  1. Tamiya paints are IMHO the easiest and best to use and i prefer to use their own thinners, simply open a pot, fil it almost to the top with thinners, shake, and you are ready to go. Practice on a couple of old airframes first as aim , distance from model and timing of the trigger on the pass al require practice but are very quick to get the hang of, Ignore preshading (imho) but you can weather panel edges darker with oils straight over the Tamiya paint very soon after application, you could try post shading the centre of the panels after adding a scoche of white to your base colour. tamiya XF's dry dead matt and will need a coat of Tamiya clear gloss for decals then re matting with matt clear but a terriffic finish is obtainable with this method I tend to spray at around 30 psi for basic stuff, dropping to slightly thinner paint and 15 psi for fine lines
  2. My 2 penn'orth.. Personally, i will build anything subject matter wise if it appeals to me, if i open the box and it looks like what.ever it is supposed to and i cant see any discrepancies in terms of shape then i am happy, i will never compare a kit to a plan , partly because if it looks right to me then i am happy with it and partly because i have been a draughtsman/ illustrator in the aero undustry for years and with the exeption of 2 drawings havent seen a truly accurate one.... I actually think theonly thing to blame for the seemingly ever increasing requirement on the behalf of some modellers is simply the internet, ( it is however for many of the same reasons responsible for the amount of large scale kits we have at our disposal) Think back say 25 years or so, the only reference we had as modellers as to what was out and how to build it was Scale Models International and Airfix magazines, i still have the odd one lying around, black and white images, badly brushpainted images with models bult with tube glue and no filler... But we accepted it as the norm as it was what we had available to us, reference would require the purchase of books or plans, allcosting money, now we have billions of reference pics and plans at our fingertips, hundreds of incredibly good modellers suppling articles to sites like this free of charge for us all to learn from, As modellers and consumers we are always one step ahead of the industry that supplies us i. Terms of our requirements, that in essence is what keeps the industry going and'on its toes' Variety is the spice of life, no one is perfect, no company is perfect and no kit is perfect but as modellers we are well catered for and as such think that makes us moan a little more, we are in effect and IMHO .. Spoilt brats;)
  3. The finished buccaneer is already on here under 'put on for dad' in the works in progress section
  4. Colours are tge same but sporting british roundels
  5. Its Scratchers 1/24 resin kit available here for about 130 quid, terrific fun build and a good sized model at the end of it, The following photographs are of it complete, the decals are robbed off a Harrier kit and am aware they not accurate but its more about the fun of building for me than total accuracy, the scheme is semi accurate but heavily weathered as i like them and it was done like this to sit with my sons 1/24 harrier in a similar semi accurate but whiffy fun scheme Hope you like the finished product....
  6. Yes, will be painted in a semi accurate/ spurious winter camo, pics later to show painting underway
  7. Airbrakes will be put on right way up when added properly!! Does anyone know if the Buccaneer ever sported the white/ grey winter snow camo scheme carried by the Harrier? My son is doing a Harrier in the same scale and in the winter camo scheme and i thought they would look good together if it ever actually existed, if it did , does anyone have pics?
  8. Dam good fun to build , for the most part the fit is good when cleaned up, few sink marks here and there but have built plenty of mainstream injection kits that are harder and need more detail adding, hopefully my son will post pics of the open engine bays and further progress later .
  9. Neither of those sorry but wow, like the Sharkits one a lot!! The site im thinking of had a huge list of photographs down the left side of the page of all sorts of odd prototypes, it seemed to go on forever. Thanks so far though chaps, both of those are new to me !! Mark
  10. came across a really interesting website a month or so ago that specialised in 1/72 odd aircraft and prototypes but cant find it now, does anyone have any idea of the one i might be talking about and can you direct me to it please. many thanks mark
  11. Many thanks for the reply and the link, should be able to mess the side image around on a copier to get it to the right size, might try just working off photos and gut instinct to mod the fusleage to your above description Mark
  12. I currently have a ZM skyraider on display and a Trumpy one in the pending pile as its one of my favourite aircaft, however in an effort not to have two almost identical aircraft on display i was giving thought to a conversion, making a tool and vacforming a new canopy isnt an issue, but am strugging to find specifics on the mod to the fuselage. it is a wider fuselage but where is it wider ? Is the cowl the same? Does anyone have a drawing that might compare a single seater with a 4 seater? Im hoping it might be possible to use existing fuselage with some carefully fashioned spacers and vent style cuts on the top and flat underside with some milliput.... Mark The fin seems to be taller too with more keel area...
  13. Visited the victory about 3 yrs ago, she is absolutely amazing and a beautiful thing to see, i was amazed by how well she is looked after and the seemingly immaculate condition she is in, am currently building. 1/32 scratchbuild of her from the pics i took amongst other references ( about 82 inch hull if i recall correctly)
  14. Very moving, absolutely teriffic Thanks
  15. Released as in actually in local shops etc?
  16. kane is fom alien, as is the Nostromo, but not the Sulaco, so not sur if you meant aliens and sulaco or alien and Nostromo.....
  17. Am a good way into building the 1/32 hobby boss P61 and it is a terrific kit so far( am aware of the A/B issue but not rellay concerned too much about that ) however, upon assembling the main wings, theres a terrible misshaped depression on the outer panel upper surface of both wings, im damn sure its not on the real aircraft, it would appear to be born from a set of badly lofted outer wing ribs and it us amazingly obvious when looking at the aircraft from any where near a front view. The top of the wing surface when lookin from the front should describe a straight line to the tip but the kit has approximately a 2mm shallow in the middle of the outer panel. For those that have the kit have a look, a tried a spar but is so far out that correcting it that way messes up the shape of the wing something chronic. I dont know how to do photos very well on an i pad but have taken pics and ifnanyone wants to see them PM me you mobile and ill send them, perhaps you could even post them here.... Mark
  18. Have ordered one from model and hobby world in lancaster, was hoping for about £400 but according to the rep the kits are on a ship at the moment and due in shops here in about 12 days to 2 weeks but prices arent yet finalised and it could be between 500 and 570 sovereigns of the realm.... Mark
  19. Anyone know the precise (ish?!) date of the uk release of the new 1/6 Sherman kit? Mark
  20. According to a thread on LSP, the HB p61 is available in the states, is it here yet or if not when is it due? Mark
  21. ZM is the likely culprit going off a few threads across the tinterweb
