had to buy a new one myself two weeks ago as mine was the same type and went bye bye. Thing is id had it for 4 years and it had never missed a beat, and did a hell of a lot of work on static and rc models, what actually happened to mine was the crank shaft sheared!!! Right behind the counterweight .

I saw a conversion for the price to £ somewhere this last week, cant remember wher but it was £249.99

Started a new post and didnt put it with the other RIAT one as i thought this could be a post show discussion... My opinion, after 2 or three VERY poor years, this one was actually VERY good, enjoyed it immensley with a great mix of static and flying , one or two great aircraft missing but only my personal choice . wonderlands stand was absolutely fantastically full of bargains this year, picked up a Trumpy 1/32 f14 and f18 for 69 quid each and a mig 29 for 40 quid Weather was acceptable and could have been a LOT worse. Only real gripe is as usual the terrible price and quality of the food, its pretty disggusting really in every sense of the word, why RIAT dont enforce some sort of realiseable quality control i have no idea. Had a great day and if you are on the fence about going tommorrow, go for it!! mark
-
Well its great to see that RIAT must have taken onboard comments about the last 2 years as this year is looking very good indeed, having just seen the news though, the same cant be said for the weather!!!! Aaaarrggghh!! Am camping there from Thurs to monday, looks like its wellies and waterproofs time. Atleast this year they have the infrastructure to deal with it so cancellation wont be an option this time.......

The Montforton book includes the most amazing detail, rivet head sizes, correct spacings, all formers drawn and even a full set of plots to draw your own in terms of amount and accuracy of detail, it is unbeatable i think, i would thoroughly recommend getting it ( or the cheaper seperately available plans)
-
Montforton press plans without a shadow of doubt IMHO , measured mm for mm of a real Spit Mark The book should still be available, i got mine from ian allen, its pricey though, around 70 quid i sem to remember

Picked up the kit myself for the princely sum of 142 sovereigns of the realm, verdict..... Its superb and better value for money than the ZM Skyraider which with bombs is knocking £40 dearer, there are two SMALL gripes tho, Firstly, Decals, a bland and uninteresting choice Secondly, and nothing a little scratchbuilding wont cure, the rear fuselage interior is totally void of and frame/stringer detail, as are the U/C wells in the nacelles, im aware the Mitchell sits with its doors shut but i like everything (bled) open, so its accurate in that sense and only a personal gripe about the wells. Verdict, dam good kit, i would recommend it and its running it at a simmilar cost to a full rrp Airfix Mossy and is a similar size. as an interesting but purely personal footnote, I would say ZM beware, they have the ability to choose superb subjects but the kits( Skyraider) is vastly overpriced IMHO , with the Revell 219 on its way as well as the ZM kit, i bet you will be able to buy 4 revel for 1 ZM and even if you threw all the aftermarket you could at the Reveel 219 i bet you would still be under the ZM price by a chunk and (again IMHO) have a better kit...... BAC Lightning F-6 flies again in the UK.
markjames68 replied to Lightningboy2000's topic in Aviation Photography
There nowt like havin that kinda money sat on a runway ready to roll, it does focus the mind somewhat!! , love my RC and my static modelling, flown a few jets, all good so far, though did completely bin 2 grandsworth of 1/4 scale 109g6 a few years ago,its not the cost tho in my opinion, its the time and effort that it takes is what makes my adrenalin flowing on a first flight ( this was i assume the first show flight of the Lightning, meaning itshad an hr in the air test flying beforehand) mark -

markjames68 replied to Lightningboy2000's topic in Aviation Photography
Theres probably about 10 grand in it, the kit you are thinking of is Airworld and 1/6 scale The one you see here is Ted Alisons 1/4 scale scratchbuilt model Mark -
ahh very interesting idea, ill see if i can find some in town ! Many thanks for the idea! Mark

Just got an Airfix Bentley and want to upgrade the kit as i go to include real wire mesh on the model where appropriate instaed on the injection moulded areas that are in the kit, does anyone know of a suitable supplier of such or a good non modelling source for it? Mark
-
wow guys many thanks what a great response learnt a few things too,...... if i do it (should i ?) it will be the ZM kit in EDSG(?) and Korean black and white stripes now..... mark
-
Bit tricky as to wether to put this here or not due to the dates but hope its ok... I love the black and white stripes on an FAA seafury with the sky and Dark grey camo and thinks its one of the most attractive schemes of all time. Im just about to build a ZM Skyraider and thought how it might look pretty dam good in the same scheme..... Couple of questions though to those who know more than I, firstly, i assume the blcak and white stripes on the Sea Fury are not Invasion stripes in the true sense as the sea fury didnt fly till late 45?? secondly as the skyraiders first flight was very near (if slightly after) the Sea furys, a what if with the stripes is kind of semi doable in terms of timelines as we had the AEW ones with Suez stripes on.... Anyway rambling a bit but what do you guys think? potentially good idea ? or a way to spoil a bloody dear kit? mark

Many thanks great news, get paid a week on friday too!!

Does anyone have an idea yet as to the availability and Uk suppliers of the Hk 1/32 B25? Ive heard 2 conflicting reports in terms of supplier, (Pocket bond or Tiger hobbies) and wildly disparate price quotes from between £106 and £249 Im pretty sure that the kit is already available in th U.S. but again not 100% certain and i hear about people having bought them and then others talking about just having pre ordered one.. Hannants have some bits n bobs for the kits in but they are listing the kit itself as future release, i assume they will have to get them from a wholesaler.... Anyway, basically, i really want one and am very impatient!!!! Mark

I would be very wary of judging any tones or shades from this pic, if you look at the top rear of the cowl or the rudder hinge line you will see they do not conform to what one would expect, the cowl in particular should be very dark ( on the pic at its top rear face) but is actually white, the floats seem touched in on the photo, the rudder and back end of the floats just does not ring true visually to me and looks 'tweeked' for whatever reason
-
I was under the impression pocket bond were importing these..... Hannants also has the listed for future arivals( again sourced from pocket bond) lookin at what i could see on tinterweb they were gonna run at around £179 retail. Do you know something i dont, in terms of no one here IS importing them ? Also they are currently available in the States so how come a preorder from HLJ? Regards Mark

Regardles of what you added the show WAS poor and smaller compared to previous shows, you get less and less every year for more money, i pointed out that this year was looking up, ( the su27 you mentioned would have been interesting if it flew) I said raptors would be nice, not the be all end all, it was i am sure you will agree an impressive machine to see fly ( without the ridiculous boxing promoter at the beggining) I will be going this year in the hope that things have improved as i have been for the last 15 years in its various guises, but to get my money next year they need to get better
-
A10s were there last year (even though its display was ended after about 1 min due to a problem) very unlikely i would have thought to see them this year,) Raptors would be nice but id would guess unlikely again as they will class the major American draw as the Osprey and no one likes to take second billing as it were. as for Apaches , that is possible, there are Brit ones and foreign ones that seem to be a regular occurance. Last years show was bordering on very poor indeed, it was lacklustre and had nothing really of any note, and off past years the static was terrible , this year SEEMS to be shaping up better so fingers crossed .

Having followed the Hk B25 kit and various discussions on it on this and other forums, am i right in saying it is due to be available to purchase in the next week or so, and if so, Who is importin/selling it in UK? mark

Were the ribs extension JUST extensions to the existing ribs or was the entire rib new? was the belly tank and the rudder the same, IE, just extenxions of the original F1 parts or were they entirely new parts? mark
