  1. Ok, so after 3 years of watching builds in Germany one of these came up on ebay... http://www.den-stuka-bauen.de/modell.htm Its worth having a look on google at Hachete Stuka as you will see some in depth builds and it looks like a terrrific kit/ model. At 140 issues and 8 quid an issue (1120 quid!) i wasnt willing to pay the full amount or work through it for 140 weeks. I did however hold out hope i could get a full set of parts at a heavily reduced rate from someone who had collected them all but decided not to build it. Anyway on Friday i managed just that and got a full set on Ebay uk for way less than half the cover price. ( if anyone else is mad and wants one there are full sets available on ebay.de. My mojo has been languishing of late and i have been looking hard for a big mojo restorer as i have been building stuff but it seems like im just going through the motions, my hope is to regain it by tackling This monster and detailing it to the nth degree and putting on a small (?!) base or diorama with some of the structure showing perhaps as if in a factory or at a repair station.I have posted a few builds on here but nothing in as much depth as some of the cracking long term builds we see here so i hope to redress this over the next few months...... Im currently gathering information and went to Ian Allen in Manchester but only managed to get one usefull book so if anyone has any good detail pics they can send i would be grateful. Anyway , hoping to recieve the kit around the end of the week and looking forward to doing a mega in depth long build on here and as a bonus have a half term coming up that i hope to spend some time working on it.......
  2. Personally i would postshade with a bit of tamiya nato black , then maybe even do that again with a scoche of white added, then after a gloss varnish on the black use a medium to light gray watercolour in the panel lines.....
  3. If you go to buy an o gauge loco from tower models of say a br9f or similar, you are looking at around 800 quid roughly, so this is good value really, however.. The DjH locos are All brass and white metal, the partworks ones have some of the larger parts is injection moulded plastic so dont have the same weight, they can look as good when painted though ...
  4. Will be getting one of these...
  5. It seems years since it was announced, still waiting....
  6. About 1/48 i think, maybe 1/43 cant remember, g gauge would be better--- 1/32
  7. hi guys, have a set of drawings for a 330 P3 , surely one of the greatest looking cars ever.... Am trying to get things together to have a go at a biggish scale scratchbuild but struggling to source any plans or detail pics of the chassis/ monocoque, does anyone have anything plans wise or photograph wise that might help..? Many thanks mark
  8. The Gee Bee R2 , love it to bits but it was a dangerous thing to be in to say the least, i loveits ugliness it looks amazing. Interestingly though a few years ago an Italian designer came up with this.... http://www.airworld.online.de/Gemeinsame%20Bilder/Motormodelle/GeeBee/DSC_1124.JPG a Gee Bee R3, i am a Spitfire lover and still think the R3 is one of the most awesome sexiest planes ever designed, it has Only so far been flown as RC scale models tho, no one has committed to building a real one. If as they say, if it looks right it will fly right, that being the case, wow this should fly amazingly....
  9. Lotsvof the already mentioned, plus.... Murphy 's War
  10. Personally i would join and finish the cowl accurately , then.. Put a parting plane around the join line and basically lay up a 2 part glass mould after applying plenty of mould release agent, also use epoxy as polyester resin will eat the plastc, after that you free to mold as many as required. Ive heavily oversimplified the process here but its not difficult Check out a website like www.b1modelproject.com Bob who runs the site is a master of mouldnig and has posted hundreds of how to videos
  11. Out of interest ours just arrived, its missing part H09 the switch panel for the centre consol, it appears that its cutt of sprue H and sprayed silver if you look at the parts layout but its nowhere to be found in any of the parts bags. is yours there and if so where? Already emailed hornby for a replacement and assuming they have the same ethic as airfix, not worried, as it should be here forthwith , tad frustrated though Mark
  12. The real Airwolf was painted in Ford Phantom grey, not east to get hold of but you should be able to have some mixed by a proffesional car paint supplier for around 10 quid
  13. To save you some money, the undercarriage is plenty strong enough ive had mine sat on the stock kit gear since the kit was released, no issues at all
  14. Whats the point of a magazine these days? Used to buy them all very regularly but these days they are mostly full of adds with poor uninteresting articles within when for no cost i can cruise the tinterweb and nail exactly the builds or articles i want that are done to an extremely high quality without ever leaving my armchair or spending more money... Obsolete i think....
  15. started reading this thread then started skipping through it as for every person that liked it, someone else hates it for one reason or another ( obvious 50/50 i guess), one thing did surprise me was the amount of people that seem to take the choice of 1/24 Typhoon as a personal affront , or believe its a huge mistake, anyway, heres my 2 pennorth.... Its superb, 1/24 and a Typhoon are a match made in heaven, having perused the parts and built ups for some time, it is truly truly the best kit i have ever seen and i believe has raised the bar far far above anything else of late, i have just completed a Tamiya Corsair and it was a beautiful kit but has no where near the character and pattina that Airfix have managed to include in the Typhoon. Before anyone points out, im fully aware that the Corsair is 1/32 but theres no reason quilting and such like couldnt have been included in the kit if Tamiya had decided to do so, ( It was done quite well on the fairly recent 1/32 Sabre by kinetic/Italeri, basically i think any other company who releases a new' superkit' that isnt already at an advanced stage of production has their work cut out matching this Quality from Airfix and i bet theres few that will be willing or able too. It will IMHO be a long time untill we see a kit of this quality released again and im pleases that its Airfix that have done it and just totally lucky i guess that its an aircraft i love in a scale i love, i hope they sell bucket loads of them and they sell out as quickly as possible( which im entirley sure they will,) and Airfix go on to lead the way in large scale kits. At £ 90 ish i can see myself buyin 3 or 4
  16. Typhoon is my choice, 1/24 the perfect scale, cant believe my luck
  17. What would be a good realistic scheme to paint an XF5U flying pancake in as if it had actually flown and made it into service for say ten years?? Any suggestions appreciated ... Mark
  18. If it was a kit i would be interested, looks like we might get a kit but will have a year or so to wait as they like to release a built and painted one first aka the Dauntless in 1/18 etc
  19. No chance whatsoever IMHO of a november release date, there would have been test shots around for at least a couple of months and the have only just test 'shot' the Meteor, I wouldnt be surprised if they hadnt even started to cut the tool yet, November 2014 seems more likely
  20. If its a rumour that no one has yet confirmed or denied how can it be said its NOT a lighting or a phantom?? ( although i actaully am not bothered about either) for a rumour this is becoming very specific..... Why wont someone say where the rumour origininates ..?
  21. just built a resin one in 1/24, WAY too big for an injection moulded kit
  22. Assuming this 'rumour' eminated from Airfix, they must have a planned date when the rumoured subjects are in all but one case denied, are we all assuming that this is going to be Telford? has anyone spoken to Airfix to ask if the rumours are true and if so when will they tell us? I would love to know the ground zero point of the rumour if airfix have officially said nothing... and after the Mosquito, i will be queing at the modelshop to buy at least 2 of whatever they are so will be rather gutted if the rumour is unfounded i also would love it to be either.. swordfish gladiator Sea fury meteor And last of all Me 262 ( i think it will be this one but its my least favourite of those on my list)
