracks or distortion, i have no idea what this distortion looks like can somebody post a pic of it?
  3. The cowlings do fit perfectly but the assemblys do benefit from dry fitting ( my typhoon build is on here as is my sons) It is very easy to get things out of alignment but it is also possible with a very small amount of tweeking to make tge panels removeable
  4. It lloks like Concorde to me, wha ts wrong withnthe kit, granted its not the easiest build but didnt think it that bad...
  5. Maybe gone a little ott on the chips over the cam but thats the way we like it, as for chips on the invasion stripes, it wore very quickly http://www.stickandthrottle.com/Hawker-Typhoon-Photo-8 Theres a superb sharp version of the image you posted directly above in the airfix typhoon mag supplement actually showing quite a few paint chips sharply and very very patchy worn paint
  6. Thanks for the suggestion and it is a valid and well debated one. In the case of model aircraft my opinion is that invasion stripes are one of those occasions where i do them wrong on purpose in order to make them look right... If that makes sense I think it is very very difficult to get them 'realistic' enough and not make them look as if they have been done badly by accident , interestingly though there are as many shots of the invasion stripes perfect neatly done as there are of them brushed and white washed so i think either method is perfectly valid and just a preference of the modeller
  7. Richard will post pics later but even though you are supposed to decide frrom the outset as to wether the cowls are on or off, the model is that well done that with a very small amount of work they can be made 'take on and offable' to coin a wallaceism . I was going to do mine with the chin cowl removed but decided late on that it was lacking something at the front and with a small tweek I was able to build the bottom cowl off the model and clip it in place.
  8. Personally i think it knocks everything into a cocked hat and is now THE benchmark The plumbing of the engine is a work of art and young mr Airfix CAD chappy can be rather proud of himself, you look at the instructions and thinks no way that will fit/jiggle/slot in there, but it does, every time, The cowlings are void of interior detail but wit fit in place if one wishes them too, personally im leaving em in the spare box after using them for masking, theres no way im hiding that engine and its pipework
  9. Every time we have gone to add a bit of wire or an extra bit here andthere , Airfix have thought of everything, the wiring loom andpiping on the engine is amazing. There really is very little for aftermarket to add, even the instrument decals are superb, So far, if a part hasnt fitted perfectly its because we have put it on wrong Because as modellers we havebto gripe about something, the only thing i can come up with is the main gear legs are in 2 halves somi will have to clean up the seam, its disgusting and heinous and ruins the model entirely
  10. Airfix have, IMHO, raised the bar for everyone with this kit, the texturing and patina they have achieved is truly excellent and i think all the other companies, Tamiya, Trumpeter, Hasegawa, HK, ZM, will turn to this style of finish, Plenty will argue its not true scale or the rivets are toobig or the panel lines techincally too deep but i think it is the way to go and by far the best i have ever seen. Bring on the 1/24 Swordfish, ( or Gladiator, or Sea fury or Corsair) If Mr Airfix reads these forums, is say to him, do more of this, one a year , you have raised the bar and i will buy everything you produce in 24th
  11. Theres less ejector pin holes than on the Mosquito, some of the filling is unnecessary depending On what you want to do with the model, All parts and sprues in both kits were perfect and all present and correct
  12. iIRC Tamiya do their own lighting stes for these trucks, Model and haobby worls in lancaster usually have a few in, if not will order them for delivery within a week
  13. Personally not fussed at all about the lack of the Vulcan, not interested in seeing lazily stooging around the sky unlike its real displays in the early 90's, just would rather not see it at all than see a shadow of its former self, a contentious view that will rile many im sure but hey ho.
  14. If you post pics or explain what it is you require it would help, there are other alternatives that may lend themselves to what you require without going the injection moulding route which i think you will find surprisigly expensive. Im not saying this will be the case and injection moulding may well be required but lets have a look at the parts first.. Mark
  15. Brilliant will buy one asap, Without being funny though, you have saved me buying the magazine ........
  16. Could be the Typhoon OR the ex VFS P47......
  17. anytime now i hope, my post enquiring on a release date was answered with a specific 6 th of june for its release so given that thats only 7 weeks away, would have thought the next issues i hope
  18. Out of interest The p38 had an Mcrit of 0.69., it was to say the least dangerous at high speed and not capable of getting anywhere near mach 1. An mcrit of 0.69 means that at 520 mph , air over parts of the airframe had locally accelerated to 750 plus, causing all sorts of nasty problems , pilots had to ensure the speed of a p38 was kept well under the 500 mph mark for safety
  19. Not actually sure that drone is real or even capable of flying, All aircraft have a centre of gravity which is crucial to stable flight. For sake of argument it should sit about 25, mayebe 30% mean aerodynamic chord Going off the layout of that drone and the stock rc engine way up front, i cant even imagine how it would balance with regards to the c of g...... Just an observation but a late april fool possibly......
